The worst thing about being a DM is creating a world, writing out a huge campaign, and then having nobody around to play it because they all went to college. This happened to me and it was irritating as hell, and is what made me put away my D&D rulebooks as something from teenage years now gone.

The thing is, I probably still have the campaign data somewhere in my house. In some forgotten box in my closet.

Dude, don't even think about that shit for any reason. As someone who bought a 9mm carbine and began sticking it in his mouth two years ago "just to see how it felt" as my relationship with someone I wanted to have kids & a life with was falling apart rapidly, please go talk to someone right away. The fucked thing about suicide is that these kinds of thoughts are how it starts and it may seem like a beneficial thing for the family, or a way out, but you have to think about the damage that you'd do to the people who survive you and are going to be asking why you did it, even when your financial situation seems insurmountable & horrible. I promise you that even if you think that you have a good reason, people are going to miss you much more than they're going to be thankful for a life insurance payment.

I have prior attempts on my own life. I tried to hang myself but the fixture I tried to do it from ended up collapsing. I also tried to OD on drugs and simply just got really high for days (and probably did permanent brain damage and heart damage in the process). I am on meds now that make me realize that suicide is never an option because as bad as things get (and they're going to get bad societally for me in the next few years), I'd rather force the authorities to kill me so I can escape the reeducation camps & political prison than die by my own hand and have the remaining few people who love me wondering why I did it and why I chose to leave them here without me.

Don't do it. Talk to someone. There are things that are preferable to life and I get it completely, but those things are not here yet although they are in the process of coming down the pipe.

And that’s perfectly fine because it’s personal taste.
For me though, albums like ‘De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas’, ‘In the Nightside Eclipse’ and ‘Storm of the Lights Bane’, to name but three, are the near pinnacle of metal evolution and the beginning of its devolution.
Throw ‘Turn Loose the Swans’, ‘Bloody Kisses’ and hell, even ‘Demanufacture’ in there and we are starting to look at a special time in musical output.
    Hail 1993-1995.

Hello everyone! This is pretty hard but here it goes in no order in particular:
    1. Judas Priest
    2. Tristania (Vibeke Stene era not Mariangela, sorry!)
    3. Draconian
    4. Alice in Chains
    5. Candlemass

Like I said, the only ones I've heard at this point in time are Wildfire, Call of the Wild, and Phoenix Rising. I'm actually not too up on Destroyer 666, but they're one of those bands that I want to get into because I hear a lot of great things about them and they seem to be on everyone's "best of" lists.

The other stuff I picked up was Rotting Christ "The Heretics", Panopticon "Social Disservices", Drudkh "A Furrow Cut Short", and Cemetery Lust "Screams of the Violated" (Because Hell's Headbangers the label puts out some great material like Acid Witch, Nekrofilth, and Nupraptor and I want to support them even if I've never heard of the band before). Usually ever two weeks or so I make an order from Hell's Headbangers. I was ordering stuff from Osmose for a while but it's all super expensive having to convert dollars to euros and for some reason, the last time I ordered something on Osmose, my bank shut my debit card off for "suspected fraudulent activity" because Osmose is based in France. Problem is, Osmose is the only place where I can get stuff like Nokturnal Mortum & Kroda reliably.

You only get $1 an hour extra to work on a holiday?
Shit employers in this country would love that, most here pay a minimum of time and a half, some pay as high as double time plus an extra day off for working holidays.

Closest I ever got to that sort of thing was as a kid, when we'd tag along while my dad did Revolutionary War reenactment. Tents, hasty pudding, britches, a musket I wasn't allowed to play with, triangular bayonets. Ah childhood.

I've played Magic but it's a money pit.  You literally have to keep buying cards to stay relevant.  That and the scene is full of ultra competitive types which we historical wargamers generally aren't.

This truly is a great album. Unfortunately, it's the only Cro-Mags album that I have at the moment because it's the only one that I could find. That one track "Two Hours" is pretty relevant to my life, because I always have to stop myself and think "Where do I want to be in two hours? Not sitting in a cell wondering why did I put myself here?"

I listen to a lot of hardcore in addition to metal. This one is one of my favorites out of all the hardcore albums that I own.

We've been playing mostly card games here, but (as a sort of combination card/board game) my son made me a version of Sorry (for Father's Day of course) called "Sorry Dad". Played on a Sorry board but with a new deck of cards that have different moves. It's actually different and fun. I guess this pays me back for the time I made him an entire Scrabble set out of card stock when ours was in storage.

This one's much better, or at least it's a much easier listen for me because it's not what I would call excessively chaotic and it doesn't use dissonance as a weapon to make me feel like I'm on some kind of bad drugs and up is down and my world is spinning out of control. Best tracks here were the penultimate track, Gegen Das Licht and the closer Haven. I do like an album that finishes strong.
Now of course I'm sure you already know before I even say it that I'm slightly irritataed that they call this "black metal" because it's nothing of the sort. I'm sorry Doc, but this and black metal have nothing in common. Why do bands do that? Just call it avant-garde post metal and leave the black out of it. To me this actually sounds much more like what Mark (not you Doc, the other Mark) and Johan and those dudes call post metal/post hardcore.
But setting that one small but very important nit pick aside, musically I'll say this is pretty good Doc. I actually like the pretty parts the best but even during the more metallic parts it's alright because I can at least follow along with it, doesn't make me feel like I'm crazy or stupid or anything because I can't decipher it like those DSO bands generally do. But it's not something I'd buy you see because it doesn't sound "evil" or "filthy". Extreme metal needs to be one or the other or both ideally for me to consider it. And it's also not "riffy" which is another big negative in my book.
This is largely clean not filthy, and it's almost uplifting in spots, not angry and hateful. The dude does sound a lil' bit annoyed at times but he's not conveying true bone chilling, church burning hatefulness and evil the way I feel black metal vocalists should. He sounds more like he's pissed off they got his burger order wrong or a bird shit on his windshield on the way to work or something. So you see in that way it's not cathartic for me the way black metal is, which is something I really need Doc. Because black metal exorcises my inner demons allowing me to walk around with a smile on my face and to be the care-free happy-go-lucky guy that we all know and love.

I did give it a shot oh patriarch of the white rock. Didn't make it all the way to the bitter end but I listened to about 3/4 of it before I gave up. I see it's our buddies the ED twins again. This must be a side project or something of theirs I guess.
It was definitely somewhat easier to make sense of this album than the Hornywood album, in track 5 for a minute or two I was almost starting to sense a pattern that I could latch onto. But I can't say I found anything "fun" about this album.
Now this dude did sound legitimately angry, but I'm talking like unhinged mental institution angry, not regular sane person angry. And once again the levels of choas and dissonance on display here are simply beyond what my pea brain can comprehend or tolerate. Smarter men (and women of course) than I may be able to get something out of this kind of music and more power to them, it takes all kinds. But I just find it unsettling (not in a good way) like deep inside my guts, like it makes me feel like I have to take a shit or deliver a baby or something.
"Avant-garde" stuff like this is really closer to what I'd call noise than music. I don't say that to be confrontational or insulting or argumentative or anything, that's just my take, albeit a dismissive one. Personally I need my music to be in tune using standard time signatures (I've found 4/4 works quite well) and use regular notes and chords n shit that go together. Mismatched notes confuse me. Dissonant or atonal chaos (Doc has explained it to me but I can never remember the difference tbh) just doesn't appeal to me, it has the polar opposite effect.

Haha I call Tool nu-metal and several of my friends who are pretty heavily into them get all bent out of shape over that. They don't want their beloved Maynard and Tool assosciated with an inferior sub-genre that they despise. But I just call 'em like I see 'em. Sounds like whiny nu-metal to me, just more "posty." They're the band that writes songs that build and build creating tension but never reaching a climax. I should coin a new sub-genre just for them, "blue balls rock"

Consider yourself lucky to have an OG older version. I promise you, the new(er) edition isn't nearly as good. There aren't nearly as many characters to choose from and it doesn't have anywhere near as many adventure cards or spell cards, so the gameplay gets far more repetitive than how I remember the older version.
