  15. Re: New thrash acts? I agree that bands have pushed every physical aspect of the genre to the extreme, and I don't expect anything massively innovative to come out and turn thrash on its head anytime soon. I think it will be bands who go for a slightly different, niche sound of their own and ones who focus on unorthodox styles of riffing/playing will set themselves apart and help keep the genre fresh.

    Dimmu Borgir!

Re: Dimmu Borgir! "Death Cult Armageddon" and "In Sorte Diaboli" are their 2 best albums in my opinion. Hiring Galder was the best thing Dimmu ever did. For the last week I've been cranking Old Man's Child's "Slaves of the World" like crazy and it's really starting to grow on me.
  17. (Hate to make a double thread for this. I created one in the Events/Promotion section but this seems to be the right forum for self-promotion.) HAIDUK is a death metal solo project with melodic and black metal elements. The 1st demo CD: "Plagueswept" was released in 2010 and is available for $10/CD. (free shipping internationally). Also available digitally on iTunes and Amazon.com. Sample tracks, reviews, and CD is available at: http://www.haiduk.ca Check it out, comments and feedback are welcome! Keep your eyes open for the Haiduk full-length debut set for release in 2012! \m/
  18. Re: New thrash acts? I think the evolution of thrash will be similar to that of dm, with bands generally getting heavier and more technical, sharpening and modernizing their sound/production while playing the fastest riffs imaginable but still retaining the groove and headbanging-ness that makes thrash. I can't really cite any examples but that's at least the direction that I'm taking for the album I'm working on..... I believe there is still lots that can be done with thrash in terms of ingenuity without having to stray too much from the original style. Thrash is my favorite style of metal and I will always enjoy it as long as it's fast, energetic, unique, and well-executed. But there will always be newer bands who choose to keep playing the same retro/oldschool style of thrash and I personally have no interest in that....
  19. Re: Best live show? I just caugh Decapitated when they rolled through town a few weeks ago. It was one of the best dm shows I've ever seen, as was Decrepit Birth who opened up for them. So cool to see them nail such technical stuff live.
