In Australia you also need a credit rating to get a lease.
Paying your bills (like power or water or rent) on time doesn't actually count towards credit ratings.
Basically to be able to function in society you have to get into debt.  The whole concept is beyond moronic!
Also as Australia is on its way to ultrafucked, if you shop around for credit by talking to a variety of lenders it reduces your credit rating!  
And if anyone reviews you credit rating even if you don't hold credit with them, it also lowers the credit rating.
So if your bank or a lender has a policy of regularly reviewing credit ratings, they will reduce your rating even if you are paying for it.
If you discussed a loan with a large number of banks to get best deal, you've reduced your own credit rating.
 
 
The dumbest fucking thing is the credit utilisation rate (35% of score).  You don't want it to be too high but it's also bad if it's too low.  Literally paying your credit card off gives you a poorer credit rating than maintaining a percentage of debt on it

I don't use credit cards. I don't believe in the credit system (it's a whole big thing I'm not going to get into right now). If I can't buy something with cash, then I just go without.

Totally agree with this post.  I've known so many people who bankrupted themselves despite having decent jobs.  I know 3 couples who couldn't afford their homes despite being on reasonable income.  In all 3 instances they sold up and went to rent.  But when you look at their spending habits you can see why - latest $1500 iPhone instead of a $250 Samsung, top clothing brands, expensive cars, thousands spent on useless trinkets.  Even knew one lady who did not want to dry her clothes outside or on a clothes rack and incurred thousands of dollars in electricity bills by using a dryer and then would cry how she couldn't afford to pay her power bill.
I've known quite a few people who use one credit card to pay off another.  And even more who do things like go on holidays on their credit card.
My own parents bankrupted in the 1980s and then mismanaged whatever money they got since.
 
I've even known university educated people who didn't understand the concept of interest rates or understand that at some point honeymoon period on their home loan finishes and they start to pay full amount.

Thanks, I can write relatively well when I want to. One thing I had always hoped to do for a career was to review music, so occasionally I write up reviews about albums I have purchased. I'd do more, but I'm not really on the cutting-edge of music, as I am buying albums from years ago that I never heard at the time.

I might write up a review of Cemetery Lust "Screams of the Violated" later on today, but I haven't made my mind up whether I want to review that or another album instead.

1914 is the shit but I'll be the first to admit that I am completely biased toward Ukrainian bands anyway because I am Ukrainian-American. They really are putting out the best stuff in recent years over there. My favorite black metal band of all time is Nokturnal Mortum and it's because of them that I realized that Ukraine tends to put out the best stuff these days. Sadly I think Norway & Sweden's time under the moon is over and Ukraine, Russia, & Poland have picked up the torch. Granted I still love Emperor, Marduk, Immortal and whatnot but it just seems like Scandinavia's black metal time has largely passed and that's OK because that's what happens to scenes-- they only last for so long until people grow out of them and want to start making different sorts of music.

I think the reason that Ukraine, Poland, Belarus, Russia, and a lot of Eastern Europe is producing so much amazing black metal now is because they were living under communist repression for so long where that sort of nonconformity wasn't allowed whatsoever, so you have generations of artists that had been holding it in for so long, both the older guys who experienced communism and the younger generations who lived in the aftermath of the collapse, when people had to go out and sell their possessions to be able to eat, created a lot of hatred, misanthropy, and general negativity that is perfect for making amazing black metal.

My buddy recently told me about 1914 and I'm going to be buying some of their stuff as soon as I can find it because they really are great and I like Marduk's WWII subject matter so a band that writes about WWI is pretty cool too, since WWI is the war that nobody ever really talks about when compared with WWII. Supposedly there's a band called Minenwerfer who writes a lot about WWI as well and I've heard great things about them, but I'd have to import their stuff from Osmose which costs an arm and a leg compared to Hell's Headbangers.

Tbh, hiding your drinking from your wife doesn't sound like the best lifechoice in the long run. Seems indicative of larger issues,  but what do I know? I think feeling the need to hide your drinking in general is a red flag.

I'm eating Haribo Twin Snakes gummies right now. I have a nasty Haribo habit because I'm a sucker for gummies. They're easily my favorite candies.

I just can't be bothered spending all that money on a tour of another country. If I'm going to live out of a swag I'm doing it in my own backyard. I've driven across this country too many times to count. I've driven around the country once for my own recreation. There is so much I still haven't seen which I'd prefer to see before I see anything else.
Not sure when it will be yet but my next trip is going to be covering central New South Wales and Southern Queensland. We'll spend a week or two out in the red dirt just touring around and stopping where we want to. There is a tour I want to do which is "5 Days In A Plane" which is a sightseeing tour where they do five different flight tours over 4 days in a Cesna. They only take 6 people at a time and it's really just a chance to get to see things from an angle we don't usually get to see it from. But I'd much rather something like that rather than going over seas.
