  1. And so they should. The whole Arthurian schtick is deeply and drearily Christian. If you say so, but a 16 minute crust song is just too much of a 'good' thing. But my ears say it's just repetitive and boring. Well played! And since I have declared myself an anti-dreary absolutist I will have to come up with an alternative word for it or admit that there is bad dreary (a three chord crust song going on and on at tedious and pointless length) and then there good dreary (exquisitely timed musicianship and maintaining an anticipation of change that may not come). Bugger. I'm going to listen to my collection of the not-at-all-dreary-but-something-else-I-haven't-found-the-word-for-yet recordings of WALK THROUGH FIRE this morning while I contemplate this. I may be away for some time.
  2. Dreary can't be the point. Dreary is never a virtue and it's not well done, that's the point. It's soulless and the long songs don't say crust to me. We will agree to disagree, though. Yer S.D.S is just 'orrible and I am sure that's what you expected me to say but at least the songs are short and to the point.
  3. Really? I found it dreary. Nothing happens that we don't expect and that we haven't heard 1000 times before, and at such dreary length. I am in a critical mood, maybe - I just tried listening to VEMOD - The Deepening. I don't like being mean to people who have tried their best, but this is a dreary effort too. And, if you present us with a long song with the bass drum upfront then watch the tempo dudes - if the drummer can't keep it together then there is no shame in using a machine - live no one will be able to tell. Also today - FURIA - Huta Luna. I enjoyed this, including the long ambient track at the end but the folk singing went on a bit long at the end of it.
  4. Thanks for the heads up. there is a lot of interesting stuff there. With Dev it's Ocean Machine, Terria and Ki for me. I'm into the third track. Oh. it's clever stuff but in the end it's neither one thing nor the other. A bit of metal, a bit of screamo, a bit of King Crimsonesque guitar, the bloody trumpet. Nah, I'm out.
  5. Sunny after a lot of rain here, and that is a really nice playlist. NP - FOUR TET - Live at Alexandra Palace, 24th May 2023
  6. It's just not a word I expected you to use, but I don't own it. If that was literally true then I would, but nah. Not to my knowledge. SAEVUS FINIS - Facilis Descensus Averno. Fuck Latin. ONDFØDT - Det Österbottniska Mörkret. Fuck Norwegian too.
  7. There's some great album art here, and probably some great music. I will check some of these out over the next few days. This is a good list because it's not too long. Keep up the good work, GG. Refine.😉
  8. MORNE - Engraved With Pain. markm's post reminded me that I own this album and I listened again. I can hear why I forgot about it. It is not monotonous - it's better than that - maybe the word I want is monomorphic. It's all one colour and the songs merge into each other with nothing in particular standing out. Good not great By way of contrast :- WORN MANTLE - Hole. If I'd come across this album earlier it would have been in my 2023 Top 13. Big angry sound, tons of riffs, excellent nasty vocals. The sound of the savage crack of the snare drum is just about perfect. Two long songs but there is no effort required to maintain interest. There is a lot happening, and unlike in the MORNE, tons of light and shade. In two words, Thatguy approved.
  9. Yeah (all good albums), but nah (none of them made my list). 😉
  10. Woohoo! And before the end of January. I will check out your top 10, but maybe not the top 25. And I don't hate the VERMINOUS SERPENT. I'm just kind of indifferent to it.
  11. ASUNOJOKEI - Awakening TEMPLE KOLUDRA - Seven! Sirens! To A Lost Archetype
  12. It's true that it's a more entertaining album than your aoty

    👋

Ozzy as in Osborne, Ozzy as in Oswald, Ozzy as in Aussie or just Ozzy as in a silly name?
  14. BURIAL HORDES - Ruins IMPERIALIST - Zenith
  15. You'll find something else for aoty before you finalise your list...
  16. It's not that it's a bad album, but the tempos and general feel are much the same in every song. It drags on with only a few moments of higher energy. The long last song was great for about 30 seconds but went back to the pattern of the others and dragged on and on to its demise. Not enough pay off for the time and effort. It's not adventurous, it's not cathartic, it's not fun. It's warm and fuzzy I guess if all you want from music is more of the same. It is music for old metal biddies. I prefer durif to merlot. There's more to it than to shiraz or the merlot.
  17. PRIMITIVE MAN - Immersion IHSAHN - After. I don't much care for his more recent albums, but I still think this one is a cracker.
  18. Thanks . I had presumed there was nothing there. And you have out smart-arsed me, Macabre.
  19. Thatguy approved, whatever genre we want to call it. GOJIRA - From Mars To Sirius CLERIC - Serpent Psalms
  20. Well, mate. (and you'd have to hear me say it to know which mate that is - it is the warm you are my actual mate, mate), enjoy your shiraz and I will enjoy my merlot. I know only a few of my picks are BM and I know you don't agree even with them, but if Rorcal and Taake ain't BM then I'll go back to shiraz. Crack on yerself, GG and I look forward to your very long list.
  21. There are any number of great SA wines I agree. I like a merlot and rosé has its place as an alternative to a refreshing beer on a hot day. As with music, taste in wine is a very individual matter. GOJIRA - Magma
