Silicon is easier to clean, too. Frequent cleaning is super important. I used to reuse foam earplugs for band practice... big mistake... ugh. Nothing beats finishing up a mix with one ear plugged up. The silicon ones with the flanges were probably my favorites, both for phones and plugs. I'm back to using the drugstore cheapie plugs at practice and shows these days, but I toss them as soon as I'm done.

I was comparing some iems then figured I would include a couple of hps and was surprised at the initial drop off of detail and depth when switching to hps until I adjusted correctly for power/volume. iems and hps are definitely different animals, to state the obvious.
Of course then I got to playing with the iem tips, another rabbit hole, and am finding that the silicon actually irritate less than the foam. This after going through all kinds of different foams to find the best. I will end up with about a zillion of each, but at least they are cheap and most came free with the iems.
My final humbling experience of the morning was nearly returning my new Moondrop Arias (on sale for $61) because the $15 pair of 7hz Zeros sound freakin' amazing. I know a lot of people probably eschew budget iems, but to my ears these things really sparkle and shine, so much that I questioned why I should keep the Arias. I finally convinced myself that the different signatures for different kinds of music justify keeping them. Now I just have to be sure to include hps more in the rotation otherwise they are just collecting dust.

It truly never ends. Just when I've got everything I need, something has to be replaced or fixed. Bluetooth connections over LDAC sound great when they're working properly though, and aptX sounds totally acceptable too. I hated Bluetooth for years because all I ever heard was through that shitty SBC codec, which devices still default to if they can't talk to each other some other way.
Having said that, my pair of MDR-7506 sound just as good as they ever did, and I bet my old pair would too, if my son hadn't spilled a full cup of miso soup on them. RIP.
I found that in-ears irritated my ear canals worse the longer I used them. Even tips that seemed comfortable would still wind up bugging me. And then there was wax buildup, and I never found a pair that would truly stay put for enjoyable listening while I was walking or exercising. Always fiddling with the damn things. I had some decent ones over the years too, a pair of Shures, a nice-sounding pair of Monsters, some Sennheisers... There was great detail and intimacy to the sound, under the right conditions, but so not worth the trouble for me.

Mortiis is most likely in there because of his tie to Emperor and there was a time they would include someone's side projects into the Archives even if they weren't metal..this was way early on from what I can tell (Mortiis was added back in 2002).
Other people have tried to push for Bodycount with claims they're either a metalcore band, or as Dead said, a crossover band, but the responses from mods is almost universally that they're more hardcore than metal (checked a couple of the appeal threads)

Yeah, the internet seems to think it's either them, or a punk band called the Germs from LA. This Lexicon Devil EP is from May '78 but they also had a single out in '77 that was maybe a little less hardcorish. As with any new sub-genre it's hard to know exactly where to draw the line between what was punk and what was hardcore. I'm sure there were other bands in the mix as well that have been largely forgotten because they just didn't get any recordings out there. I was in high school from '76 to '79 and I wasn't aware of any of these bands at the time, I only knew the Ramones, the Pistols, the Dead Boys and the Clash.
DC's Bad Brains formed in 1976, but I believe they were playing some kind of a jazz fusion at first going by the name of Mind Power and then switched to playing hardcore later, taking their name from the Ramones song Bad Brain (1978) Even though they wouldn't describe themselves as a hardcore band because they have wide ranging influences like jazz and raggae, I think most of the rest of the punk world considers them one of the earliest notable hardcore bands. But they did't get an album out til '82, and by that time hardcore was already a well established sub-genre.

The Germs - Lexicon Devil EP 1978

SS - Coca Cola, 1978 Japan Raw Hardcore Punk/Noise Punk. Then there were these guys SS briefly over in Japan who broke up in 1979.

The Clash - The Clash, UK 1977, first two Clash albums were better before they went all commercial. Not that I really mind their more commercial stuff.

The Clash - Give 'Em Enough Rope, 1978

I think it's the best of the three albums they released last month and the weird thing is that I find the shortest song Lava (6:40) is the one that drags on the most. I don't think that makes sense but it's the truth. However when it comes to my favourite release from this year it's actually Omnium Gatherum which was released earlier this year.
You're not wrong about increasing their output. They've been around something like 12 years and got 20 studio releases but including live releases that is somewhere up in the mid 30's, They've released 8 albums this year from memory.

What do you think? I bought it kinda randomly. Just picked one of the five they released this year. I dig that they do lots of different stuff on each release, but I think I'm at critical mass with my KG collection. Out of the 6-7 albums I have, I'm still unsure that each new one really adds anything new to the conversation. Don't get me wrong, I like them and they're phenomenal live, but it's past the point of overload with the volume of new music they release. I'd say the same for OSees (OC's, Thee Oh Sees, whatever they're going by next) but they seemed to have slowed down their output in the past couple of years whereas KG just seems to be getting ramped up.

I much prefer my [old] Senn HD200s for comfort from all of my cans and I also prefer to listen to my system instead of cans.  That being said, for blutooth IE headphones, the Sony XM4s I like, except for the bulk which makes me insecure they will fall out.  They sound really good though.

I have owned a few Etymotics and those, despite all the hype were just intolerable imo.  The most uncomfortable POSs and absolutely the thinnest sounding cans I've ever heard.

That's a pretty good deal on a very respectable set of cans. Give them a chance to break in and look into the Brainwavz earpad upgrade to make them a tad more comfy (improves the bass and midrange some too). I've always thought they sound great straight from the source (no amp) but ymmv. And they are definitely built for life. Can't understand how they can sell them for so little money. I'd really like to try some of their other cans, but alas the prices increase exponentially and I just can't imagine that much of an upgrade for the amount I actually use them (headphones in general) being worthwhile.
I use both but have to agree. If OTE's weren't impractical for most of my uses, I would never have another set of iems.

I'm getting a little Motorhead in there too. Meh, it's ok. Death Magnetic and the last one had enjoyable moments, but nothing to rekindle the past. This won't either, but at least it's passable and better than what any of the other legacy thrash bands have put out in recent memory. I'm sure they'll sell a billion copies.

    Decent if unremarkable.
Band name always makes me think of a goat tarted up in 1980s Sunset Strip hooker attire - miniskirt, fishnets, red high heels, too much bad makeup and a 1980s hairdo.  No doubt that mental image has got the goat metallers erect!

Wow, I am kind of the opposite I guess. I discovered IEMs about a year ago and can't get enough. I do keep the volume low and am pretty meticulous getting to right tips.
Bluetooth is now just about in the hi-fi realm for audio quality right? Soon all our wired gear will be pointless, and there will be more must have things to buy. It never ends does it?
