  1. Thanks for questioning me my assumption was wrong and your right they got mayhem's approval to do film. So at least they did that. They would have sued other wise I would guess. Your right it's an overly shocking portrayal for the purposes of I've no idea really as it's not based on reality as far I'm aware but it's based on that highly questionable book lords of chaos with some Hollywood make the story neat like they always do. I'll stick to the music ?
  2. Do you reckon they got mayhem's approval to do this movie or they just did it anyway. From what I read about in the press mayhem were pissed off that all this was being brought up again. What's learnt with this movie that we don't already know. Maybe I've got a closed mind but The music is the winner and that's the important bit for me.the cutting edge music that still inspires bands today.
  3. Great choice in sepultura arise. For me they peaked on that record. I like chaos ad and roots but not as much. So good a track is featured on Talladega Nights if I'm not mistaken.
  4. Welcome to the forum. Good luck with getting more chat about metal. I'm on hear for same reason. Most friends of mine won't talk metal period. also sorry to hear of the bullying but pleased that listening to metal music has helped you. What are your current favourites bands. Recent black metal album I got was korpi by kalmankantaja . I like it even though hardly ground breaking. Very relaxing music. ?
  5. Epicus is top album. After one listen on you tube after recommendation from gorbogorboze on this forum I got this and not disappointed. Now I've got a good recording it sounds very different. Definitely judus priest influence to this. What do others hear in this other than good quality doom of course. The high singing makes me think of Phil Anselmo cowboy from hell era, madness probably. I reckon they go on to better things but what a great start. Same here but the only album I have is epicus. Which do you prefer new one or epicus
  6. I know nothing about burzums music as not heard any of it but I know the early stuff is highly regarded from bands, fans and journalists who think the music is really fantastic .can anyone else elaborate. I assume after he was jailed for 20 years plus for that nasty murder of euronomous and the chapel burnings his popularity plummeted and never returned.i remember reading about that back in the day and I was shocked what had happened, no real easy answers to what happened but clearly things got very out of hand. Your a big fan aren't you balor burzum. Was it you who said the albums quality went down in prison because he was only allowed to play on keyboards. Did the album quality improve after release from prison when varg got to play with guitars again. Are burzum still serious players or have they sunk to the bottom. I can imagine after what's happened burzum really gets a divided opinion. What are other people's opinions of burzum and or varg.
  7. . For me Mettalica for too long have been surrounded by yes men. Alot of previous album's are not thrash anymore but could have been good hard rock albums with better edits of the songs and some times less songs on album like load album. I'm not only person who thinks this. I heard a few metal djs say it as have a load of rock and metal fans I've spoken too. My hope for mettalica would be that they give doing an old school album again a real go with this time not turning the bass really low like they did with justice for all. Get in a proper thrash producer. plus If they got Dave mustaine in he would not mince his words and they might do something special ?
  8. The first two albums are my favourite of there's to be honest. For me I love the way they mix death metal with prog and loads of other different genres in neat little flourishes ?plus the use of contrast is used to great effect between heavy and light sections, clean and harsh vocals in a unique way that's executed with perfection. It's a very eclectic album I really like but not one for purists who generally hate it. I also agree with you as for me this album was there high point. The albums to my ears afterwards were not as varied as this one but still good. I read that the band changed there style because of copy cat bands mimicking there style or they got bored and fancied a change. I also read that recreation of the early material live was very difficult and so they altered there style so they could get tighter live shows but im only going on what other fans have said on internet. They were still good album's after. Obviously that heritage album was a shock because it's so different to every thing they'd done before. I like you listened to it a few times but never really connected with it as losing the heavy bits and replacing it with meandering prog or whatever for all I heard meant they lost there unique opeth sound for me if that makes sense. Your right alot of there fans were a bit disappointed with this one.maybe like this ?????? Maybe they gained loads of new prog fans I don't know.
  9. Heard e album on you tube and sounded good. Will have a listen to other album's you mentioned as there a band who are mentioned slot. Thats great you still like them after all the years but probably helps that the core leadership stayed in tact or whatever it was that helped them keep there edge. Next time they play UK I may try and get tickets.
  10. I reckon if Lars and James apologised to Dave mustaine maybe he could help out one way or other in future. Times heals many wounds or whatever that wisdom was. Also making more use of Kirk hammet for next album surely must happen as last album was almost James and Lars solo project from what I read in press which is a shame as he's helped pen some great tunes. Am I way off on bigging up Kirk.?
  11. Great shout. Which was the opeth album which made you go you can not be serious. ?you used to be good. Nothings is happening of note on this album? obviously I don't get there music as loads of people think there great and play to packed venues but alot of fans must be thinking what the fuck is this.is this the same band who did those amazing metal music for loads of album's with one of my favourite metal growling singers. I think that's right term ?. I've tried a few times to listen to the prog music or whatever it's called and don't get it. Also what era was your favourite for them. Mine was first few album's with that progressive death metal counter point music (my term and probably not correct ?)
  12. Just heard candlemass's first album following your recommendation. Epicus doomicus metalicus or whatever it's called. Really good album will probably get a sneaky download without telling the wife ? Absolute classic and more eclectic than was expecting but in a good way but very much doom. Ive heard before metal was defined by tons of subgenres bands were a bit more eclectic in whaat styles they played. Am I way off on this? Also always assumed opeth had this very original sound but seems like they were inspired by the great candlemass as to me certain aspects of sections are similar.
  13. I read in metal hammer that after doing the Satanist nergal got bad writer's block apparently as result of how pleased he was with the Satanist. He just had no energy to create new metal music. He did that side project me and that man which from what I heard of it was ok but hardly amazing, did you hear that. not even sure of genre but it's not metal. By the time the current one was done alot of acdc was listened to which had an influence on the album. Metal hammer review as I remember was a good one but they said recommended if you like acdc. Obviously not you or no bast beats liked it and a fair few othera. I guess it was a change from there normal sound. Apparently theyve got loads of ideas for new album. I guess your hoping they will go back to there roots or hoping less acdc will be listened too
  14. Do you reckon Metallica could work with Dave mustaine again either as band member or producer of some kind or is this just crazy considering there history. Could be awesome though as loved the stuff Dave did with them. ???Drinks on me if it did?
  15. Your right re cliff buttons influence on mettalica. Seems like He really got them working really hard which probably helps explain there drop in form after his tragic death. It's again just my opinion and probably alot of others. Also found a very good master of puppets documentary on you tube. it's called hypnotizing power:the story of master of puppets. By Stuart kirwan. It's really good, watched about half of it so far. Would recommend if you've not seen it. Goes through how the album came about. Very interesting. Documentary might go some way to explain why they changed sound after justice album. Can't remember there words on documentary but something on line we make music we like period. Lars seeing guns n roses go massive must have got Lars thinking he wanted to be a megastar too and they even got appetite for destruction producer on justice album until James and Kirk said no way Lars?. After all the money they've made imo I am hoping they try seriously to do an old school album. Can't see they've got much to lose. But at least we've got the early album's. Oh yeahhhhh ?
  16. I have not heard most recent album but the reviews I read said album had too many songs, plus alot of the songs were too long otherwise, so I have not heard it having been disappointed by previous releases since mop album. Your right with Metallica that best thing would be for them to go back to the sound of mop album or even justice album. Not sure they don't go back to that sound because they can't or they won't. One crazy theory I have is as follows which I thought for decades now how much of a loss for the band was cliff burton when he tragically died. He did not have many writing credits that I'm aware of but was he a catalyst for getting the band to create great album's. ?
  17. I'm assuming new album will be heavier after reading studio interview with Ivar bjornson in metal hammer where he says there taking more direct approach this time. Just guessing really. In fairness was looking to give the e album a listen around release as was on alot of album's of the year lists but you tube blocked it so never did then forgot about it. prog and metal can work really well and early opeth I thinks great. With re to enslaved album's I know nothing about them but heard great things about them for a long time. Will definitely check out the favourites you listed. ?
  18. May have to check out god that failed again. ?Probably my main issue with black album is how polished it is. I mean for me it's still metal but very commercial metal. It's a very listenable album but it just does not feel like an album fitting of what Metallica were doing at there up until then. I know alot of other people have similar problems with it. Mind you album's changed even more after this one which made me bitter and annoyed. The country ballad mama said had me fuming. ? Can this be Metallica ?Saying all this I would fucking like to see them live again to hear all the old hits and best mate says they play mostly old classics for gigs but price of tickets is normally above what I'm willing to pay.
  19. Will have a look on the web and ask a few people. There certainly a big band for black metal. I know of them but know little of there music. Sounds like they've changed there sound a bit. Maybe they wanted to earn more money to live a more comfortable life. If anybody else has input for this that would be great.
  20. Ok since no one's responding to this I will put in one. 1) Metallica- when they released the black album they really alienated alot of there fans as changing there style from thrash metal to radio friendly hard rock/ or soft metal(my term ?) in an effort to be mega stars was one of the biggest ways to sell out, really piss off your fans and lose many of them in the process. I bought this album as my first metal album back in the day. On first listen I was like ok let's get there earlier stuff to hear propper metal ?I was not disappointed with puppets. On black album they made loads of cash but they lost alot of fans in the process. They were popular before the black album. My mate reckons they were high up on the bill at festivals but they wanted to be headlining and they changed alot to do that. If anybody has anything to add that would be good re Metallica or any other bands that did similar things to piss off and lose lots of there fans.
  21. I take it your excited because new album is going to be heavier and less proggy than last few album's.
  22. Ok thanks. Will you tube it first as it's got very polarised fan reviews and the track I heard was very different to previous album and i did not like it very much. Will listen again ? Just out of interest which tracks were your favourites it
  23. Yes trollfest. Great band although my knowledge of them is limited to helluva album which is very funny. Video for street Sarah is hilarious with a surprising father Ted TV show reference. Have you got there latest album.
  24. Will try and get some stuff then online from my favourite bands ?? Other reason I like buying at concert is that you know the money is going to the band direct where as online your not entirely sure who is pocketing the money. Also some times sites such as band camp drop charges for a bit and that can be a way to support your favourite bands.
  25. I've no idea why they went heavier. Could be what you previously said or perhaps they'd paid there mortgages off etc ? and they decided to risk it a bit by playing heavier. Whatever the reason Def looking forward to there next album. My dying bride also have a new one just being released which got great review in metal hammer UK magazine. So some really good music to look forward to.
