  1. On the contrary, it tends to be the most watered down commercial bands that receive the most notice. Pop accessibility sells, not originality, or Celtic Frost would be more popular than Whitesnake. Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
That's always been the case, and you even pointed it out yourself. Glam/hair bands collectively dominated the mainstream in the '80s. There were exceptions, of course. But I wasn't explicitly referring to the mainstream, either.
  2. I don't think it's any easier to get noticed this way either. Maybe in some instances this would be true' date=' but because of having so much available at your fingertips all the time, there are many things being recommended or promoted to you all the time, and just as many great bands still go unnoticed.[/quote'] Well, there is certainly no arguing that the internet can offer fruition for new and undiscovered bands. It happens all the time, even if the web is a mixed bag. Cyberspace is just like any other medium for promotion--some bands get noticed, others don't. But you're right: it's a problem getting noticed because the internet makes so much available, which can be an issue if you sound like hundreds of other bands. Play your cards right, bring something different to the table, and you will won't have much of a problem generating some interest.
  3. Hi boys and girls, I didn't know exactly where to put this one; it didn't fit into reviews or promotions, so this seemed best. I recently saw Maiden and Alice Cooper, wanted to share my experience, and urge you to go see either band if they are coming through your town. See my write-up below, please. Hope you enjoy. I'm still around, though mostly lurking, so no need to freak out that I'm actually posting. Most of the time I forget to log in. :(http://www.themetaladvisor.com/2012/07/ ... ooper.html :)

  4. Re: Meshuggah.

Meshuggah's first album is technical thrash metal.
I haven't heard that one. I find that pretty hard to believe based on their other records, but I'll take your word for it. 8-) Still, I wouldn't call them a technical thrash band based on one album. Seems like a bit of a stretch.
  5. Re: Meshuggah.

It is a subgenre of Metal' date=' since the Sound, has made it into a Name for the style of music, Therefore turning it into a Sub genre, and one of the fastest growing, and most awesome ones too.[/quote'] Relaxxxxxx. Everyone is entitled to their opinion here. I'm not the one to make decisions, so I doubt it's going anywhere. ;)
  6. Re: Gothic Metal Thread

so djent is a style of playing' date=' NWOBHM is just a movement and really belongs inside the heavy/traditional metal section, battle metal is just a lyrical concept, groove metal is inactive, we can scrap all of those sections I think[/quote'] Yes on all accounts. I've long said NWoBHM needs to go into the heavy / trad. section. :ugeek: I think if the forum was cleaned up and inactive sections were ousted, MF would look more presentable.
  7. Re: Gothic Metal Thread

did ANYONE actually want a battle metal section? we could quite easily axe that for gothic metal' date=' I have no idea what djent is so I don't know if that can be dismissed so easily[/quote'] No, not that I know of. Like I said earlier, djent is a style of playing, not a subgenre of metal. Bands typical of the style are Periphery, Tesseract, Animals as Leaders, etc. Those are the more well-known ones anyway.
  8. Re: Top 10 Albums of Any Given Year

perhaps but United is still heavier then a lot of their eighties work for example you've got another thing coming is barely even rock' date=' and I don't remember anything metal sounding on turbo[/quote'] I edited my post for a bit more discussion while you were posting. :D
  9. Re: Top 10 Albums of Any Given Year

British Steel - one of the best Priest albums of the eighties and perhaps the last Priest album that was entirely metal
Thank you for your input, sir. I have to say, however, that this a bold claim. My eyes literally popped out of my head. For example, "United" is a hard rock song! Edit: Now that I think about it, British Steel is more hard rock-based than anything. Priest really dumbed down their sound on some of the '80s releases. Much weaker than the '70s albums. Much.
  10. Re: Best Iron Maiden Album

Dance Of Death as a metal album is ok' date=' unfortunately however as an Iron Maiden album it is horrible, in my opinion it is nothing more then an attempt at Fear Of The Dark II...[/quote'] I'm afraid I find this hard to agree with. Brave New World and Dance of Death were the last level of "good" albums Maiden put out, with the most recent two pretty plodding and boring. Dance of Death is actually my favorite post 2000 record because it has some excellent song writing and melody lines. To me, parts of it feel like a continuation of Brave New World, but with either a more mature or "rocking" feel. I actually like Fear of the Dark, mind you, but DoD is nothing like that record in terms of musicality or quality. And it was the last record Bruce sounded good on. Voted Powerslave as the best Maiden record.
