  1. Thrash hasnt really offered much for me the lat 20 years but if there are a few select modern day thrash bands that i think are worthy to check it would be Havok, Vektor, Legion of the Damned, Warbringer, and Skeletonwitch. Outside of that i just rely on the classic thrash bands of yore to get my fix.
  2. Yea, that MA record was really bad. Thank god they didnt play a lot of that material at MDF last year. lol
  3. My only two cents on this is unless a member is breaking the rules regarding forum etiquette on here than they should be able to express themselves on how they feel about a band either good or bad. The way i look at it is as long as its not being directed at the actual poster than the band should be free game for criticism. Having opinions doesnt mean you should only state good things about a band. I would like to think this forum is like some others and allows the freedom for one to express themselves without getting some kind of lecture just because they dont like or respect a certain band. Plainly put, if Blut thinks that Slipknot is a crappy and garbage band he should have the freedom to do so without someone trying to tell him he shouldnt. If he is breaking some sort of forum rule than maybe a mod or admin can speak to him on that but i highly doubt thats the case here. We all have favorite bands or artists and not everyone is going to like them and sometimes people even insult them. But, dont take it personally as it doesnt effect you one way or the other. Ive seen people trash Devin Townsend before but it doesnt mean im going to stop listening to him or appreciating his work because of it. Just sounds like some of you guys need a bit of thicker skin.
  4. Not really sure what your driving at here. Are we talking vocal influence or actual style (such as rough and clean vocal mixtures?). Early on in Fear Factory's career i always loved Burton Bell's usage of clean and rough vocals. But im not sure if that is the kind of thing you are talking about here.
  5. Ive always considered AIC alternative grunge/hard rock.
  6. Personally, i dont really care if someone wants to label them hard rock. Im not a fan at all of the band so if i had to truly label it i would label it "garbage". I think i rated an album of theirs in 2010 as a 0/10 and thats the only time thats ever happened in my album ratings. Either way, again they have similiar musical arrangements/style to other nu-metal acts for me. To me they are not much different than BFMV, Atreyu, etc. The list could go on and on. In the grand scheme of things it really doesnt matter what people want to list a lot of these bands as. I just dont listen to them often enough to care i guess. lol
  7. Not for me, when i listen to the first 3 albums (especially the first) they have a lot of the signature breakdowns that most nu-metal bands use. But, like i said people will view it differently than others.
  8. 1. Bieber - Certainly not. 2. Slipknot 3. Korn 4. P.O.D. 5. Avenged Sevenfold - Yes (Part of the nu-metal genre) 6. Linkin Park - Outside of a couple songs on the first album not really. Lou pretty much nailed it as more rock oriented. 7. System of a Down 8. Godsmack 9. Disturbed - Again, more nu-metal but yes part of the genre. 10. Rob Zombie- Horror rock/metal (for me i just throw him in with the rest of the nu-metal bands) 11. Rammstein - Industrial rock/metal As Blut pointed out, its all subjective. I know i used to frequent the metal archives forum and browse through their catalog of bands and they classify some bands as metal that arent (Rush) and others that i felt that should be but are not. Its all just upon one's interpretation.
  9. There is a couple of female oriented gothic/symphonic bands i like. Leave's Eye's, Lacuna Coil, and Factory of Dreams.
  10. Cant really argue with whats been said already. There is plenty of great bands/albums throughout the last 40 years. Really no golden age for me, just some very good innovators and epic albums but some bands today are carving their own path in those categories.
  11. Hmmm, tough one but ill give it a go. 5. Testament- The Ballad 4. Pantera- Suicide Note Pt 1 3. Devin Townsend- The Death of Music 2. Fear Factory- A Therapy for Pain 1. Laaz Rockit- The Omen Im sure there is a slew more but those right off the top of my head.
  12. I enjoy a few tracks from their earlier material, stuff off of "Soulside Journey" and "Transilvanian Hunger" but i could never get into an entire album like i do with the new one. I guess i feel they have progressed more as musicians and the thrashier stuff appeals to me more for some reason. Kind of like Burzum as well, i tend to prefer the more ambient material rather than the straight BM stuff.
  13. Not too bad, i would give it a 7/10. Here is Voices, featuring former members of Akercocke. 277BndsA-Ao Oh and good call on Terra Tenebrosa Satan, i gave them a pretty good rating on my blog a few weeks back. \m/
  14. Exactly. I often have to point out too people who seem to try and discredit nu-metal from the genre that back in 94' before they became well known there is footage of them at the Milwaukee Metalfest and the minute they kicked into "Blind" the entire crowd (which was very large and all metalheads) were moshing and jumping up and down. So, before they hit it mainstream they were VERY accepted by the metal masses. The funny thing is i find that more metal musicians/bands are less concerned about nu-metal or other styles of music than the fans are. I remember seeing the Tattoo the Earth festival in 2000 and although im not a Slipknot fan they were the headliners over Slayer. So i basically watched Slayer and then went to the car while a couple of my friends stayed behind to watch Knot. At first i didnt understand why Slayer wasnt the headliner and then someone told me that the guys from Slayer were Slipknot fans and they were alternating headlining on that tour. And i know guys like Alexi Laiho from COB is a glam rock fan (which i do enjoy many 80's hair rock bands from my era) so again i just find that the fans have a bigger problem with the new generation of metal acts than the actual bands do who have been around for a while. While i personally love my share of BM i cant stand Mayhem at all, just cant get into them. And if i was asked what i wanted to listen too between Korn or Mayhem i would take Korn everyday of the week. Shit, i would actually listen to Limp Bizkit over Mayhem if i had to be honest. At the end of the day the fact that i like nu-metal does not mean i consider it the cream of the crop in the metal genre. I still prefer listening to more extreme metal bands over the nu-metal genre but do have a soft spot for it. Ive learned over the years that ive grown to like many different types of music (except for country) and that you cant always please everyone which i find out on my radio shows but it is what it is and i like what i like. At the end of the day if you simply dont like something dont listen to it. Its really that simple. There are a slew of bands i cant stand both in nu-metal and the rest of the metal genre and i just dont listen to them. If other people do than let them knock themselves out.
  15. Indeed we do. Thank you very much.
  16. I listen to a little bit of everything including some nu-metal. And no, i dont care what anyone thinks about it. When it comes to metal in general there are some good bands and some bad ones, just depends on one's tastes.
  17. One of my favorite DM acts. Good call.
  18. Never been a huge Darkthrone fan but i did indeed like the new one as opposed to their older stuff. I definitely got the Venom/Celtic Frost vibe that your talking about and i like it. For me, its the best stuff they have ever done but im sure different people will see it differently themselves.
  19. For me, Devin Townsend/SYL. He does it all in my opinion and is so versatile as an artist.
  20. Solid album for sure and a great song to boot. 8/10 DZvuMpYv_iQ
  21. Hello all, Just a quick blurb about myself. Im a longtime metal fan (will be 43 in 2 weeks) and currently reside in Baltimore, MD USA.
