this meme hits heavy for me. i live in the hipster ridden twin cities and almost every metal band in the local metal scene is stoner metal. there's a few good black, thrash and death metal bands here, but it's mostly that trendy ass stoner shit. it's ironic how hipsters claim to be anti-mainstream, yet they're very much part of mainstream culture (atleast these days) fucking hipsters!!! 😤

The older I get the easier it is to forget that a bands location is just that and nothing more. True you can group certain specific scenes and sounds to some specific geographic regions and time periods, but it's ultimately only useful as a point of origin. Slam death out of Vatican city? Sure thing. Technical grindcore rockabilly from the Yukon? Bring it on. Then for some reason I stumble onto a black metal band from West Virginia and I'm somehow surprised.
