1. Crotchduster - Big Fat Box of Shit was pretty entertaining when I was 19-20. Not really sure if it'll hold up (guess I should listen to it again).
2. One of the best descriptions for Lost Horizon I've heard was "if Journey played metal".
3. I actually enjoy a couple of their albums (Rock the Rebel/Metal the Devil and Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood) as they make good background and driving music, though I think their shtick has worn thin with their two latest releases. And it seems like they're constantly on tour, passing through Chicago like twice a year. Fun music, considering they're just a simplistic mashup between Elvis/rockabilly and Metallica-inspired riffs.
4. To be honest, I'd rather not date women more than a couple years younger than me. Most people are just vapid, regardless of age, though it tends to be worse the younger they are. Unfortunately, despite being a rather serious person, my age and appearance (I look pretty young for my age) don't benefit me.
5. Humor seemed to work for Weird Al Yankovic. And it's not like he's a terrible songwriter; even his original songs are decent.
6. Honda used Judas Priest's "The Hellion" in a recent-ish ad campaign for their Odyssey minivan in an attempt to market to male consumers. Granted, at this point, traditional 80s metal may as well be considered "dad rock" to the average person.
7. I know what she's eating. Answer: not much.
8. Just browsed your selection. Don't think I'm grim and kvlt enough for most those albums. :/
9. Hopefully these guys are good live. Gonna catch them this Sunday with Manilla Road. \m/
10. Pig Destroyer thread? Pig Destroyer thread. Hayes is such a brilliant lyricist. His lyrics come off as surreal, postmodern murder ballads and can be wonderful poems on their own. "The tape across your mouth says more than your words ever could" has to be one of my favorite lines of his. And Dio, oh man his lyrics can either be profound or awesomely bad: "Sing me a song, you're a singer" off Heaven and Hell.
11. Dark roasts just ruin the varied nuances and subtle notes in coffees. Light and medium roasts brewed in a french press or pour over, please. Dark Italian roasts exist because peasants only had cheap shitty coffee that had to be overroasted just so they would be palatable. Dunno why Starbucks has a thousand different dark roasts; they all taste the same.
12. This band's been one of my favorite discoveries this year. Definitely one of the best throwback/vintage bands that have come out during this whole movement.
13. I eat the shit out of blue cheese. And I'm supposedly allergic to penicillin. Wonder if I'm still allergic. I should really get a scratch test done one of these days. My mom's told me that I'm allergic to penicillin and sulfa (which is like 80% of all antibiotics) since I had a reaction to them when I was a baby. But I also had food allergies as a kid that I grew out of by the time I was 7-10 years old. Edit: http://blog.onespotallergy.com/2012/01/if-im-allergic-to-penicillin-can-i-eat-blue-cheese-made-with-penicillium-mold/ Yeah this seems like I should try ruling out antibiotic allergies.
14. The Lord Weird Slough Feg - Traveller My favorite rock opera.
15. Went to Costco after work so I picked up a rotisserie chicken for $5 (that'll last me a good 4 days) and had a can of green beans on the side. I've been eating like shit and barely cooking (dining out has been breaking the bank) since my girlfriend and I broke up last winter. Can't be bothered to cook for just one person.
16. Has the term been used much in the past couple years? It seemed it hit full force in metal and hard rock journalism in the second half of the 2000s but I haven't seen it as ubiquitous as it was pre-2010 (probably because I don't read too many magazines and shit).
17. It was good, but I knew after that album that their sound would start to wear thin on me. I dunno if they fell into sophomore doldrums with Conference of the Birds, but I found it to be rather ho-hum. Have their subsequent releases been any better?
18. I enjoyed Vast Oceans Lachrymose for what it is--doomy power metal. It's very schmaltzy and a bit saccharine and the last two tracks completely disposable instruments. They also blew their load on the first track. It sounds like what power metal guys would put on in the background while they're "making love" but for some reason, I enjoy listening to this album on occasion, if only for the guitar tone and the melodramatic vocals.
