Samael and Tiamat were contemporaries. Both formed in 1987. Samael got their first EP out in 1988 with Medieval Prophecy, but Tiamat was the first to get a proper full length out (Sumerian City - 1990). Samael came in a year later with their full length Worship Him - 1991.
 

Elegant Gypsie > Casino, but you can't go wrong either way.

Samael - Blood Ritual (1992) - Often overlooked for being much cleaner in production but I think it works really well with this almost blackened doom style.  Paired back from the debut to the point of being almost basic but still a thoroughly enjoyable black metal album.
Malevolent Creation - The Ten Commandments (1991) - I battle with Malevolent Creation if I am honest, probably because I came to them late and therefore they have offered very little colour to my already well established death metal palette.  Nothing wrong with this one though, plays as a thrashy Floridian dm record.
Civerous - Maze Envy (2024) - Stupid album name aside, this is a bit of a patchy release overall.  Album highlight Shrouded in Crystals is bookended by two instrumental tracks which smacks of filler straight away just 3 tracks in (on a 7 track release).  There's promise here though, just not very well represented on this canvas however.

I agree. I warmed up to it more after I saw them live, too, whatever it feels like it's "missing" on the recording came through well onstage.

Yeah I've seen Obit a few times and have never been disappointed.
 
Obituary - Dying of Everything, 2023, pretty good for a buncha old men in their 50's.
 
Obituary - Darkest Day, 2009. I almost always go with one of the first two or World Demise, I've gotta start working some of these middle/later albums into the rotation. This one's not truly spectacular or groundbreaking, but it's perfectly serviceable.

....WhiteNoise....I have indeed seen them...several times.....RoadBurn back in 2017 or 2018 was probably the most recent time I saw them....didn't get to see them last year when they toured because I got sick the day before the show and couldn't make it....RoadBurn was great that year but I think when I saw them at This Is Hardcore, they fuckin smoked....I know they played MDF, but I never saw them there.....haven't been to MDF in a while.....

Helloween - Keeper I & II

Witch Vomit - Funeral Sanctum, Portland Oregon. This new one will officially drop Friday. First impression: sounds good but the songwriting is nothing special. I'm only half paying attention though, I'll have to give it another go again tomorrow.
 
Torture Rack - Primeval Onslaught, Portland Oregon 2023. This one's a bit better.
 
 

Frustratingly it's less than 3 hours from where I live and yet I know in advance that I will never have the time to go. But if you're in the region maybe we could meet up. My friend the bass player loved it this past year, I think she said Dødheimsgard was in her top ten shows ever.

Saw them about the time this came out with Cattle Decap and Cannibal Corpse. Needless to say they were the weakest band on the bill but still very enjoyable. Show was even on my birthday. Nice of them I think.
