Iceni given a Damn from H34VYM3T4LD4V3 in Say Cheese
I like the newer costume, although the older one makes you look kinda like Eggman from the Sonic games

Iceni given a Damn from FatherAlabaster in What Are You Listening To?
People said Sudrah reminded them of Martyr so I'm trying out "Warp Zone" at the moment. Enjoying this a lot more now, I think it must have been the vocals that put me off at first. Sadist has been drawing my attention too. For that matter, the new Lo-Ruhamah sounds better on a second listen.

The French-Canadian thematically pseudo-Hindu guys FA recommended. Parts of this remind me of Quo Vadis, who remain my favorite tech-death band despite being a de facto moribund institution.

Mithras - On Strange Loops
Pavor - Furioso ...because the band still has CDs available, and why the fuck wouldn't you buy one.

"Artificial Sun Projection" by Scar Symmetry. Catchy standout song from these guys.

Iceni gave a Damn to RelentlessOblivion in anime/manga
Recently watched Hellsing Ultimate. Overall I'd say 5.5/10 it's ok without being great. The problem with an anime being just one season of 10 episodes is very little room for character development and pacing. Upside there's no filler episodes. It left me wanting more so I suppose that's good as it means the series wasn't awful. At the same time there's no real sense of closure.
What I liked most would have to be the violence. Whether it was Alucard, Anderson, or even Seras on occassion this was hands down the bloodiest anime I've seen. Over the top in every possible way is exactly what I want from anime - particularly an anime involving vampires.
What I disliked most...the soundtrack. It freakin' sucked. Wildly inappropriate for the most part the soundtrack often took away from what would otherwise have been impactful scenes. Case and point London is burning, vampires are sacking the city and people are terrified. You know what DOESN'T fit this scene at all? Fucking JPop I'll leave it there.
What I would have liked to see more of? Seras struggling with herself. For the most part Seras comes off as innocent, almost a comic relief character at times, that was fine (once I got over how god damned awful the scene with her learning she's a vampire was). Then all of a sudden she turns all pissed off and badass for half an episode. Then she's all innocent and a little whiny again for pretty much the rest of the series. If they had just developed the character a little more and changed that first scene with her as a vampire. How does it feel to be a vampire? *cheeky grin* wait what *freakout*? Sorry but that really got under my skin.

Iceni gave a Damn to Requiem in Atmospheric Doom Metal
I'll tell you another atmospheric doom metal album that is utterly transcendent: Funeral - 'From these Wounds'
This is a deeply affecting album that is the perfect combination of emotional riffs and vocals. It took me a while to figure out why the other albums by Funeral didn't have anywhere near the same quality - and the answer is because 'From these Wounds' is the only album the band did with that vocalist and the main songwriter. The effect is perfect.

Iceni given a Damn from MacabreEternal in What's on your mind?
Studying for the GRE at the moment. Really hope I can get good enough financial aid to do a Masters. I'm reasonably hopeful since I do think I'm well-qualified, but I'm also impatient since I know the application process will be glacial.

Iceni given a Damn from dilatedmind in What's on your mind?
Man this album was such a disappointment after Time I. It was decent enough, on the level of your average Russian atmospheric BM bands on the Nihil Arts label, but nowhere hear the quality I expected given the previous album. Maenpaa set himself a goal and failed it because aside from the Winter track none of the songs really evoked the seasons. Occupational hazard of being a black metal artist? I wouldn't think so, Wintersun's not pure black metal by a long shot. It should have been relatively easy to do it on a basic level but harder to execute masterfully - and I figured it was well within Maenpaa's reach. Still think it is. Looking forward to Time II, if/when it's ever made.

Still a Christian prog head and a pedant, and now with my degree I am equipped to be more verbose than ever before. Believe it!

Iceni gave a Damn to H34VYM3T4LD4V3 in Petrol Head Thread (cars)
That is an awesome looking car, they added that to Forza recently I love it too.
How about we post the cars we own ?
I absolutely love my Fiat 500 Twinair, tiny engine but sounds pretty cool (like a annoyed lawnmower but still xD) and who needs a big engine when your car is as small as a 500
I love how the interior looks aswell, and despite being small it actually doesn't feel small when you're inside it.

Iceni given a Damn from Balor in arab metal
Re: arab metal Well, there are several bands that do that. Orphaned Land is probably most famous for playing folk metal in the Middle East, but they're Hebrew, not Arab. Al-Namrood, a Saudi Arabian black metal band, is probably the best known Arabic metal group I can think of. Their similarities are primarily in rhythm and melody, not necessarily instrumentation. Maybe you might want to check out Arsames from Iran. Granted, they're not Arabic, they're Persian, and they also don't use folk instruments, but the influence is clearly there. Of course, Al-Namrood (named for a demonic figure in Arabic legends) is flagrantly anti-clerical so I don't like them much. But Myrath is awesome! If Symphony X were all Middle Eastern and had strong folk elements, they'd sound like this Tunisian group. Narjahanam from Bahrain are Arabic folk/death. They're probably the purest synthesis - they even sing about Middle Eastern history.

Oh by the way, just to make sure this thread doesn't die; Without Face is a very good female-fronted band... -

FA believes that because there's no such thing as right or wrong, we have a moral imperative to tolerate each other.

Iceni given a Damn from FatherAlabaster in What Are You Listening To?
Me neither. I'll try out Serpent's Venom, though.
@FatherAlabaster 'Litourgiya' by Batushka. Solid black metal with (allegedly) mostly medieval chant vocals. Also beings of Poland. Seems like it'd be exactly your sort of thing. I'm certainly loving it so far.
