The Colorado Avalanche are actually my favourite team. They were very dominant in the late 90's/early 2000's and I hopped on the bandwagon then and stuck with them since. I hate Toronto with a burning passion haha.

You are correct that fighting originated in Hockey as a form of self policing. Particularly as a way for teams to protect their teammates, like if an opposing player takes a run (hit or body check) at a star player than that guy probably gonna get some punches thrown his way. So it's a deterrent more than anything. But the NHL implemented what's known as the instigator penalty, meaning that whoever is perceived to have started a fight on the ice gets an extra 2 minutes on top of his 5 minute fighting major. So anytime a fight occurs in most instances one of the two teams will be on a powerplay afterwards, and it's not in a players interest to knowingly make his team kill a penalty haha. The league also made it a rule that you cannot take your helmet off when you drop the gloves. These rules have proven to be quite effective in reducing fighting in the game.

Interesting what you say about why there's less fights in hockey. Tbh my opinion is those massive hits are not needed. Still amazing how couple of rule changes have resulted in much less fights.

Colorado avalanche were very good around that time.  I started watching some nhl games around 2000 as it was on alot on free to air tv. I'd seen some highlights videos when visiting family in USA that summer which got me interested as I'm from England. Who were your favourite players for Colorado.  I remember the goaltender Patrick Roy being rather excellent especially at not conceding many goals.(shutouts) Joe sakic, Peter forsberg were other  players I liked alot for there attacking play and goals.

Why do you dislike the maple leafs. They have not won Stanley cup since 1967 so it's not like they win much anymore or are that amazing. Is it there arrogant fans who keep boasting about those Stanley cups they won ages ago

  2. I was going to buy a transcending obscurity album but all the albums I want are not released yet. Just preview tracks. There stuff is free to end of June on band camp but still not found something I really like

Bought yob's album our raw heart. Which I'm liking. I'm liking mix of doom and stoner rock. Cover art is cool too with the 3d effect and all those eyes.

Yep, exactly the same for me!  Groove is my favorite metal subgenre, followed by thrash and traditional heavy metal.  Lately, I've been rocking out to Bullet - a Swedish classic-sounding metal band.  They've been around since 2006, but their music sounds like it's from the 80's.  Killer stuff.  Great guitar work and perfect vocals for the style.  The singer sounds like a mix of Brian Johnson and Udo, if you can picture that.  The band is criminally underrated.  If you get a chance, try their 2011 album "Highway Pirates".  My favorite Bullet album, and it's a blast to listen to.  Happy listening!

The name is amazing and right up my way of thinking. Highway pirates. Ohh ahhhh matey 😁 thanks for the recommendation. It's very catchy. Pleased you like it. If I was looking for classic rock I'd go for this but not for me at the moment . Vocal wise I agree it's mostly Brian Johnson with other influences in there. I'm hearing Bruce Dickinson in places particularly the snarl on a number of tracks, Cinderella Tom kiefer style vocals too and there was one track which reminds of deep purple highway star solo a bit which is cool as I like that track alot. Udo I will Google that. Udo?never heard of them

Mispyrming album Algleymi is worth a listen especially island steingelda track. It's kind of rock n roll meets metal. Vocals kind of remind bit of machine head rob Flynn

I've been listening to yob's album our raw heart. I still have not heard all of it but I'm liking it what Ive heard so far. It kind of reminds me of doom with some grunge  Chris Cornell in places too. Cool cover art too.  I want to listen to few tracks before I buy. I don't know about you but I've bought albums on the basis of a few tracks only to find there the only tracks I like and the rest is filler 🫣

Cats, man. We have two left and it looks like we might be saying goodbye to both of them really soon. Our younger, totally healthy-seeming cat just got stricken by some unknown ailment yesterday and now she appears to be dying. Stroke maybe? Can barely walk, doesn't want food or water, no balance, shallow breathing, curls up in a weird position with the top of her head pushed down onto the floor. Meanwhile our old, sick cat keeps getting older and sicker. The idea of putting them both to sleep is fucking heartbreaking. It might be the kindest thing. But I'm not ready.

It's rubbish father a re your cats. Losing both of them.  my mum's pony Rosie was fine one day and next day she could not stand. She was old.  It would have required surgery to unblock her digestive system but due to her advanced years the vet said kindest thing was the bullet and they were keen to do it. Rosie the pony was given lots of tranquilizers so she was very relaxed. My mum went for the huntsman who did what was necessary and took her  away.  All happened in a day. We were all shocked.

When a pet dies it can be so sad. We get so close to them. I've certainly cried over putting pets to sleep. Certainly holding them down while they get the needle from the vet sucks.

I'm thankful I don't get gastro that often. The last time we copped a dose was about 8 years ago, we were on a family holiday in Perth, 2 days before we were due to drive the 4000ks home we all copped it. It's terrible at any time but when you're faced with the prospect of still having it linger with you as you set out for a 4 day road trip you spend your day hoping like hell you'll get better before leaving. Even though no one can hear you scream in the outback it's not a place you want to be parked on the side of the road shitting through the eye of a needle.

One of the trainer's for a course said he had bad dysentry  from copping a mouthful from a waste water treatment site. He said he was in the bath for days with it coming out both ends. That image has stayed in my mind.

He recommended us carrying bottle of coke with us as another also took a mouthful but after having a load of pepsi he only had mild symptoms. I carry a backup bottle. It's better than double trouble shit sick🫣

Yeah.... uhhhh no. Fighting in Hockey has diminished greatly in the last 15 years or so, both though stringent new rules that have been implemented and newer, younger players smartening up and realizing that breaking your hand or jaw in fight puts you at a missive disadvantage lol. It's actually almost rare to see a fight in an NHL game nowadays. And I'm saying this as someone who watches A LOT of Hockey (and has played it a lot in my youth).

Things have changed since I last watched hockey then. I was ignorant to why the fighting was taking place in the first place.  Its a sort of rough justice as far as I can tell. Your right the fights are way down in total  numbers now. Most teams are not having the line of enforcers players in there's team but having more players likely to score.  Even the old school enforcers are saying it's not a thing so much for the junior players coming through. They claim it's finished but unless the rules are changed I cant quite believe fighting will just stop at all  hockey matches. It's surprising though as I assumed it would not change. I stand corrected that fighting takes place much less👍

Also now I know why when they fought all that gear would be lobbed away out the way. I did wonder about that. Now I know it's to do with making it a fairly fair fight.

Out of interest what's your team. Winnipeg/ Montreal/ Toronto?

Isn't ice hockey just an excuse for 20 odd blokes to go out beat the shit out of each other? There is no game is there?

The hockey players are skilled skaters almost balletic I reckon with all those stops and backwards skating and yes they do spend most of the match having fights from what I've seen. It's almost become an expected thing to have these well it was when I last watched a game a few years ago. I've seen a couple of live NHL games which was cool including the Anaheim ducks on there  title winning season. I expected them to suck but actually they were excellent. I spoke briefly to one of there players before the game which was cool. The massive bag with the pads was a giveaway ☺️more padding than rugby

When we went to see Midnight Oil my son pointed out that my speaking voice is very similar to Peter Garrett's. Pete has the accent of a Sydney boy who went to a private school then took up rock and roll. I have the accent of a Westie who got an education...

As for the sherbets, doctors are culturally heavy drinkers here, but even more so in England I discovered, but I am older and wiser now.

That's cool you got a good education. My grandmother had no money but got a degree through nightschool at the London school of economics. It was free for employees. She worked in the day and studied at night. All worked out as she became a solicitor.

Is there anyone who is fortunately dead? :)

I test everything that I don't have a intimate knowledge of. Even after 20 years of living in this house, a house I helped build, I still take nothing for granted with mains power. I'll install a new power point, lights, fans anything I can get away with that doesn't need to be certified, but I'll never start a job without first testing things.  Most of the work I've been doing lately though is 12 volts.

I'm running my own solar panels which power lights, phone chargers, game chargers, batteries, pretty much anything up to 12v, so the risk of zapping myself with anything dangerous isn't that high. However I am running nearly 1500 watts of panels here now so I do have a combined mass of about 80-100 Amp running through the system and that kind of amperage is enough to do serious damage, so I do still pay attention to what I'm doing.

But I still make mistakes, hence blowing up the meter because I had the wrong leads on it. I've got several sets of leads good for 30A but for some reason I grabbed the ones that would be flat out being good for 10A and didn't even think twice. Maybe it was a subconscious thought and my brain wanted me to buy a new meter because it's been fun looking at new meters and seeing how well some of the cheaper Fleabay ones stand up against the so called professional Fluke meters and the like.

Ok snap my dad installs fans, power points, lights too. Anything too complicated and the sparky gets called. 12 volts ive been told it to low to worry about by people I work with

Last thing you want is to be hit by 100 Marshall amps 😉. Good plan with all that testing especially on the solar panels electrics.

What have you found with multimeters. Are the more expensive ones better because they do more functions.

  13. On 5/29/2022 at 6:50 AM, KillaKukumba said:

Hehe Whoops. I just blew up one of my multimeters while I was stuffing around with the new solar panel. Was a shitty cheap meter and it was out by about 9% on the voltage scale anyway, but apparently I shouldn't have tried to smack 25A down shitty cheap leads. It's probably only a fuse but given it's inaccuracy I'll probably bin it and buy a better one.

Good idea get an improved multimeter. I was talking to the maintenance guy at our church who largely fixes most things on site. I asked him what sort of electrical work he does as alot of people do bits of electrical work these days. He says he tests everything now after that one time when the label read dead for a cable and it wasn't. He cut through it and it Went bang.  he was happy to have survived that with no injuries other those t frazzled eye brows😆

I'm not paying that for any concert and especially not in a stadium.

I agree £100 or 200 Aussie dollars I'm not willing to pay for many many many bands. If Jim Morrison came back from the dead and the doors toured again with the classic lineup then sure I'd get £100 out for this. 😂 Scary thing is I've not been drinking tonight 🤣

My question to you and others is what band you'd like to see live who can't at moment because band members are unfortunately dead?

I certainly wouldn't want to handle asbestos on a regular basis, it's one thing to pull down an old building on my own property, or that of friends and family, but there is no way I'd volunteer to do it for just anyone. My brother has been involved with mines rescue, confined space operations and hazardous good handling for quite a few years now so we've got a constant reminder of how we are supposed to do things properly.

The annoying thing about our doctor/farmer friend dumping asbestos near the creek is that no one seems to care. It was reported the the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) about 10 years ago and they did SFA about it. So it's either more common than we know or the EPA can't be bothered prosecuting a doctor who fights to get employees their asbestos related entitlements and who has a wife on the local Landcare Group.

In my case it's a three hour drive (5 hours door to door by train), $150+ for most tickets, a nights accommodation, because I'm too lazy to drive country roads at night these days, and essentially 12-18 hours away from home. My wife and the cows probably wouldn't miss me for that time but I just don't think any band is worth that much. Even when Overkill played here in 2019 and it was $80 a ticket and diesel was half the price it is now I just didn't feel I was getting my money's worth for another concert. Others opinions will vary obviously, and that's fine for their situation, but I just don't see value in such events these days

I never Want to handle asbestos but recent example had me concerned the grass cutters will smash it up with there ride on mowers as they smash everything else up. This was incentive enough for me to tidy bits up. I've never done much more than neatly pile it up and segregate it and barrier it off until it's collected. It's part of the reason I gave up smoking,  we did asbestos awareness course and apparently smokers with asbestos in them have higher chance of developing a asbestos related disiese. Even my scientist wife agrees with this. Although asbestos can stay in some people as far as I'm aware and cause no issues but others die a painful death from it.

Thats annoying about the politics relating to the doctor who tips that asbestos in the ground close to that water supply. Youd have thought someone would at least look in to it and ask the doc a few uncomfortable questions if needed.

Concerts are cool especially when there close. Next one I go to is a 45 mins drive. It's easy drive too. Not too far from where I work. And tickets £25 so good value as far as I'm concerned. That's one advantage with seeing less popular bands. Lower prices. I looked at Mettalicas last tour and I saw the price and it put me off. £100 for seats in binoculars zone. Sure I can watch the screen but I could do that at home for alot less £££. Plus I'd have needed accommodation as it was west London where as north London I can do in a day on the train

I can't be bothered travelling 3 hours to a concert, I can't imagine having the inclination to travel half way around the world

Im of the same opinion. There was a good doom festival in London which is only an hour on the train. Sadly I'd just booked a gig and been to cinema Many times that month so I was not allowed to go. There's another doom festival in July but I'm not allowed to have a jolly up north while my wife looks after the kids. Some people 😉

Different rules for different states here but in some areas we are not even allowed to touch it, in the areas where we can it must be disposed of properly and tyvek suits with masks must be worn, or pros must be called in. We've got ads on TV reminding people to get any house over 20 years old checked by asbestos experts because it was such a widely used product until the late 90's.

We used to get a lot of people dumping it on building sites in the middle of the night because of the cost involved in removing it but it's not so bad these days. A farmer not far from here, who is also a doctor and often cited in the Mesothelioma workers claims against local employers who made workers handle asbestos actually dumps all his asbestos in a big hole down the back paddock 30 meters from the creek that locals rely on for water.

We've torn down a few old sheds and a dairy here that was 90% asbestos, but we tyveked up, made sure there was no dust and did it properly, it also cost us about $500 to dispose of. One time I hired a skip bin to do a huge clean up and threw out a heap of old cement sheeting, the guy who picked the bin up refused to take it at first because he claimed the cement sheeting was actually asbestos. I pointed out to the dickhead that it wasn't asbestos and the big green lettering painted on the back from the factory stating that it was 'asbestos free' meant he could take it with him. After about 30 minutes of bullshit discussion he said he'd take it but told me the 'asbestos free' label by the biggest producer of asbestos free cement sheeting in the country, lies to the government and still used asbestos after it was banned. I asked him if he also believed in Aliens anal probing him when no one else was around and he got shitty with me. :)

We've got same rule re not touching asbestos if you find it. Although when I dealt with it last time we were allowed to deal with it if we wear the suit and proper mask etc. I disposed all  PPE  in bags and sent to official asbestos place for disposal

Re getting asbestos surveys done. That's great idea for property over 20 years. There was some housing at work which we provide water services to and a few streets not long back got closed because they were covered in loose broken bits of asbestos. Not always easy to tell what asbestos is. We also have a big site we go to and vast majority of its buildings are not used because they contain asbestos.

Not asbestos label is not good enough for some people.

Good plan re creating a no dust  environment for asbestos. People from work handled some of it in from previous bwork and they try not to think about it as they were not wearing PPE and there was dust.b That breathing issue with it is bad. Not what anyone wants.

Don't sound like a good idea to dump asbestos in a deep hole not that far from the water supply. Too risky.

Your lucky you've not been anal probed by an alien. 😂 Ouch.

  18. I honestly don't know why people fly tip asbestos. I've tidied it up and barriered it off and reported it. Honestly they could have bagged it and binned it or recycle centre it if they was all proper. But no they just put it on some gravel near one of the underground water tanks at work. 😤 Some people

Very cool!  I'll check out Sisyphean this evening.  I don't like black metal as much, but if it's more of the atmospheric variety, I do enjoy it a lot more.  Thanks for the recommendation!

James t this album I think you'd like given some of other music you like. It's et moriemurs new one. It's Japanese themed one. It's called tamashii no Yama. It's mixes very well played atmospheric orchestral stuff with Japanese themes and metal. I like this alot.  Well worth a listen. It's the best album I've heard in months.

Ok re jamming I understand. I certainly do that more in the car these days and not so much at home. It makes journeys more interesting ☺️

Yeah good plan to listen to deathcore metal in waves. I listen to many styles of metal and I Do the same. I listen to different genres of metal depending how I am that day. If I've had a bad day put on the sad doomy stuff, thrash music if I'm bit energetic.

Ritchie was a legend, no other commentator I can remember had the effect on fans that Ritchie did. Murray was of course a legend but I don't remember hordes of fans dressing up like Murray and heading to a race the way they did for Ritchie. Ritchie was also a great bloke, always had time for the fans and enjoyed a guy like The Twelfth Man taking the piss out of him. (Not suggesting Murray wasn't a nice guy, I think he probably was but I never met the guy.)

Bill Lawry and Tony Greig as a tag team in the cricket commentary box were also unbeatable, the way they both seemed to disagree with each other while actually agreeing was brilliant and virtually unmatched. The biggest problem we had in this country was some of the more recent ex players as commentators. Adam Gilchrist was a good crickets but a terrible commentator. Mark Taylor was a good test cricketer but he dribbled so much shit in the box that his commentary was as boring as his ODI batting.

Yeah in UK there was always people with Ritchie b gear with the mask of course. It was surreal site. I kinda assumed it was just what the England fans did. Apparently Google tells me that iconic look was suggested by Kerry packer as a way to stand out. It sure worked and Google never lies 😉. It's cool Ritchie had time for the fans that certainly beats the rude ones. My cousin spoke to Mike gatting at Trent bridge once. I was too drunk to notice who he was talking too 😁. I hope my cousin didn't call him a barrel as that would not have gone down well. Although my cousin would probably have thought taking a hook from mike would have been good. 🥊

I used to use Darth Vader as a way to get the kid to behave. Especially if he acted up when we were out in the supermarket or somewhere I'd get my phone out and tell him "That's it, I'm calling Darth Vader. Let's see if he's got room and I can drop you off over there at his house on my way home and you can live with him from now on." That would make him start crying and begging "No, please, I want to stay with you!!" which some might think is mean, but I figured it was better than beating his ass. But he's a little older now and he's wised up to these kinds of tricks, he knows (or at least he's pretty sure) that Darth Vader is just a fictional character like Santa Claus. All I can do to him now when he misbehaves is take his two favorite things, Youtube and sugar away.

As far as swear words go...I got a call this afternoon from one of his teachers. Seems they had some kind of a writing assignment yesterday in phys ed class and my kid wrote "fuck you" on the paper in 'invisible' ink. Which would likely have gone unnoticed except he made a point to shine the blacklight on it for just a second as he handed it in, prompting the teacher to ask what it said. One thing led to another and then I found myself on the phone with this guy.

Now if you've read many of my posts you'll know I don't have any problems at all with swearing or foul language, I enjoy salty language. But still the kid needs to understand that it's perfectly natural to use that kind of language with his little school friends on the playground or whatever, but he can't say it to the grown-ups at school or certainly he should not be writing these words on the papers he's handing in to the teachers. Sounds like testing boundaries to me, which is normal at his age I guess. But still I felt like I had to sound sufficiently concerned on the phone with this guy when honestly I was just glad he had spelled the words correctly. He's lost his Youtube privileges through the weekend which has made him quite upset. I think that'll probably be enough to get the point across. There's a time and a place for the F-bomb.

That's a good one with Darth Vader. If I used that one my son would probably want to be his apprentice.

With swear words. I was just surprised he knows about them as he's only in first year at school. Your right dropping the f bomb all the time i don't agree with. With his friends why not but with Grandma is not so good. It's funny re what your kid wrote on the paper. Very cheeky but not so good to his teacher. That's the kind of thing my sister and her best friend did all the time at primary school. There teacher was not happy. No amount of groundings or other things worked as my sister is very determined. However Theygot split up for middle school 🏫which worked

That's a good idea re no you tube for a whole weekend. It's bit extreme but for something a bit naughty it's worth a go.

Sugar items are only for after dinner in my house. It's generally amazingly effective  especially if the other one is tucking into some haribo .  We tried giving them sweets first. Disaster. They filled up on sugar and would not eat much after and getting them to sleep was a challenge😞
