  1. Misotheist - Vessels by Which The Devil is Made Flesh (2024) - Norwegian BM that reminds me of the Icelandic sound of a Svartidauði or Sinmara which is never a bad thing.

Exhorder - Mourn the Southern Skies (2019) - Since I listened to their latest offering and quite enjoyed it, I back tracked to this one and find it much better in all honesty. Pat O'Brien is not a patch on Vinnie Labella or Marzi Montazeri as a lead guitarist and the rest of the band seem to pick up rhythm guitar unlike on MtSS making this 2019 offering superior in riffing as well as lead work.

Orchid - The Mouths of Madness (2013) - I get it guys, you like Black Sabbath, almost to the point of plagarism.  However, there's still entertainment here and that vocalist is a perfect fit so it's all good.

Had the same thought. Album lost steam about halfway through. Still a solid effort for a bunch of geezers.

Hugely top heavy album.  Never gets to being terrible tracks but definitely a lot of not necessary tracks.

  3. Exhorder - Defectum Omnium (2024)

This and the new Priest have taken over my listening this week.  Accepting that neither are flawless, they both do still possess a great amount of appeal and it is rare for me to engage so much with new music over such a consistent number of days.  I only just clocked that Pat O'Brien of Cannibal Corpse fame is in Exhorder now.  Dude owns a flamethrower which is remarkabl considering his alcohol and drink challenges.

  4. Exhorder - Defectum Omnium (2024)

Inconsistent but never terrible, more disappointing when some of the good ideas are never fully realised or get ruined by some of the sub-par moments.  Lead work is some of the worst I have heard in a while though.  Poorly developed and largely directionless in sound.  Saved by the weight of the riffs though and a solid shift done on the drum stool.   How many halfway decent groove metal albums do you get in a year nowadays?  How many did we ever get in fact?  Would listen to again but doubt I would buy.
