  1. Re: Favourite Music Video? Does the movie "The Wall" count?
  2. Re: Ronnie James Dio His work with Rainbow was fantastic. One of the best voices ever.
  3. There should be an "Other Instruments" sub-forum in instrument talk. There are plenty of other instruments used in metal. Especially the synthesizer. There should be a sub-forum especially for the synth.
  4. Re: Which Rock Bands Do People Like? I love progressive/symphonic rock. Neal Morse, Pink Floyd, Transatlantic, The Flower Kings, Spock's Beard, Yes, Genesis, Rush, Porcupine Tree, Frost*, Airbag. But I also like some classic rock, like Deep Purple, Rainbow, Queen, The Who and The Rolling Stones.
  5. Re: What Are You Listening To? Frost* - Black Light Machine
  6. Re: classical? Classical is one of the best genres around. I especially like baroque music like Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach and George Friedrich Händel, but I do love wiener-classicism as well as 20th-21st century classical music. In fact, when I was a little kid, Tschaikowsky's "The Nutcracker" was my favorite CD.
  7. Re: Extreme Metal! Extreme metal does indeed include loads of black and death metal bands, but also doom and trash. Extreme metal can be applied to the music (whether it's intended to be more harsh, aggressive, abrasive or heavier than other metal styles), lyrics (dealing with darker topics), and appearance (corpse paint, Satanic or occult immagery etc.). It is also very much dependent of the time, and what is extreme for the present.

  9. Re: best metal guitarist (your opinion) Don't even mention Mustaine. He's horrible. Sure, he knows how to play but he does it inside a box. Paul Gilbert is pretty amazing though, and Malmsteen isn't to bad either.. John Petrucci is an awesome player though. Within metal he is definitely one of the best.
  10. Re: Avenged Sevenfold Metal, but not good metal.
  11. Re: Suggested bands? How about Black Sabbath? I know many consider them rather heavy metal, but they're often credited with creating heavy metal as well as doom metal.
  12. In case you don't know, Ayreon is the primary project by dutch composer, singer and multi-instrumentalist Arjen A. Lucassen. He creates concept albums with sci-fi stories (except for the albums The Human Equation, which isn't really sci-fi (though still connected to the main storyline) and Actual Fantasy which isn't a concept album.) Something that's very unique about Arjen's music, is that his works can be considered metal operas, because of the fact that he uses lots of singers, each with different roles. In fact, the same singer (or even musician) never appear on more than one album by Ayreon (except for Arjen and his drummer). If you haven't listened to Ayreon, I definitely recommend it. His music is quite eclectic though, a good starter album would be The Human Equation, which is very accessible compared to the other Ayreon releases.
  13. Re: Seventh Wonder Pretty certain they're progressive, although I haven't listened to them.
  14. Re: most preferable tuning I tried that once... Didn't sound too bad, but not particularly good either I actually used it when creating bass-riffs for a song I was composing. Since I don't own a bass, I thought "Hey, I'll just tune it down one octave!"
  15. Re: CLOTHES I'm nowhere near a classic metalhead outfit, except for growing my hair. I prefer blank t-shirts (white, usually) with an open shirt on top, coloured pants, and a pair of Converse. Occasionally I'll wear a hat. Hats are awesome.
  16. Re: dream theater Oddly I refuse to listen to singles, so I'm not listening to it before the album is released. And I'm not particularly interested in their new material whatsoever, since Metropolis Pt. 2 (their definite Magnum Opus in my opinion) they've been moving away from progressive and more towards traditional heavy metal, which disappoints me as they are indeed my favourite band (for some reason).
  17. Hi guys, my name's Aksel and I'm a metalhead, although I'm mainly into progressive. I also listen to classical and occasionally blues or jazz. Yeah, I know, I'm not a true metalhead. I'm also a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and composer, though I haven't made anything major yet. Anyways, nice to meet y'all.
