Curious Hungarino, are you driving both on your Dragonfly or do you have a dedicated amp/DAC? I understand the HD6XX need some juice.

    Aloha Mark!

Hope the east coast is treating you well.

I do use the Dragonfly, or a small portable amp, or a dongle for both, but Meze's do not need much.

We've talked about this before, but I've been meaning to get a side grade medium-fi reasonably portable option, but mostly for home use that pairs well with metal and rock ($200-400) as an alternative to my IEM's. I've got my "nice" Audeze HP's that I keep in a dedicated rig, so just looking for something that's more low profile or at least plug and play into my Draggonfly USB DACa/amp that I use with my laptop and potentially portable with an Ipod/music player.

    I'm considering. :

    • Bowers & Wilkins P7 Wired (lowest profile of the bunch)
    • Hifiman Sunandra
    •  Sennheiser  HD 660, 650 or Sennheiser 6XX(not low profile)
    • Meze 99 (not low profile)-I know Navy is a fan of these

If anyone has experience with any of these, holler!

Meze's are a treat to my ears! Warm, rich and surprisingly light.

I have Drop's HD6XX and they are the other side of the coin - open back, very detailed, expansive, precise, and defined layers of sound.

I probably lean to the Meze's more. Comfort food for your earholes.

I recently upgraded to the Wiim Pro for my setup and have the same positive report. One I have connected to a SMSL SU1 DAC in the vintage system, but I'm not sure it's really needed (but $80 bucks why not). The other directly feeds my Edifier S1000 mkiii. Solid upgrades with an easy to use app and native Roon support for about $150 each. Finally ditched the troublesome Raspberry Pi units I used with much effort for years.

Also moved my server over to a NUC unit running Roon core. Finally got my library under control and down to just under 2TB. Easier to upgrade in the future and much more stable than the Pi based server. Sound quality isn't a huge change but ease of use is immensely improved.

Currently looking at potentially updating the vintage system. Thinking of replacing both 1970's era Marantz' to something new with better features and less maintenance. Looking at the Rotel A11 or A12, Yamaha AS-801, NAD 3050, or maybe splashing the cash for a Buchardt.

The Arylic was a great intro and I have since upgraded to the Wiim Pro Plus. Got it on sale for $175 on a black Friday deal.

Ether from router to the wiim, coax to my Edifier S3000 pros, awesome app that I use to play my Tidal all the way to hi-res and mqa quality.

Wiim pro plus meets the hype in terms of DAC, app functions including eq and sound quality settings, and full functionality of Tidal favorites and Playlist. This set up is end game and what I was looking for in terms of easy access and control, good remote, and connectivity. Unlocks the S3000s to full potential for deep clean base, tight, clear separation and detail throughout. Loud enough that we can hear the bass thumping from three houses over.

Very happy with this. If bandcamp can just make a compatible app I will really be set.

  4. Here is some goat juice to rinse the Tomb Mold taste out of your mouth!

Dele Et Vinces | Blasphemous Division (bandcamp.com)

No prisoner black war thrash assault from Peru!

Just messing around the Tomb Mold is to me obviously excellent, but for me it's a sit back and analytically pick the parts that are good vs. listening and being mindlessly compelled to pump fists and bang head. Sometimes, most times, you just have to let the goats run wild!

  5. Vile Ritual - Caverns of Occultic Hatred

Perfect words to describe these sounds!

Grafvitnir - Into the Outer Wilderness

Love these guys they always deliver icy Swedish black with no BS

    Ekpyrosis - Primordial Chaos Restored

Italian DM that I always liked but they split up

Maze of Terror - The Night Where the Evil Prevails

Peruvian balls-to-the-wall black speed thrash. Fun times and this one is a horror movie themed album. Pretty sure this is the millionth time that has been done but who cares its good stuff.

  6. Pretty quiet around here but here are a few new purchases:

    Awesome new additions:

IKKO OH300 IEMs. A budget IEM to be sure but instantly my favorites. Detail, stage, imaging, tuning- all really nice. Trend to the clear and bright side, but not overly so.

Arylic S10 Streamer thing. Attaches to internet and wired to speakers with an app so I can easily play music on my powered speakers, controlled by my phone but not over wi-fi. This thing is great. Super easy to set up, control and unlocks ridiculous tonality, especially base, that I did not even know my speakers could handle. Really nice little device that was cheap enough for my budget hifi aspirations.

    Not awesome:

Ifi Go dongle dac/amp. Not strong enough of an amp for HPs, not needed for iems. Decodes MQA which is why I got it, but Tidal dropped MQA. Has a nasty crackle at times, gets hot. Sounds fine but my smaller DAC dongle sounds just as good. Not offensively bad and sounds good when not crackling, but not needed anymore.

They're just little kids! But the record's not bad at all. A bit too polished maybe, they didn't leave too many rough edges. Promising though, they seem to have no problem coming up with riffs.

At the very least the other kids at their middle school should be impressed. The kid on the left is my hero look at that battle jacket.
