Yeah, Cody has mentioned a bit of this to me. It sucks a lot. It's definitely not like that for me, my wife is pretty cool with me playing music and theoretically going to shows. There's just no time or money for me to go the distance I'd have to go right now. The best shows up this way actually come through Montreal. The bassist I've been playing with up here just went to Messe des Morts recently. European bands that don't come to the states because it's such a hassle will still go through there. One day in a kinder future after we get our shit together.

If only I had plans to see any live music.

The newest one is Mass Cathexis 2. Really good. Best on headphones for me, following their guitar parts is an immersive experience. Their last several albums have been hit or miss, some of them needed more time in the oven. NP: Raphael Weinroth-Browne - Worlds Within ...layers and layers of cello. Just cello, with effects. Some cool guitar parts, boring songwriting, annoying vocals. I couldn't listen to a whole album that sounded like this.

Heimdal was a grower for me. Had to reserve judgement for a few listens and take it on some walks in the woods. I really like it now. I haven't heard the new Isole but I didn't really connect with any of their albums aside from Bliss Of Solitude. You might dig that one if you haven't heard it. It's weird because it does all the things and it seems like it should work, but I just felt kinda meh about it and didn't even make it to the end.

You might like their album Некрофилия more, but it's all along the same lines. Sad rock/post black metal with anguished Russian vocals. I like this band a lot. Thankfully no goddamn clean vocals. https://kulturakureniya.bandcamp.com/album/-
