I think it warrants a second view and I want to do it as a double bill. I bet if you do that you won't think it is too short! They couldn't continue with all the characters - too confusing. My wife - who has not read the book and has no interest in science fiction - had no real idea who anyone was and her overall take was it looked good but too much fighting.
The daughter who hasn't read the book either but who likes fantasy and science fiction enjoyed it and understood it well enough. The son and his wife thought it was a 5 out of 5.
I first read the book when I was 14 and it blew my little mind. I haven't re-read it for many years. I don't think the storyline was significantly altered - true, the timespan was compressed and I would have like to have seen Alia as a creepy grandfather killing toddler (but 2024 is probably not up for that). There was not enough weird mysticism and I think Paul's visions of the future and how he was forced to mould his fate could have been explored more deeply and clearly. And riding sandworms is intrinsically weird and a bit silly but was done as well as could be. Still looks silly though.
Yeah, baby
Maybe. I've just started on it and so far - good production, I like the vocals, there is some variation in tempo and orchestration, no choir. We'll see how it goes.
Later...nah, it's a bit too one dimensional.
You'd have to define prog in a way I agreed with to sustain that argument, but let's not go there.
We can agree that Chaowhatever are shit.
Father Befouled are perfectly acceptable and Convocation are a step above most of the low-fi gems you post. Oops, there's the choir - totally spoils the first track. The rest is a bit tedious - and there's more choir. Nah, yer man needs a full band to tell him fuck off we're not playing that.
They are from Canberra too!
That's like saying something can't be sweet but spicy...and many other analogies that I could go on and on about.
As far as this album goes I agree with the Cabbage that the art work is very bad and his write up told me I wouldn't like the music. But I had to listen, didn't I, after you put up the link. I wish I hadn't. No redeeming features.
PoiL Ueda - Yoshitsune. The only thing like this is the first part of this collaboration . This was released later in 2023 and I hadn't got around to it until now. A stunning work or art.
I have never understood why you hate Gojira so much. But there is much in life I don't understand.
Dick.
There's nothing wrong with a bit of whispering. I never thought Mörkö would be your thing although some of their albums sound crappy enough to perhaps appeal to you.
Yeah, well, to me it's just a continuation of his recent albums but with more symphonic writing. And as such I found it as uninteresting as them. He's really talented and I really enjoy some of his older stuff so I always listen to what he is offering in the hope that it will engage me more like that did. Alas, no.
I will give this a listen...
Oh dear this is tedious. Mr Yorke's whiney voice is tolerable in the right context. This is not it.
