  1. As far as I know, tours called "The Big Four of Thrash" came later, "The Big Four" was a marketing term indicating that they were the best selling artists in the genre. The post was pretty convoluted and confusing in general though, especially ending a discussion of "The Big Four" by indicating that they were his/her three favorite thrash bands of the era... 2. Sorry bro, but she's hot! Also, she owes me $50, so I can't just stop hanging out with her if I don't get it... Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk
  3. Even with songs like "Judy is a Punk" and "Sheena is a Punk Rocker", nobody considered them punk rock? Seems unlikely. I'm not the most knowledgeable about punk, but I know that Ramones wasn't the only band stateside that was making punk rock waves. Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk
  4. Stranger things have happened. We might like your music too, if we knew anything about it... Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk
  5. Yep, born and raised in SLC. I would welcome anyone to visit, but I don't know why anyone would be motivated to do so. Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk That, plus our ever increasing Mexican population seems to be the key. Mexican food is flavorful, easy enough to make, and pretty inexpensive, so I don't see why it wouldn't assimilate into our diets with the cultural proximity. I have a slight preference toward South American food, but Mexican food is awesome, one of the few styles of food I could eat every day. Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk
  6. I've long heard the name Mysticum, but I still have yet to hear them. Windir is great (if a tiny bit overrated due to the grim and "metal" fashion in which Valfar died), but they're more of a Viking metal band than a black metal band, so I don't tend to think of them in a black metal context. 7. Paradise Lost - Paradise Lost I remember buying this shortly after it was released because I was told (by a source I would later find to be quite unreliable) that it was their return to metal. I haven't listened to it since then, and I don't think I'll be hearing it again in the future, as it's on its way to the recycle bin. There were maybe 2 songs here that sounded the slightest bit like Paradise Lost, the rest was really awful alternative radio hard rock that nobody in the metal community would listen to if it was released by a different band. This is for fans of Three Days Grace,Trapt, and A Perfect Circle, not fans of Draconian Times and Icon. Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk
  8. It's weird to hear Peter Dolving in this context, but it doesn't sound like thrash. It's kind of got a punk/alternative/grunge thing going on, almost like Faith No More without Mike Patton's wackiness. I can't say that I enjoyed it. Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk
  9. ...can anyone make sense of this? Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk
  10. I would say personality as well. Music fulfills it's purpose when people pour themselves into it and use it as a vehicle for self-expression, which is something that's hard to do when you're showing off. As FA said, becoming a better player should be about filling your toolbox so that you're writing and expression can become more diverse, but when you set out to make something to push your limits, it's hard to fit some soul in there. Technicality and soul can and will continue to coexist, but only with artists who don't lose sight of being expressive as they teat through something difficult to play. 11. Not really. In the Woods... was fairly progressive, but I don't ever remember them getting into weird avant-garde territory. The Third and the Mortal might have gone that way after they moved away from metal, but I wouldn't know because I haven't heard those recordings. Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk
  12. It hasn't quite been 15 years since I first found them, but yes, the website is exactly the same as it used to be. They're good at what they do, and the dude that runs the label seems pretty cool. You could even purchase my album there if you were so inclined. The shipping is free, at least within the US. Not sure about international... Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk

  14. That could have easily been a Hannibal Lector "I'm having a friend for dinner" type of comment. I'm only about 700 miles from Phoenix, but I hate the heat, so I tend to avoid the desert. I have family in Las Vegas though, so I end up in the desert heat more than I would like... Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk
  15. It's been a while since I've had good barbecue. When it's done right, it's hard to beat. We have a couple of good places here in town, but ever since my wife had her gallbladder removed, she's had a hard time eating really fatty meats. I usually only get to enjoy it when I'm on my own or out with a friend. Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk

  17. Where does she live in California? I do logistics planning, and my main region is from Utah to California. Hope she enjoys her trip back home. Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk
  18. It's a pretty great resource. I use it a lot myself, sometimes even to order from labels that you could buy from direct. Red Stream Records, for example, is a great label/distro that has been around for years, but their online interface is clunky and cumbersome to use. Whenever I order from them, I always do so through the eBay interface because it's so much easier than their site. Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk
  19. Absolutely. It's okay for people to disagree, but getting butthurt over it will get you flamed. Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk

Yeah, it was with Jeff Hanneman on their Seasons in the Abyss 20th anniversary tour. Dave Lombardo was the only one that had his shit together, the rest of their performances were lazy and awful. They started to get it together a bit towards the end of the album tracks, and sounded okay on some older songs, but lost it again when they launched into Reign in Blood. 22. My wife uses cola when she makes a pot roast too, I think it achieves the same thing. They usually turn out really well, so even though I don't drink soda, I can't argue with results. Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk

I saw them live once and they sucked. I had no desire to see them again after that, I prefer to remember them how they were and not how they are now. Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk
  24. I would venture that most of us are familiar with the history, but you've presented it pretty well here. It was a good read, and is something that new fans need to familiarize themselves with. Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk
