Wo Fat - The Singularity, took FA's and Navy's suggestion and started my day with KJ-S/T, and now moving on to this one with the pretty cover that Marky Mark mentioned as one of his '22 favorites the other day. Gotta be honest I'm getting pretty bored with this 30 minutes in, not sure if I'll be able to hang with these Texans for another 45. It's serviceable stoner rock, nothing really wrong with it, but it doesn't really have the juice or pack the same punch as the top notch stoner bands bring.
 
King Buffalo ‎- Dead Star, guess while I'm stoning it up here this morning I might as well check out this other stoner band Mark & Jon-boy have been gushing about. (that's just a joke guys, I know you stopped well short of gushing) Jesus Fucking Christ you guys are nuts, this record is more boring than watching paint dry. I can feel myself aging waiting for it to be over. 3/10. Maybe if I was actually stoned I could get into it? Not gonna do that because we have to go to my sisters for stupid turkey day in a couple more hours here. Guess I dIdn't know how good I had it with the Wo Fat. Sorry guys, no hard feelings, but I'm gonna have to put your boys King Buffalo in the bites the big one category.
 
Circus of Power - Vices, NY 1990, alright then guess I'll just have to time travel back and enjoy an old favorite from the year my daughter was born.

My wife put some Pandora station on in the living room and we've got Journey echoing through the house and it's making my jaw ache.

Ranking the top 8 KJ albums is super tough. I switch around every few months, but I'd put Hosannas, What's this, Pylon, and Democracy in that order... today. Could easily swap 4 - 8 on any given day though.
King is the weakest link in both of his bands. I've grown to deal with his vocals because the music is just so damn good. He's had 2 of the best backing bands ever. I mean Hank Sherman, Andy LaRocque, Timi Hansen, Mikkey Dee, Michael Denner, Mike Wead, now Joey Vera. You just don't get much better than that.

(the year with Celtic Frost, Motorhead and Emperor), had a stereo with him and a load of tapes and was blasting bal sagoth on it on the train. I asked him what else he had with him to listen. Only the entire bs discog and nothing else.

Yeah your top three there and What's THIS for...! would round out my top 5. Don't know which order I'd put them in but definitely big yellow on top. I like Pylon a lot too.

That's the Dave Grohl on drums quasi garage rock album. Pretty damn cool. Definitely top 5 in their discography IMO. Don't think it tops the debut, Absolute Dissent, or Night Time so I guess I'm putting it at 4.

I feel like I've been paying minimal attention to 2022 metal with minimal focus. Yet, still end up with a few albums. Small for me get so far, but the December list blitz has yet to smack me upside the head.

I'm no audiophile, I like what I like and I wouldn't try and convince anyone that what I have is better than them, but there is something about the sound from these old amps. However for me it's probably more about nostalgia. These amps and projects like them are what got me interested in electronics which got me into sound and lights, being able to use something I made so long ago today is a feeling any new amp just can't replace.

I'm totally down for vintage gear. Matter of fact I would prefer it. My favorite piece of gear is my '75 Marantz 2240b. Just can't imagine an amp I would prefer over it. My streamers are of course new gear, speakers are too. CD player and dac would need to be for reliability reasons. Speakers and amps though, 59 year old stuff is generally better or at least as good as anything made today and generally looks better. Prices are unfortunately equivalent though.

I've still never heard this band The Gathering you guys sometimes talk about. So I just dialed them up. Imagine my surprise when I heard a dude growling at me. 8 minutes in now and where the hell are the lovely female vox?

OK I gave up on that one from '92 when I saw on M-A that she only joined the band in '94. So let's try another one: 
The Gathering - How to Measure a Planet? 1998...Oh. This is not good at all. Guess that explains why I never heard of them. But how did this get a 91 on M-A?!? Those scores have gotta be rigged I tell ya.
 

Another band I'd throw into that DT category that I mentioned in another thread. Tom G can do no wrong. I like Cold Lake too. Wish he hadn't disavowed it but just been like "fuck yeah we did that, so what". Probably wasn't his idea in the first place though so it was easier to discard. I did see scuttlebutt somewhere that there's the possibility of another Triptykon album in the next few years. Don't remember where I saw that, but I'm completely down for it.
Never got to see CF, but I did catch Triumph of Death at MDF this year (and have them on the agenda for Hell's Heroes next year) and they played a few of the classics. Just fucking crushing live. Course, it didn't hurt that Jamie Lee Cussigh (aka Slaughterwytch) is one of the hottest bass players I've been lucky enough to see live. She's smoking and of course was playing a Rick which of course is consistent with Navy Commandment #1 & 2. 1) Chick bass players rule. 2) Any band with a bass player on a Rick is going to slap.
