As I do sympathize with musicians and artists who are trying to make money from their craft, and think its sad no one will buy your 10 -15 cd, mp3 or mp4s, that can last virtually forever, people will buy a your shirt for 20. This usually just helps larger bands who can tour on a tour.
I though it was strange he need3ed a whole studio also, but I thought well perhaps he would help out other smaller bands to get their stuff recorded as well.
I think Jari is just trying to get money from any platform because in this day an age people are making money form random things they do on pateron (I think the whole thing is dumb).
I understand his want to try to make this in to a living, but at the same time musicians are doing alot more with alot less and it feels insulting to most of us.
I do think encouraging people to buy music again would be helpful in all this, otherwise we may see more attempts of this.
People who want to make music will, but having income from it is nice. Music should never be about the money, but also its not good to never support the artist enjoy and is important to you also.

I dont think pateron or crowdfunding is the way to go at all.
 
 

Ah that's interesting, well the good thing about zines is that they can be made very cheaply, as interesting as the old school ones are now, i don't see them being as efficient for what they were meant for as the internet can be a easier and cheaper source of the information. But hey if something looks excellent and fun it may be something to get back into the metal genera. 

Yeah Cider is what I usually drink, though I have tried some fruity beer here and there. Once things get too sweet I either take a beer or switch to Red Wine ?
I visited Denmark once, but didn't get to try any alcohol there. Ill keep it in mind for next time. You may know that in Norway its common to visit Sweden cuz its so cheap, especially for alcohol. Not going near there though these days

Thats awesome I think hammer Dulcimers are also a good fit for some folk metal, I recently got a harp and just experimenting with it.

Wow thats really ironic, he is trying to "protect a culture" while harming someone whos part of it. You have every right to write about this especially having connections to the culture, and even if you did not have connections having an intensest in something doent make it bad. I personally would tell someone to choke on their own vomit if they tried to do this to me, and make more lyrics just to spite them. Metal is suppose to be rebellious, make it anyways.

I think the reason that women in metal are mostly associated with vocalists (despite the fact that there are women who do other things in bands) is that vocals are the only area in metal music where women would be noticeably different from men.  I don't think there is any reasonably basis to determine from the sound of a guitar or drums that the musician playing it must be a man or a woman - in fact, musicians of equal skill would be indistinguishable on the basis of gender from simply the sound of their playing.  For vocals, however, a woman would sound different from a man.

Maybe I'm too old skool, but I feel Cultural Appropriation is such a bullshit thing anyway, I mean surely that makes Iron Maiden like Racist or something right? they have songs about ancient Egypt, for example and I don't think they're Egyptian are they? I'm not out to offend anyone, but yeah I think if we had to worry about stuff such as this, well I couldn't use the name Sabazios as I'm not Phrygian... etc...

Well now that I know my favorite is the Viking Blood mead from Denmark. (Dansk Mjød is also the company name is and what it exactly is) They do a few different variety and some but this one is well deserving of the name, it also comes in a ceramic vessel instead of a glass bottle. Its my absolute favorite.

What metal and horror movies are for me is entertainment, fun and an escape from reality. Something I enjoy and takes my mind off my everyday worries/problems.
 
I know that may not sound like much but our tastes are a big factor in what defines a person. I have very specific tastes that are unpopular. None of my friends are into metal or horror movies. I'm also one of those people who hates almost everything new. I can't talk about entertainment with anyone I know and I'm really nerdy about it.
 
Also I'd say that metal is masculine, not because of lyrics, or growled vocals etc but the distortion itself. Just think, something like Mariah Carey is obviously very feminine. Not that there aren't women into metal, of course there are but I've always seen it as kind of a guy thing like an 80s action movie. You know how men always have their own guy thing they are into be it sports, videogames etc Mine has always been metal.
As weird as this is, I find it really hard to bond with other guys if they're not into metal or horror. Not much to talk about with them. And all of my friends are into rap which I do not like at all. Most of them I met through drinking and drugs even though I am sober now.

I used to use spotify regularly until they changed the way it operated. Now I default to YouTube if I'm on the go or my record player if I am at home. I definitely enjoy the ritual of going to the record store and to me there is no substitute for vinyl. However, to keep on topic, no I do not currently use spotify.

I don't use spotify, but I have people in my ear raving about it. One of them posts on this forum...
I'm just not up to date with the latest fancy things like this. I buy CDs and consider myself a collector, although I do tend to listen to youtube if I can't be bothered going up to grab the CD out of the collection. The thought of actually having a paid thing on my phone to listen to things is anathema to me. 
Still, it's clearly useful, and I'm thinking about it. I'm still somewhat resentful of the concept that we can listen to nearly everything that has ever been released without actually owning it. I know this isn't just the way of the future, but the way of the present, but damn I just don't know about it. 

I will either listen to songs on youtube, or simply purchase cds.  I much prefer owning a physical copy to simply streaming online.

I really hate Spotify. Bandcamp and YouTube are great for checking out new music. I buy music either through Bandcamp or (for physical purchases of stuff that isn't on BC) I'll look for CDs on themetaldetektor.com. I'll put CDs on in the car, or occasionally in my studio room, but mostly I buy digital or rip the albums and listen on my phone or computer.
