My brother gave me Tilt (the album this is off for those who don't know) for my 40th birthday. I listened to it - and this is the first track - for the first time as I was driving from Newcastle to Sydney as the sun set and as bushfires burned on one side of the road. My brother died some years ago now.
As you can imagine, apart from this being a great piece of music, it has so many deep and emotional associations for me and like the best music reaches beyond the rational.

''Μνήμα'' (pronounced mniee-ma) means "Tomb" in Greek. "Καταραμένα Λείψανα" is "Cursed Relics." Unfortunately in their ambition to sound 'raw' they've completely ruined this album and rendered it unlistenable. I generally love diy underproduced stuff for the most part, but in this case I just hear static. Can't even hear the vocals to see if they're comical. Worthless garbage.

Bafomet - Baptized In Goat Blood, killer punky blackened speed metal from Japan 2023. So good, even the clean vocals on track 3 don't phase me. No doubt I'll be coming back to this one daily for awhile.

Samael - Blood Ritual (1992) - Often overlooked for being much cleaner in production but I think it works really well with this almost blackened doom style.  Paired back from the debut to the point of being almost basic but still a thoroughly enjoyable black metal album.
Malevolent Creation - The Ten Commandments (1991) - I battle with Malevolent Creation if I am honest, probably because I came to them late and therefore they have offered very little colour to my already well established death metal palette.  Nothing wrong with this one though, plays as a thrashy Floridian dm record.
Civerous - Maze Envy (2024) - Stupid album name aside, this is a bit of a patchy release overall.  Album highlight Shrouded in Crystals is bookended by two instrumental tracks which smacks of filler straight away just 3 tracks in (on a 7 track release).  There's promise here though, just not very well represented on this canvas however.

Couch Slut is great live. Saw them in a small dungeon of a club with Imperial Triumphant last year.
Little different styles. Tiamat started as a death/doom outfit and Samael was black metal, but they do have some similarities. Also Tiamat hails from Sweden, Samael from Switzerland. Not sure how much interplay they had to influence each other, but it's definitely possible. Interestingly, they had similar career arcs moving towards a more electronic sound far from where they originated.
If you dig that sound, this might be up your alley. One of my favorites along the lines of very early Samael.

I concur, Slowly We Rot #1, CoD #2. For whatever reason I happen to really like World Demise and put it at #3.

Obituary - Dying of Everything, 2023, pretty good for a buncha old men in their 50's.
 
Obituary - Darkest Day, 2009. I almost always go with one of the first two or World Demise, I've gotta start working some of these middle/later albums into the rotation. This one's not truly spectacular or groundbreaking, but it's perfectly serviceable.
 

Suffering Hour - The Cyclic Reckoning - not as good as their first, but still a solid record
Of Feather & Bone - Sulfuric Disintegration - fucking grind into oblivion
Stygian Obsession - Form is Void - never seen anything else by these dudes but this crushes
Cruz - Culto Abismal - another crushing one off (for me anyway)
