Deafheaven - New Bermuda
My favourite from last year. Blows Sunbather out of the water, imo.

Fucking slackers, prodigal sons, and disloyal ne'er-do-wells are always welcome here.
Things have been a bit quiet around the forum. We're moving to Massachusetts in a week, lots of packing and work of various kinds to get done. I was up too late drinking with a friend last night, and will probably do the same this evening. Nice to see you back around.
I do feel a great sense of shame that it's taken me so long to return!
Glad to see the place is still running. Do most of the regular 'crew' still post in here? Best of luck with the move! Are you looking forward to it, or is it a bit of a mixed feeling? I moved out for the first time at the end of the last year, and it took a lot of getting used to!

Just finishing:
Pixies - Doolittle
About to start:
Weezer - Pinkerton
Was worried this thread was getting a bit too credible in my absence.

Cheers, Natassja7. How's the forum doing these days?

Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible
Not metal, but definitely a dark, intense, aggressive record and clearly a modern classic of popular music.

Well, after over a year's absence due to the site being down on-and-off and the craziness that was my first year at university, I finally decided to pop back here again.
How you all doin'?

Yeah, Pecan Tree is definitely a stand-out. I love the final movement/build up that starts half way through the track. One of the moments that remind me most of GYBE!, which is defo not a bad thing. I think it's mostly the vocals I'm still on the fence about; at first they seemed pretty flimsy and one-dimensional, but I'm growing to like them more as I get more to grips with the music. Oddly enough, the record sorta remind me of Deftones at times, with the overall vibe/mood they seem to be going for. Intriguing album I'll defo be returning to. Would recommend you listen again as it seems quite the grower. NP: Fugazi - RepeaterI need to listen to this album again, I don't own this but heard it at a friends house, I seem to remember liking The Pecan Tree, I think it was called. NP. Leviathan - Dawn Vibration -
I thought this thread was sorely lacking some petulant asshole enquiring as to why there isn't a thread titled 'most talented men in metal'. But fear not; here I am.

Deafheaven - Sunbather About my 7th listen through and I keep flitting between like, dislike and indifference; not always at the same parts of the album, either. Not sure what to make of this one yet, but I guess I would've already given up on it if I hated it. I'd be interested to know people here's thoughts on the record, if you've listened to it?

That's pretty high on my to-read list. Cheers for the reminder! ^.^Just starting on Owen Jones "The Establishment - And How They Get Away With It" All the things that make me angry, emotional and pissed off generally about how the UK as a machine functions is explained here perfectly. -
It would if he listened to each album we mentioned. Just sayin'...I suppose that'll never work out... NP: Sentenced - North From Here -
I'd be totally up for that, under the condition that BAN has to comment on each post. You and Mindy should start a pop forum. BAN should still moderate, though, it would be hilarious. NP: Black Harvest - Solace Demo track recording went well, better then I'd hoped. Got two brand new ones finished! -
Had a pretty non-metal day today. The last few have been: Mogwai - The Hawk is Howling mewithoutYou - Brother, Sister The National - Trouble Will Find Me Now: Brand New - The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me Pretty sure this is some of the best pop-infused rock music I've heard.

Alrighty, then! I also often have a few drinks at gigs, but I think I need to keep my senses as sharp as possible for this one. Gonna be immense!Earplugs? Absolutely. No question. -
Watching Gira is always a treat' date=' and his lineup is fantastic. Enjoy yourself! Get a good spot![/quote'] Well, it's a standing concert, so I hope that doesn't preclude me from getting a decent view! Would you recommend earplugs? I've always thought that wearing earplugs at a loud concert is kind of a sacrilege, but I've heard even hardened Swans fans say they're a necessity. What's your take on that?
-
Last few: Swans - Cop/Young God Swans - Swans Are Dead (live album) Now: Swans - To Be Kind Mentally preparing myself for seeing these guys tomorrow night in Bristol! To say I'm buzzing would be quite an understatement. Feel a little trepidation as well...
-
Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind This is still probably the scariest, most emotionally draining album I've ever listened to.
-
Opeth - Blackwater Park
-
Mogwai - Rave Tapes I like the electronic vibe to this, and it's quite understated and minimalistic. It's grown on me a fair bit over these months, but it still doesn't quite stand up to their best records imo.
-
Tool - Lateralus
-
The Chariot - Everything is Alive... Gnarly as fuck.
-
The Dillinger Escape Plan - One of Us is the Killer
-
Machine Head - Burn My Eyes A groove metal kind of afternoon, me thinks.
-
Both work for me. NP: Pantera - The Great Southern Trendkill Phil's more brutal vocals on this thing are fucking awesome. Everything I want from a mainstream metal record - total adrenaline rush! It's also a hilarious description of an orgy or a sausage shop.
