  1. I guess the question is really what bands are currently listening to the most at the moment. Well, here is my top 5 bands that is being played on my iPod these days. 1. Children of Bodom 2. In Flames 3. Raunchy 4. Ramones (just got their entire back catalog) 5. Lamb of God
  2. Vulgar Display of Power was not classified as groove metal when it was released, but it is the template that all groove metal bands followed since. Thus I classified it as groove metal. To be honest I am not so good with the genres as I find it as I get older it all just becomes rock'n'roll to me. [emoji1]
  3. Nice to hear about another guy that started out with punk and now is giving metal chance. Anyways, you asked for recommendations on 10 albums that will show a wide variety of metal styles. Since you wrote that you where inspired by Sam Dunn's Metal Evolution, the list I have composed is of 10 albums from different genres that in one way or another has be influential on where Metal is today, so here goes. 1. Black Sabbath - Paranoid (Early Metal) 2. Iron Maiden - The Number of The Beast (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) 3. Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil (Glam Metal) 4. Metallica - Master of Puppets (Thrash Metal) 5. Death - Human (Death Metal) 6. Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky (Black Metal) 7. Faith No More - The Real Thing (Alternative Metal) 8. Mastodon - Leviathan (Prog Metal) 9. Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power (Groove Metal) 10. Korn - Korn (Nu Metal) Please remember there are a lot more genres of metal out there, fell free to ask and I will answer as best I can. I good source for finding bands and albums that are similar is Allmusic. I have used that website to discover a lot of music.
  4. Black Sabbath - Born Again Black Sabbath with Ian Gillian (yep, the guy from Deep Purple) on vocals sounds like it could be awesome. Well, it was not it was almost as grusome as Iron Maiden with Blaze Bayle. Accept - Eat the Heat Accept withorut Udo is just not Accept. Well, the new guy (Mark Tornillo) is actually pretty good, but the clown (David Reece, he is actually decent, but not for Accept) they got on this album was not. Satan's Host - Satanic Grimoire Don't ask me why I have this album, but it is truly aweful. I retain it in my collection, just to remind myself how horrible an album can be.
  5. When I click a quick reply field it becomes white and the letters I type are also white, so I have no idea what I am typing. Where can I change this.
  6. Thrash metal is always good fun. One the more obscure first wave thrash bands that I get a good kick out of is Laaz Rockit. A good starting point for Children of Bodom is Hatecrew Deathroll or Are You Dead Yet? and for a good laugh check out their version of "Oops ... I did it again".
  7. Paul Di'anno over the train wreck that was Blaze Bayley.
  8. I enjoy listening to Motley Crue more than Kiss, both are great live. To those that claim that Kiss had nothing to do with the image of Black Metal, think again. Without Kiss (and Alice Cooper) then there probably would not have been any Venom and without Venom no Darkthrone, Mayhem, Emperor or (especially) Dimmu Borgir. Sometimes you have to think a bit further than just direct influences. If I remember correctly then it was Fenriz from Darkthrone that once said that he like the image of Kiss as they look demonic, until they started singing about girls in bikini.
  9. AC/DC is possibly the best rock band around. They should be mentioned in the same sentence as Led Zeppelin and Rolling Stones, that is how good they are.
  10. Yeah, not only the young ones can use this Internet thing and listen to heavy music at the same time.
  11. Could not find a thread about Danish metal band Illdisposed, so I decided to start one. I find Illdisposed to be a good metal band and I feel they are overlooked by many metal fans. They are one of the few death metal bands that I almost always enjoy. Share your thoughts.
  12. Deep Purple should be up there with Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin as one of the godfathers of metal. Deep Purple while having tracks that are metal still is not what I would consider a metal band, they are a hard rock band.
