  1. According to their MA page, only the vocalist in Skaphe is from Iceland (the guitarist/vocalist from Misþyrming), the rest of the guys are all Americans. So I guess technically they're an international project, but mostly American.
  2. A lot of talk about USBM and not one mention of Alex Poole and his various works, which are honestly some of the better American black metal projects. Chaos Moon Gardsghastr Häxanu Skáphe Ringarë
  3. Okay well now I'm realizing that I've got way more German BM than I thought I did. I just forgot or didn't know that a bunch of these bands were from Germany haha. Thanks for the rec's though!
  4. Alright well I'd say it's time to get this thread back on track... I've noticed that my black metal collection is rather lacking in German bands so I'd love remedy that and hear get German BM recco's. Most of the BM stuff from Germany that I've heard I have really liked. I love Nagelfar, they're one of my all time fav's and I've got stuff from Totenwache, Farsot, Dauþuz, Evil Warriors and a few others, all of which I quite enjoy.
  5. Darkspace - III Darkthrone - A Blaze In The Northern Sky Trhä - lhum jolhduc
  6. Asagraum - Dawn of Infinite Fire Totenwache - Der Schwarze Hort
  7. Yeah when I say "caveman" death metal I'm specifically referring to Maggot Stomp records (who proudly tout themselves as "caveman shit for neanderthals") and the bands associated with that style/label. Stuff like 200 Stab Wounds, Frozen Soul, Fluids and the massively overhyped golden boys... Sanguisugabogg.
  8. A lot of modern slam is actually a lot closer to hardcore than most deathcore is. Same with the new wave of "caveman" death bands. It's weird how the death metal purists give slam and the caveman stuff a free pass but deathcore is still for posers for some reason.
  9. Abigor - Nachthymnen (From The Twilight Kingdom)
  10. Discharge - Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing Evil Warriors - Fall From Reality
  11. "Me play Nazi music to piss off neighbor". Lol, what a little badass you are.
  12. Acathexis - S/T Gaahls Wyrd - The Humming Mountain
  13. New Midnight track is solid. I caught them live a number of years back and was blown away. Immediately bought a couple of their albums afterwards and was...... not blown away at all lol. Some bands just don't crush it in the studio the way they do on stage.
  14. Shit, don't know how I didn't notice this until now lol, sorry. I have been enjoying my BAN deep dive immensely and they've actually climbed the ranks to being one of my favourite bands in the past six weeks or so. As far as standouts and highlights go, the Memoria Vetusta album trilogy is still my favourite work from them, especially MVII. I have been really digging the 777 albums a lot too though, especially "Sect(s)". The Work Which Transforms God is great also. I don't think there's another band in all of black metal who can do both melodious/atmospheric and avant-garde styles equally well. Truly a special project. NP: Panzerfaust - The Suns of Perdition II: Render Unto Eden
  15. I mean yeah..... I thought it was a pretty commonly held belief among black metal fans that black metal is more about atmosphere than riffs. Like, that should just go without saying. And I certainly don't look for intensity or brutality in black metal either. That's what death metal is for.
  16. Anyone calling black metal thin, toothless or lacking intensity, isn't listening to the right black metal.... I've never heard a single thrash band with this kind of intensity, though I 100% expect Dead to claim otherwise 😉lol.
  17. Yeah well Quebec is pretty much THE epicenter for nationalism and racism in Canada so it's black metal scene being full of sketchy dirtbags is the least surprising thing in the world. Blut Aus Nord - Fathers of The Icy Age Nagelfar - Virus West
  18. Lol, I literally just came here to post that Nocturnal Triumph album. Great stuff! My first purchase of 2022.
  19. Keepin it old school this evening... Tormentor - Anno Domini Master's Hammer - Ritual Darkthrone - A Blaze In The Northern Sky
  20. Hunters Moon - The Great Pandemonium (2021) A late-year gem that I completely missed. Really great stuff!
  21. The Ruins of Beverast - Rain Upon The Impure
  22. Nagelfar - Srontgorrth Sivyj Yar - From The Dead Villages' Darkness
  23. Sinira - The Everlorn Sorhin - I det Glimrande Mörkrets Djup
  24. Wiegedood - There's Always Blood at the End of the Road (Black Metal) I dug their first couple albums then kinda lost touch with them. The new tracks sound promising. Less second wave-y and little more modern/dissonant sounding. Releases Jan 14. Véhémence - Ordalies (Black Metal) New Vehemence album on the way. I really liked their last album and they're one of the better bands doing the melodic, folky "medieval" black metal thing these days. Releases March 8.
  25. Odium - The Sad Realm of the Stars
