  1. Mulyfication - Swamped in Forlorn Misery Ukrainian death metal https://bldmgk.bandcamp.com/album/swamped-in-forlorn-misery-lp
  2. I'd say that's probably more a case of: a) where my mind tends to go first, as those bands are fresher in my memory b) the fact that genres weren't always super well defined back in the 80's, with speed metal being especially hard to pin down since it tends to often overlap with traditional heavy metal, thrash, and power metal. c) a lot of those 80's speed metal bands tended to fade out after only an album or two If you're looking for older bands though...I can't believe I forgot to mention either Acid! or Helstar who are both absolutely mandatory. After that try: Angel Dust Warfare Agent Steel Avenger Griffin Rage
  3. Surprisingly...the first couple of Blind Guardian albums Vanik Baphomet's Blood Chapel Speedwolf Chevalier Demona Exorcist Raven Evil Invaders Bulldozer Midnight Nuke Ranger (stick with the EPs) Vulture Seax Stalker KAT (first album) Bat Bewitcher Black Viper
  4. Aphelium Aeternum - Dark Interstellar Mysteries Pure Emperor worship
  5. In Obscurity Revealed (Mexico) - Demo 2023
  6. This is just about the right amount of prog/tech for me to enjoy in my death metal
  7. No...he's right to avoid it. With respect to those of you who are enjoying it, they've clearly climbed up their own ass with this one. A buddy of mine just described it as too much Anata, not enough Autopsy, annd he isn't wrong Ulamog - The Hungriest Of The Old Ones They're calling this crossover thrash, but I'm not really hearing the crossover. Sounds like regular thrash to me...solid though https://ulamogva.bandcamp.com/album/the-hungriest-of-the-old-ones
  8. No man, crust is mainly a mix of the late 70's/early 80's hardcore/anarcho punk sound and the rougher sounding, early 80's speed metal/1st wave black metal bands. Depending on if you want to set the mark with Amebix and Antisect or with stuff like Hellbastard and Doom, it could either be considered to predate death metal by a few years or to have developed side-by-side with it, but either way it exists independent of it
  9. Imperial Crystalline Entombment - Ancient Glacial Resurgence Reactivated side project of Ron Vento from Aurora Borealis https://imperialcrystallineentombment.bandcamp.com/album/ancient-glacial-resurgence
  10. Only stuff they ever did that I personally thought was worth a damn was their early death metal demos. NP: Feldgrau - In Stahlgewittern Black metal about WWI...music is pretty good, but I'm not sure about the vocals. Think they may be a bit too forward in the mix or something...still, this definitely has potential. https://feldgrau-official.bandcamp.com/album/in-stahlgewittern
  11. Sulphur Aeon - Seven Crowns and Seven Seals October 13th, 2023
  12. Commuted - The Obsession with Lessening Death U.S. blackened death...flirts a bit with war metal at times https://commuted666.bandcamp.com/album/the-obsession-with-lessening-death Fuck...this ain't half-bad.
  13. Valravn - The Awakening https://primitivereaction.bandcamp.com/album/the-awakening Finnish black metal...Seems a bit more melodic than their debut album a couple years back, or maybe they just improved the production. Still a pretty solid release
  14. Predates all but Falkenbach (if we're including demos) by several years...Folk metal goes back to at least '91 with the band Skyclad, though I personally always found the singers vocals kind of hard to tolerate. Cruachan is in there somewhere too
  15. These kinds of bands are usually lumped together since they tend to share a lot of thematic overlap Windir, Bran Barr, Manegarm, Ensiferum, Arkona (the Russian one), Skálmöld, Heidevolk, Primordial, Mael Mordha, early Enslaved, Falkenbach, Folkvang, Forefather, Graveland, Summoning, Moonsorrow, Murg, Nechochwen, Nornir, Norrhem, Obscurity, Panphage (highly recommended), Runespell, Finntroll, Thyrfing, Thrudvangar, Vintersorg, Waylander, Winterfylleth, Ygg
  16. Doom, Disfear, Wolfbrigade, Nausea, Stormcrow, Extreme Noise Terror ...since we're at t-minus 10 seconds until Macabre Eternal nukes this thread because I'm sure someone somewhere once made a similar thread 40 years ago...can I request the Mods at least link to the old thread before closing the replies
  17. I surprised myself with that album considering it runs pretty far outside my usual wheelhouse for death metal, but it was actually pretty good.
  18. Weald and Woe - For The Good of The Realm Legit surprise...I wasn't expecting to enjoy that as much as I did NP: Osculum Serpentis - Maleficia
  19. Artistic license aside, it was actually a real helmet
