  1. Metallica had a few proggy songs in the 80's, especially from And Justice for All where every song had a fair share of progginess. Don't forget Watchtower.
  2. I've heard Sinatra's debut album just to say I did. And my username is a direct reference to a Metallica album. That ain't even my number one album. My number one's from the 70's, but that's all I'm saying in the event I wanna put my top 100 albums of all genres and all time up here.
  3. I admit it's one of their better albums, but it would've been perfect if they had let that weird spirit they had on their Halo-themed albums out instead of steering closer to the typical deathcore style. The more straightforward they get, the more their personal style is gone.
  4. A: I like making lists in general. It helps me keep track, and comes in handy when I'm making custom lists for years or genres or other things. B: It doesn't happen very often, but one a year or so I learn something new about music which helps me re-evaluate my standards on metal, so I go through my top 100 again. However, it's rare that the whole list changes, and most times I reevaluate an album it stays right where it was before. In this current update, I've already got that new outlook, but it would only really apply to a few albums on the top 100. Also, I'm going back to a few albums I haven't heard in years. Only a few. The rest is fine. Basically, it all comes down to one thing: gut instinct.
  5. Well, now that we're acquainted, no need to ban me for overposting.
  6. Not the way I've got it sorted. Believe it or not, unless I'm already reevaluating the albums in the top 100, it stays consistent. I've got a master list on my computer that I've been working on since late-2012: every album I've ever heard from best to worst. It started with only about 30 alums and I've been working my way up ever since. It's an autism thing, but it's fun. Plus, no one's done that before. It's too large to upload at once, though. And if I do update it, I might make it a yearly thing, depending on how much it changes.
  7. I just keep an openoffice ranked list. I've been keeping a ranked list for fun ever since October 2012, when I started on forums. I keep every entry genre tagged, so I always know what my top death metal albums are.
  8. I wouldn't mind reading a top 200. Hell, I've got a list of my 500 greatest albums ever, and all of them are IMO flawless for what they're trying to achieve. But for death metal, I still got a few bands I need to check out, like The Chasm.
  9. What strikes me the most with both lists is how one's loaded with band after band with a diversity strength, and the other's obviously got fan dedication. Never seen so many Evoken albums grouped together. Both are good reads.
  10. Honestly, I get annoyed with monotony. As long as a band isn;t flat-out selling out, I'm fine with trying new things. Honestly, I wish Shadow of Intent would change things up more instead of steering further and further into "typical" deathcore. Without the Halo influence, they've lost a big part of their identity. And then we have Linkin Park. I never thought I'd want nu metal back.
  11. Matter of fact, I DID catch that, and I'm gonna be using it pretty often.
  12. Sweet. Thanks for the links, everyone. But just so you know, when I post it I'm gonna do it Movieforums style. I'm gonna go from 100 to 1, posting only five at a time and seeing what people have to say. I might post two groups of five a day, maybe three until it's done. But I've gotta get it right. Right now the top 100 list I have is loaded with albums I haven't heard in a long time, so I gotta reevaluate a few of them.
  13. Lemme tell ya, after going over the old Blind Guardian classics yesterday to the point where I heard the big three twice (SFB, Nightfall and IftOS), it feels good to be excited about a metal album coming out in a month again. Why? Because even though BG apparently failed with their recent 90-minute classical album, they confirmed that they're going back to the old BG elements they've been ignoring for years, like the crunch factor and the speed metal. To confirm this, they posted a couple songs online. And boy, do these songs sound true to their words. Are you as hyped as I am? Honestly, I have no idea just how good this album will be, but I'm positive it's gonna be one of their modern greats. Also, this album cover is totally EVANGELION.
  14. Mayhem don't have a single bad album, and if you ask me, Grand Declaration of War kicks serious ass, along with Deathcrush. Burzum albums tend to be a bit monotonous. So, even without the morale behind my decision stemming from watching Lords of Chaos, Mayhem gets my vote.
  15. OK, first, a little subtext. On the last metal board I joined, I planned on surprising them with a top 100 metal albums list, and the mod who invited me there from Movieforums said I could maybe get the list featured on another mod's blog. However, that place isn;t really working out. The few active people there don't actually wanna talk metal, getting completely off-topic, and the mods don't wanna do anything about it. So my two questions are simple: 1. Is there a special subforum for posting top 100 lists or lists of any kind? 2. I really doubt this, but is there a Metalforum blog where users can post lists with commentary, and what does it take to get it featured?
  16. I know right? Spread your newfound dragon wings and fly.

    Korn

I just learned to love em this year. Gotta hand it to them for literally inventing a new genre, although it was full of posers and imitators.
  18. Wrong. YOU will die. I will be reincarnated as Lord Raptor.
  19. Sooooo.... Weather looks pretty apocalyptic today, huh?
  20. Think of it as gothic metal without the metal, so not anywhere near as good as MDB. Listening to Somewhere Far Beyond. Been on a huge Blind Guardian binge today.
  21. May ranking goes as follows: 1. Metallica 2. Slayer 3. Megadeth 4. Slayer - the only one who never had a singer 5/5 album for me. Testament would've been a better choice.
  22. I don't listen to Tool very often, but I will say that I see a lot of value in Fear Inoculum, even though I agree it's probably their worst studio album. But if Blind Guardian turned from a speed band into a symphonic one and still sounded good, I think these guys can go more for rock than metal if they wanted to.
  23. O)n the plus side, we still at least have Mudhoney. And there's always the occasional modern band doing something grungy. Check out the Quebec band Les Veterans. Incredible grunge punk
