  1. I think it worked perfectly. It really stands out as when they grew up both musically and lyrically.

LMAO! That's awesome! Animals can sense evil. Grimm was bitching last night after we put him in his kennel, he's been doing that a lot lately; so at midnight I got up and moved him into the back room and slept rather well. He wouldn't look at me this morning. He was so butt hurt it was hilarious.
  3. My mistake I was talking about Persistence of Time. I haven't bothered with State of Euphoria.

  6. Why wouldn't I? They got the mustard out!!
  7. They just don't. It's really pathetic. The last two-three DVDs they've put out have contained only if not mostly new material barring everything before Eternity and maybe playing 'Angelica' but that's it. Considering they feel their finest moment was the crappy Alternative 4 I'm surprised they don't play anything off of it. From what I've seen their current set list is basically an abbreviated version of their Universal DVD that just came out. No thanks.
  8. I've never cared for soundtracks unless they had several songs that were only available on said CD. The exception to the rule being movie specific soundtracks aka scores. The exception to that would be: Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Radio Sunnydale and Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Once More With Feeling. Repo! The Genetic Opera was pretty badass as well.

    Drum Machines?

Come on people keep voting. I don't expect a dissertation with the vote but a vote is nice.

  11. Today's rant is about bands that don't play their old material: It's funny, Anathema is playing here for the first time next week. I've always wanted to see them but I'm not going to waste my time/money on what will probably be my only chance to see them live. The reason for this is they only play crap from their last two albums with maybe one odd track from their 6th recording. Their 6th (Alternative 4) is when they stopped being metal and began their alternative interpretation of the beatles/pink floyd/indie journey. In all fairness some of their mid-period work after Alternative 4 wasn't bad. Judgement was a brilliant album in its own right but it wasn't what I wanted to hear from Anathema. The fact that they refuse to play music before that album is a real insult to me as a fan who has spent countless hours listening to their music, hunting for their demos and spending lots of hard earned cash in the process. Say what you want about Metallica but they play their old stuff when they play live. This is the same reason I refused to see Katatonia live. Yet another band I've followed for years until recently when it became apparent they weren't going be getting heavy again. There are plenty of bands that do this too. They either play a few select tracks from their early days ignoring a huge portion of their mid-era catalog (Iron Maiden, Queensryche) or they only play new stuff (Lacuna Coil Malevolent Creation). Some bands like Megadeth will play an assortment but nothing from their first album. In all honesty I can completely understand why a band would want to move on and play other things. You can only play the same songs for so long. But you need to play what the fans what to hear. Bands like My Dying Bride, Type O Negative & Cannibal Corpse will play anything from any era of their music. From their first recording to their latest. Type O was completely sick fo 'Black No 1' but they knew it was expected of them to play it every show and they did. Some bands, like My Dying Bride or even Overkill have enough releases that it's not feasible for them to play everything but both make great strides in trying to everyone happy. Then you get a band like Anthrax who are stuck playing Among the Living constantly even though its followup was heavier and more sinister. Not to mention their last album was just awesome. Will those listed above as violators of the setlist ever change? Maybe, Queensryche has been playing mostly old material i.e. The Warning, Rage for Order, etc... since booting the idiot Tate. But that's one band out of many...

  14. It's not like we haven't talked about it before. Claiming that idea as your own is just false. In all seriousness it probably won't happen but it would be all kinds of cool if it did.

    Funeral Doom

It's funny you say that, on an old forum I believe there was a thread about his misfortune. I did an interview with him this past year on doommantia. He gets into it a little on there. Check it out.
  17. That would be cool as neither one has done a split before.
  18. Thankfully CC didn't play ay 6 minute solos. More like the standard .30 to a min like just about everyone else minus people like Yngwie.
  19. Yngwie cheats. He uses scalloped guitars meaning he barely has to apply any pressure to get the note he wants. Those guitars are more difficult to play to a point but once you figure out how to you can fly like the wind. Blackmore used the same guitar but actually wrote riffs. He doesn't do the insane Yngwie stuff but he is pretty incredible yet people thing he's not as good as Yngwie. Satch and Vai are BORING! Being able to shred is cool but unless you can actually write music it's meaningless.

    Funeral Doom

He's not releasing anything anytime soon. He may never release anything again in fact. He's got a lot of medical issues that hinder his output.
