  4. Yes, I always thought as amazing a singer as Mercury was, he always had the lead vocals, but I see not so for I'm In Love with my Car and Tenement Funster....really like the vox on those two, as well.
  5. Motorhead/Bastards-First time listen, on the way into work, first 3-4 tracks, 1993, from what I've read, a transitional period for the band, 20 years in, l Lemmy wanted to shake things up with an roof rattling album and return to what they did best. Time will tell how this ranks for me, but a few tracks in, I'm optimistic. Listening to some stuff I recently saved on Bandcamp: The Lord/forest Nocturne-Greg Anderson....SunnO)))) + John Carpenter films, er, not sure yet Vanum/Legend-enjoyed this one quite a bit Huntsmen/The Dying Pines-Americana/folk rock+ metal-this one not landing for me today, tho, their cover of Crosby Stills and Young, Carry On is interesting. Corpressed-Succumb to Rot-perchance not in the mood, but meh SEID-Svartr Sól

  8. Joe comp buyer, huh? I have a few comps but it's hardly my bread and butter. You overthink this stuff way more than I do. You're a bigger Ramones fan than I am. TBH my reaction to your post is, so what? You call me the diplomat, well here's a phrase, don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. A bunch of tunes covering a band's entire discography. My attitude, is well, they had make choices, now didn't they? You certainly won't see me going album by album with a magnifying class, OMG, they didn't include this track. Outrageous! I really don't sweat the details with this tiny little corner of my listening life. Life is short.
  9. I owned Road to Ruin when I was in H.S. It's got some weak points IMO like don't come close , but it has some great songs. Something to Do is my favorite as well. No doubt they converted a lot of metal fans with that one.
  10. Ramones -S/T Ramones/Leave Home Ramones/Rocket to Russia Ramones/Road to Ruin Queen/A Night At The Opera Rinse Repeat, etc.
  11. Got it OGG! Understood, but in your case, that would mean including every single track on any given album which, by definition would not be a comp! It would be like a box set of ooriginal albums or somethin'. Quotations before the period. I've completely lost track of the plot. How was that comma? U.S. Ausie or Brit style or universal. 😆 I'm getting a curious image of the OGG teaching a H.S. English class except as my Mom used to bitch at me and my brother in the 70's, they just don't teach grammar in American schools any more. What has happened to this country! Recon that ship sailed long ago.
  12. OK, enough of commas and English Grammar. I know you love Ramones and figured you'd chime in. You're more of a super fan than I am and I didn't like punk when I was young, but in high school I always liked the Ramones and Clash, but I never owned their essential early albums until recently. I do remember owning end of the Century and Road to Ruin. When I was dabbling in various punk artists, I looked for a good compilation and then more recently picked up their first four albums. I've done that for any number of artists. Yes, owning studio albums makes sense much of the time, but when looking at bands with large discographies, getting a comp is a good starting place. Then, I fill in the pieces. In this case their entire discography is anthologized in order. I'm not going to buy their albums after 1980. I'm probably not going to get End of the Century. But, there are some individual tracks that are decent and work well on a playlist. Sometimes, I just want a shot of Ramones and I'm not going to listen to all four albums. That's where disc 1 works-covers their debut through End of the Century with 33 tracks. Other times, I'll choose the individual album. Honestly for me, those first three albums are the most important and are largely interchangeable. I know there are differences in production, but like Motorhead, they had a template and stuck with it. The songs could be swapped from one album to the other without raising an eyebrow. By my count, disc 1 gives me : Ramones S/T-6 tracks Leave Home-7 tracks Rocket to Russia-7 OK, so this is the holy trinity of early punk via Ramones. An entire disc might be nice, but 20 tracks hits a sweet craving for an album length listen. You can quibble about tracks that are cut, but its a comp, that's what happens and I think they get it mostly right with the important ones. Then, I get: Road to Ruin-5 tracks Rock and Roll High School film-2 tracks End of the Century -5 tracks Disc 2 isn't as strong, but it's still better than I would have expected with some songs I enjoy, even though they stray from their early formula. I'm not going to listen to all those later albums. The entire anthology presents an arc where they started and the progression to the end. It's a snapshot, not unlike any multi disc anthology-Judas Priests' Metalogy comes to mind-sort of a crash course through some highlights. Now, I'll go back and listen to the first 4 studio albums to compare.
  13. Ramones-Hey! Ho! Let's Go: The Anthology- I know I've debated some of you about the relative worth or not of anthologies, and I do have their classic early albums but like No Remorse for a mainlined adrenalized one and done two disc slap down, this track list- I think most would concede-delivers in spades. This attempts to anthologize all of their albums. Disc 1 is stronger which demonstrates how great their first five albums were-the only albums I've ever owned or in fact heard in their entirety ending with 1980's End of the Century. This and It's Alive are my go to's along with their first 3 for individual spins. But this fucker covers the bases for me as I tend to think of their early material as collections of singles-especially their first amazing 3 albums. No. Title Writer(s) Original release Length 1. 14. Great work as always.....you have such a distinctive style....would you describe your style as surrealism or a form modernism or post modernism? It's very articulate and naturalistic in a sense but also fantastical and abstract in some of your conception and highly imaginative to the point of being disturbing, but I mean that in a good way in the way film and, of course avant and progressive metal can be gripping, thought provoking, challenging and disturbing at the same time.
  15. If you broaden it out to female fronted bands you've got plenty of witchy stoner doom posty and even crusty bands like Sub Rosa, Acid King, Royal Thunder, Witch Mountain, Windhand, Agrimonia, Eight Bells also comes to mind. Last year, we had albums from Vouna, King Woman, Succumb, Pupil Slicer, Big/Brave. I think it's fair to say relatively few raw female fronted bands or female extreme vox bands, but the ladies can bring it.
  16. I'm an Enslaved fan but I certainly don't have their entire discog. Frost is the only old album I have and play it regularly. It's pretty frosty 😁 I fall into into the the Isa-Retiir period of fanboydom. Vertabrae, sort of a one one off, is one of my all time favorites in a similar way that I really like BAN's Mort-both outlier albums in those bands catalogs. Vertabrae is prolly the most obvious Floydian worship of the albums I have and has an almost late period Neurosis mellow weightiness . It's deeeep, man-haha. But if I could only listen to two albums for the rest of my days, I'd have to go with Isa and Axioma-two epic albums in progressive extremity for sure. I'll put a damper on the Enslaved party and say after Retiir, they started repeating themselves and have been pretty uninspiring-OK-I'm ready for the slings and arrows! Not to say they are bad albums. I mean, if they were a new band and the first album they produced was Utgard, I'd probably say, who the hell are these wiz kids-this shit is great, but IDK, the Beatles knew when to fold 'em after their late 60's psyche masterpieces for good reason. Even Beethoven stopped after 9 symphonies. OK, so he died, but you get my point.......lost that loving feeling after Retiir. The juju sauce wasn't poppin' so much. Just kind of 'aight for me since Retiir......
  17. Top tier albums, there Motorhead/Bomber Kiss/Hotter than Hell Kiss/Love Gun
  18. Yes, she has a very nice voice. It's very pretty and makes me think of something like a new age artist if Lorena McKennit decided to make a doom adjacent album but there is actually surprisingly little doom involved....lots of hushed atmosphere and nice female vox. 'twood fit nicely on a metal album (or in this case, metalite) to fall to sleep to....not that that's nec a bad thing. Lots of artists in this category....thinking also of former gathering vocalist extraordinaire, Anneke van Giersbergen or WITR collaborator, Yianna Bekris's project Vouna.

  20. I've been checking out Hallas How's the 40th ae? Love the original album. I've been checking out that Hallas album as well, but I haven't grabbed it yet.
  21. Sounds like something I might like-I mean if TG F bombs the album and the Notorious GG thinks it's worthwhile, how can I pass that up?!#$%
  22. Motorhead/1916 Dinosaur Jr./Sweep It Into Space Succumb/XXI Concilivm/A Monument in Darkness-I don't need to own this, but it is a devastating listening experience Skumstrike/Deadly Intrusions Wolfbrigade/Run With the Hunted Wolfbrigade>Skumstrike
  23. I've never actually listened to St. Anger, and I used to so love 'Tallica, saw them on their AJFA tour. Doubt I'll ever feel the need to listen to the album. That ship has sailed.
