  1. I should probably change my username, out of respect Like the idea. The words that popped into my mind are more of guitarist terms, like: Face Melter, Shredder, Axe Grinder. Probably should be more broader terms though. On the list, the only one that stuck out a little is 'Jedi Metal Head'. Nothing against Star Wars, just seemed a little out of place upon first glance. Don't think I've seen a metal/Star Wars crossover before... Maybe there should be! Well, there is that Chewbacca song in Clerks. That's quite grungy.
  2. I used to listen to bands like Deftones, Korn, System of a Down much more when I was younger. Nowadays their music isn't so appealing. Always felt like there's something lacking. Forgettable. System of a Down were a better fit for the group of musicians it contained. Serj's voice has begun to be quite irritating in his solo material, whereas there's more of a solid connection when singing with System. The other day, after not listening to them in such a long time, I just wanted to listen to their up front style tunes like Chic n' Stu and I thought it was brilliant. Heavy, catchy, aggressive. That's what I like about them, though not a band that I want to listen to often.
  3. Listening to metal music in the car is always good. Turn up the volume, shout, scream and sing along with it without caring what others think... although other drivers and people on the street must be thinking there's a bee in the car or something with all the weird faces I pull.
  4. Many thanks. Don't see the dance taking the metal world by storm though... not yet anyway.
  5. Think of your sequencer as your main host program. This is what you'll be using for recording your audio tracks, programming midi, bouncing down tracks etc... Popular ones are Cubase, Pro Tools, Logic, however, they can be quite expensive. Yet, really indispensable if you plan on loading up vst/rsta instruments (sample work for drums, keys... and sound plugins for eq, compression, reverb...) With the sequencer in place, then it'll be pretty straight forward for recording your guitars/vocals with a sound card, even bass via direct line in (Hz input). If you plan on programming drums, simple straight forward vst plugins to use include the Toontrack Ez Drummer series. Go to their site and you'll find different kits, with audio samples, to help you find and tailor the sound you want out of your music. Seeing as your on a budget, I'd recommend recording the guitars live rather than paying out for software like Guitar Rig or Amplitube. Though, one of the best guitar amp plugins I've heard is Peavey Revalver MK III. For the sequencer, I've heard a lot about 'Reaper' over the years and it has evolved into something more powerful and diverse. It's far cheaper than other sequencers. I'd give that a look. Merely some starting tips, but worth some consideration.
  6. Happy Holidays everyone. Here's a fun mash-up I edited on Christmas day that I'd like to share. It was inspired by wondering if thrash metal music would work with the Charleston Dance, after I watched 'It's a Wonderful Life'. jBMZjkQy_z4
  7. Re: Spider chord guitar riffage. Back once again with another new upload to YouTube. It's a work in progress, which I hope to record a full demo in the near future. If you have a spare moment, please have a listen. Feedback welcome in both playing and structure of the song. The video and audio quality is a little poor as it was originally intended to be sent via email. Thanks for listening 6dQnESvYk74
  8. Re: Effects Pedals Definitely check out the HT-Dual. Have a listen to hear its range and if you think that will give you the tones you're looking for. Should be able to do anything from early Metallica, Iron Maiden, and hard rock/bluesy type music (heard a guy getting a decent Extreme/Nuno sound from it)... heavier thrash you may need more gain.
  9. Re: SEPULTURA Been a fan of Sepultura for a long time. Arise is an intense album. Loved Chaos A.D and Roots. The albums after that I couldn't quite get into. There'd be only some tracks on the album that stuck out but as a whole something felt lacking. Their previous two efforts, A-Lex and Kairos were more impressive. It's more inkeeping with an upfront sound, with raw, passionate energy. Never been to see them live, though I did watch their live in Sao Paulo dvd which is one of my favourite live dvd's. Here's a link to the full concert to give you an idea of how good they can be. Plus Derrick has good presence for a front man. Skip to 4:47 when the music will kick in. DYmpz5lNHq8
  10. Re: Greetings Cheers Iceni and Murph1990. Yeah, I'm open minded and willing to hear recommendations. It's a bit sad when I'm awaiting new albums from my favourite bands, which end up only getting a handful of albums a year, rather than actively checking out new bands to listen to. Looking forward to a new albums by Fear Factory, Soulfly and Metallica (hopefully) this year. Definitely check out Angel Witch. Thanks for the suggestion
  11. Re: Effects Pedals If you're looking for a versatile pedal for both rhythm and lead work, the HT Dual pedal can do most rock-moderate metal music. It's tube based, to gives it a nice warm sound. If you want to go heavier and need extra gain, I'd recommend the HT Blackfire (no, I don't work for Blackstar ). TC Electronics are really good too. If you're looking for multiple effects then check out their Nova System. Talking top line sounds, which would probably cost around £100 each if you were to buy seperate effects pedals. If you're will to spend a bit more, then maybe the G-System will be an option. If you have a decent computer, and just looking to record, I'd say that amp simulation plugins have come a long way. Just need to learn more about how to mix guitars into the music so they stand out and not be lost in the mix.
  12. Re: Greetings Will do! Cheers bud.
  13. Good day all. Would like to share a video that I did some time back. It's basic, playing my Ibanez RG470 along to a loop from Toontrack's Drumkit From Hell EZX. A tune that I've been working on for years, and learning to play staccato-esque powerchords in a different style... till the other day that I found out that it's been done before and are called spider chords! The playthrough isn't perfect, though it's just to let you hear the idea for style of playing and a vibe for the tune. You may be able to tell that Fear Factory is quite an influence here If you enjoy, please subscribe to my channel, as I'll be uploading more videos in the near future. Cheers! Ray 1Pjiv2mQvEY
  14. Re: Albums you wish you could unhear. I'm pretty sure I wish I could unhear a Clawfinger album that I got... yeah, been so long I never even remembered the name of the album, or listened to all the songs.
  15. Re: Who are your current top 5 bands? Devildriver Fear Factory Mad Capsule Markets (even though they are not on the go at the moment) Sepultura Filter
  16. Good day everyone. My name is Ray, and I'm a film-maker/musician based in Scotland. Joined the forum to encounter like-minded people, share some ideas and music! My favourite bands include: Metallica, Nirvana, Sepultura, Nine Inch Nails, Faith No More, Soundgarden, The Prodigy, Pantera, Fear Factory etc... I guess mostly the pretty popular bands, none too obscure. Hope all is well. Cheers, Ray
