That’s interesting, and while I do agree that discovering an album years if not decades, after it was originally recorded, doesn’t give you the same feeling as being there in the moment it doesn’t stop me from being struck by some Albums that I’ve found after the fact. Actually, mine could be a somewhat unique case as my metal journey essentially started with the 70s and 80s, hard rock or traditional metal bands uncovering  thrash several he is later, then stumbling onto the extreme metal side of things further down the line. And even then I started with the early death and black metal scenes before progressing into the 90s, and beyond, almost like I started at the beginning of the heavy music timeline and progressed through in a linear fashion.

Well I guess it’s time I give my two cents as well: Dreamweaver get my vote purely for the melody line in Clerical Conspiracy which always makes me think of the John Williams, Star Wars score for some reason. Apart from that, I find both albums interchangeable, I would probably listen to the Japanese Sabbat more often. Re Dark Angel I think darkness descends is probably the best work, time does not heal a close, second, but I never liked leave scars at all.

well it would seem that PC issues are doing the rounds here at MF. Currently, I’m unable to open any of my documents, bootup, word, or any other Microsoft programs, just getting a default, the program loaded incorrectly message. Bearing in mind, the computer is barely six months old, and I have a lifetime product, key. I know it isn’t the license for office suite expiring, that’s about all I know.

Ultimately it’s done with, we’ve all voiced our thoughts on the Dead matter, truthfully, I don’t see much benefit in continuing that particular conversation, flogging a dead horse as it were.

I remember the days when I had similar feelings about my favourite bands, they could do no wrong, and everything they released was flawless. Time passes and tastes change, I’m sure 16 year old me would be horrified hearing that I would one day all but stop listening to Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, 25 year old would be just as stunned to learn. I would eventually do it same with Devin Townsend and Dark Tranquillity. I guess my point being that sometimes the bands we love the most, and also be the ones we are most critical of in years to come.

Actually come to think of it. I don’t think there is a single band I listen to, with caveats for those who only ever released, one or two albums, who is discography I could say is flawless.  Death probably, closest, but I think the vocals on Symbolic week, and parts of both human and individual thought patterns tend to drag. Bathory have eight truly excellent albums in my opinion, but the other three, is it three, I forget sometimes, anyway, there, other albums are so bad they are virtually unlistenable, and while I adore Inquisition my personal view is the peak was Dismal Orations with each album, they released since being slightly weaker than the one which proceeded it

That Sinister album is great, killer DM. Re Possessed I think seven churches is a pretty great album, but I can’t say I enjoy any of their other work that much.

That would be Afterbirth, Fossilization, and Verminous Serpent, in a rarity for me I didn’t even enjoy the new releases from Ahab or Mournful Congregation enough to purchase

RelentlessOblivion given a Damn from Thatguy in How it is to quit from metal?
I know I’m going to regret this but… dude I think you need help. I understand that life can, at times, be a real drag. It can be monotonous and boring, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing more to life than that. It’s not healthy or accurate, to insist that becoming an adult requires the death of all excitement and joy.

as far as not finding modern metal to be at all exciting? I’m not as dedicated to tracking new releases as GG, Surj, and co but even I can think of three bands off the top of my head that dropped killer stuff last year. Even if you’re not interested in tracking down modern metal, there’s troves of bands from the 80s and 90s, just waiting to be discovered in the cavernous depths of the Internet. Anyway, that’s really all I’ve got to say so I’ll close with this: in life and metal you only get out of it what you put in.

Welcome to late stage capitalism my friend, you provide a market, we’ll mass produce the product as long as it’s profitable. Metal isn’t immune to corporate greed. Goes back to my original point really, we cynical few who actively seek out metal, who see kinship in strangers on an internet forum, who desperately cling to the rocks of Absu and Horna lest we drown in an ocean of trivium, are the outsiders.

Side note it’s hard thinking of band names which sound suitably like rocks when ripping off the cuff like that.

I feel like exactly that sentiment sums up metal, at most other outsider sub cultures. If you don’t get it, you never will, I wonder how many teenagers said exactly those words to their parents when the first discovering metal, or rap in the early 90s, before it became a commercial product, or to a lesser extent, wrestling, UFC, video games, D&D etc
