I have a real soft spot for Dokken, for one thing, and I own several Tesla CD's, recently I've been listening to an L. A. Gunns CD I bought about a month ago, and love the song Crystal Eyes. I just did glam stuff period, especially T-Rex. I think it's fun, even if it's soft commercial stuff. "What ever happened to fun?"

that is my story and I'm sticking to it. Pretty sure it was coming out of a red Camero but maybe it was a trans am.
 

Here's a painting that I did a couple of years ago as a cover illustration for Vacant Eyes, a funeral doom band from New England. In true funeral doom fashion, the album is finally coming out this year.

Thats awesome I think hammer Dulcimers are also a good fit for some folk metal, I recently got a harp and just experimenting with it.

Paul Di'anno was the original vocalist and recorded the the first two albums before being removed and replaced by Bruce. 

Just heard candlemass's first album following your recommendation. Epicus doomicus metalicus or whatever it's called. Really good album will probably get a sneaky download without telling the wife ?  Absolute classic and more eclectic than was expecting but in a good way but very much doom. Ive heard before metal was defined by tons of subgenres bands were a bit more eclectic in whaat styles they played. Am I way off on this? Also always assumed opeth had this very original sound but seems like they were inspired by the great candlemass as to me certain aspects of sections are similar.

Yo that Bewitched video is so rad, epic, and hilarious it makes me giggle like a little kid.   Plus the singer looks like a metal version of Donkey Lips from Salute Your Shorts.
 

What Cirith Ungal album should I start with?  I missed the mark with certain bands and finding their uniqueness.
 
For ex. I had head Mastadon and seen them but at the time I wasn't for it as I saw it as a hybrid of different genres which I wasn't thrilled about. Now that I have time to devour and appreciate it, it really speaks volumes and talent.
For me I like Dystopia as it covers every aspect of punk/metal. Many bands over haven't explored this option.

Katatonia - For Funerals to Come.

All interviews were carried out with global participants from all over the world via Skype. It was not limited to students and I did not interview anyone who was at my level of education. I was not studying myself in that sense. 
Also thank you for correcting my grammar. It was a typo as I'm well aware of the use of apostrophes. It's usually me who's correcting grammar so this was a refreshing moment! 
Thanks for your well wishes. I'm not used to these forums but I've been told people tend to speak their mind like they're the experts (who have been researching social research methodology and existing literature for some years...) and I can now vouch for that. 
 
 

I think what is missing, and I get it that your not funded, is the element of payola. When anthropologists go looking to study the ways of a culture they often bring stuff like hard candy and machetes. Maybe if you were offering patches and black floss you'd get a better reaction.
Really though, I think the problem is that you are studying yourself. When digesting the reaction to your request check out the post counts on those responding. There is a steady stream of students coming through here looking to do school projects, and they have never, as far as I know, contributed an iota to the forum. Please do deliver your dissertation when it is finished, that would really set you apart.

Hi all, 
Was surprised to see this negative attention for my research but is expected when posting anything online. 
Research into gender and ethnicity proves very crucial in today's climate. By understanding what groups go through we can work to make a more stable and understanding society for all members involved. Just because you think this topic is silly or fun does not mean this research may not help others who are not in your position as subcultures can often been seen as a microcosm for wider society.

Metal music is a passion of mine so naturally I want to hear the voices of those who may be marginalised (or not) in this subculture as a non-white, female fan of metal myself. I wouldn't call this something as extreme as "playing into my own agenda" but see it how you wish. 
Finally, I am not being funded for this. It is through my own volition. It is a part of my degree along with more "school-friendly" modules. 
If you wish to read my dissertation when it is finished, I will come back here and post it when all is finalised.

Hi dudes, I am an old metalhead who listen to metal since 1977, of course like most of the guys in my age I started with KISS but I discovered more and more bands while I was focused on KISS! So well, I am still into Heavy Metal, I prefer all styles from AOR - Thrash but most of all I am into Power / Progressive and US-Metal and here the era from eighties until mid nineties...so I am always welcome for any recommendations! 

It looks to me, and you should know I’m a low grade metal head who relies on impeccable taste as I lack a lot of knowledge about metal, it looks as though your going for a trivial pursuit look and feel. Is that correct? If so might I suggest that is a mistake. You would do better to go the metal jeopardy route.
 If you go trivially here is a card suggestion. 
Q: Which is the greatest band ever?
A: Candlemass!
If you take the Jeopardizing route, and I hope you consider it, than here are some categories that you could explore.

I dreamed last night that I was exploring ancient ruins and playing poker with Mayhem and Darkthrone on some tiny quarantined island in the north Atlantic while "In the Shadow of the Horns" played over and over again and we were all dying from plague. Wtf, brain. ?

1) I assume you are talking about doing this in Massachusetts, so we are not posting about breaking the law. 2) As a disclaimer, hookahs are designed for smoking tobacco, weed produces much more resin and so can clog the hookah. 3) The only time I saw people smoking weed out of a hookah they didn't use any shisha at all, just put the weed in the bowl and lit it with a lighter while sucking on the hose. If you're mixing weed and shisha , I would go with much more weed than shisha, the shisha would just act as a flavoring agent but the smoke you would want to be more psychoactive. Just a guess.
