I would NEVER badmouth Skepticism. Funeral doom is my favourite kind of doom and Skepticism's slightly creep atmospheric variant is spectacular.
 
I only know of Anata thanks to FatherAlabaster so really all thanks should go to him.
 
 

Wouldn't that phrase be much more applicable to Funeral Doom though? Sludge isn't always crazy slow. Certainly it's more then 30bpm like Skepticism and Thergothen (both bands I love).
 
Perhaps there are some similarities, I'd say there are plenty of differences as well. Anata are a bit more tech-death but fuck those melodies are catchy. Great now I have to spin that album again...

just wondering if anyone here is interested in anime and manga, and if so which ones, bear in mind I'm not talking about the little kid crap here by the way personally I don't like most of what I've read or seen, at this point it's pretty much only Death Note and trinity Blood, also when I'm watching it I hate watching anything that has english subtitles, I prefer the dubbed versions unless the voice work sucks then I can put up with the subtitles

I think it was from Miasma. The vocals are pure deathcore mate and the melodic approach is too. Just hammering out a couple of chords making a melody doesn't make you melodeath. Nor do influences bear any significance on your genre. Mayhem were influenced by Venom, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, and Bathory yet their black metal sound is nothing like those bands.

As I said in the intro thread of yours influence doesn't inform genre and the confusion of genre is not strictly reserved for casual fans. For example Metallum does list Venom as a heavy metal band primarily and not a black metal band primarily. Calling yourself something does not make you that thing. I.e bands calling themselves battle metal are not because it isn't a thing. Anyway this is stemming into an entirely different conversation.

If we're going for originators then Death and Black metal lists are kind of wrong. Possessed are missing from death metal and ought to sit in place of Carcass (ps grindcore/goregrind until Heartwork just sayin'. I am a genre nazi). Also Venom, Mercyful Fate, Bathory, and Celtic Frost would be the forerunners of black metal.
 
Now then MY area of expertise. The big 4 of doom metal would be: Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Pentagram, and Trouble. At least if we want originators.

Had to check for a second to make sure I was thinking of the right band. Yes, I was, TBDM are deathcore/melodic deathcore as best I can tell. Really not much tying them to melodic death metal in my opinion. Melodeath is more like early Arch Enemy, early Dark Tranquillity, early At The Gates, Enforsaken etc. A case could be made for Anata as well at a stretch.
 
I do apologise if it seems like I'm coming down hard on a band you dig. No issue with you liking them or anything I'm just kind of venting.

So many people mess up which movie this is actually from.

Either way fair first two gigs. Not like mine, we won't even go into those. Sufficed to say I was not exactly thrilled to be dragged along. It wasn't until my third gig, AC/DC, that I actually attended something I wanted to.

So black tie event tonight was boring as bat shit, and I missed the win on a silent auction item by three dollars so that sucked. Then when I got home my arsehole brother decided to wind up my dog to the point I had to take him for an hour walk at later then 10pm. So yeah guess what now I'm wide awake. To say I'm in a foul mood would be an understatement.
 
Quite literally one positive to come from today. I'm locked in for the showcase my guitar place are putting on next month. I will be playing 'Starbreaker' by Judas Priest.

So we now have a swarm of bees hanging around the backyard. The result of yesterday's gardening efforts. It took all day but the weeding is done, fresh soil layed, roses pruned, and space has been made for the tomato and chilli plants we're planting.. Also a crap ton of herbs - oregano, mint, basil, chives, parsley, and coriander.
