Ozzy-Shot In The Dark Blue Oyster Cult-Astronomy from Some Enchanted Evening. I'll go and check my collection and report back with some more up-to-date ones...

Ponces that look like girls; girls that look like ponces; stupid big fringes and trousers that hang just on their skinny fuckin hips. And of course eyeliner. Fuckin masses of it. Trying to look like the 'dissafected youth'. And everything's 'like, cool' And they all listen to the fuckin worst music in the world. Yes, worse than reggae. Bands full of whiny fuckin Yanks from affluent backgrounds, all wearing those oh-so-geeky glasses. With the fake growling and the whiny fuckin choruses. Oh, and surrounded by beautiful teenage babes, naturally. I could procure a train (big fucker-9 carriages). Hold a huge sign up saying 'Free Hugs Express-stopping at all stations to Huggsville' and when the cunts got on it, lock the doors and pull the blinds on the windows down. Then we let the Monkey and his little friend the squirrel on and close the doors.... All aboard!!!!

Hamsters could take bites out of the victims and store the body tissue in their cheeks, regurgitating it later to freak them out even further. Terepins can give a very nasty nip. Ideal for soft body parts like scrotums and knob-heads. And ferrets are vicious wee swines that stink of piss.

SC is our enemy: we know it, he knows it. Blink 182 claim to be 'one of us' i.e. a serious rock band. They're not. They're pricks. I think Blink are far more dangerous than Simon Cowell. Give the Monkey some Viagra and let him do his worst. And Simon Cowell can sit in the corner watching with his cock in his hand....

Easy Livin' by Uriah Heep is a fantastic place to start, by the way (Incidentally, the only time I saw them was at Ayr Pavilion in 1981 and they were supported by Samson, with Bruce Dickinson on vocals). Liked Strapping Young Lad, but haven't heard much of his solo stuff, but got 2 CDs when I subscribed to Terrorizer magazine; Deconstruction and Ghost. Now, Terrorizer (amongst others) have been banging the 'Townsend is a genius' drum for a while now, but I have to say that, whilst not expecting SYL Mk.II I was very disapointed in both. Ghost especially is the biggest bag of shite in the history of big bags of shite. Have I just been dealt a crap hand, or should I check out the other Devin CDs?

I do feel that finding the first ever metal band is a bit like finding God-you think you've found something real, but it'll soon turn out to be false. Sabbath definitely had a unique sound for the time, and it is difficult to find another band at that time who fit the pure 'metal' tag that you talk of. But the whole 'what is heavy metal' debate is one which doesn't have a straight answer. Sabbath themselves (Ozzy particularly) always said they were a rock n roll band, as did Priest and, well, basically all bands at that time. Not many have openly embraced the term over the years (though some individuals, notably Halford, have recently). Another very important band who influenced most of the 'heavy' scene were, of course, MC5. Another indicator that the whole 'heavy' or 'metal' genre has been a vastly complicated evolution, rather than the revolution that some would have you believe. Keep your thoughts coming-I'm really enjoying this discussion.

Re: Lemmy Watched the Lemmy movie at the weekend (don't know why it took me so long to buy it) and it was a bit dissapointing! Not the great man, obviously, but there was too much Metallica, Dave Grohl, Scott Ian etc. So much more to explore of the great man, but I felt there was too many interviews with other people.
