    I miss Pete...
Type O Negative were such a unique & interesting band to listen to...
October Rust still gets a regular spin in this house to this day.

Grievous given a Damn from blaaacdoommmmfan in Candlemass
Well...I have to admit I have an interesting (but incredibly short) history with Candlemass...and that is...well...
I've only heard two of their albums...Epicus Doomicus Metallicus & their latest The Door To Doom. I have not heard anything else in between the two albums. The truth of the matter is I only became interested in Candlemass as a band this year with the "hype" surrounding their most recent album.
Please forgive me for my ignorance...but I'm not here to lie to anyone.

Obsequiae ~ Aria of Vernal Tombs
After finding The Palms of Sorrowed Kings so interesting & refreshing I decided to track down the bands earlier albums to see if they held the same kind of creativity & "restrained{" energy. It appears they do...so I find I can do nothing but smile.

I frequent all the beaches on my island frequently, but maybe we can have a sand sculpture season each year. We will take turns hosting it.
I make a mean up-turned bucket castle. One bucket’s unfortunately my limit (unless it’s full of fermented coconut milk).
NP: Vltimas - ‘Something Wicked Marches In’
Strange title, paraphrasing Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ like that. Great album though. So good.

Thanks for the tip, i'll use those as my starting point. Guess if i like them enough i'll venture further into the Melvins discography. I seem to remember they also did an album with Jello Biafra which wasn't half bad.

Just some soft piano music, not in the mood for anything else right now.

My first pick for this would have to be Celtic Frost's Into The Pandemonium. Can't find a full stream of it on Youtube right now, but for me it's a classic case of the whole being more than the sum of its parts. Do I actually like their cover of "Mexican Radio"? Would I ever listen to the industrial interludes on their own? Are Tom Warrior's weird spoken vocal stylings any good at all? It kind of doesn't matter. The alchemy of the album as a whole is what makes it all work. Campy radio pop (albeit seen through a CF lens), moody gloom that borders on the Gothic, thrashy pummeling, and odd symphonic bits all smooshed together one after another... and that's just the first four songs. There's an almost theatrical, almost narrative quality that develops as it goes along. Picking the "good songs" off this album and ignoring the rest would be missing the forest for the trees. With that in mind, here's a track...

After a larger than life birthday weekend I’m now officially going to make the next three nights alcohol free.
Ah clean living. I’ve always been an advocate for it.

Adding to what FA offered I'd say perhaps you'll enjoy 'The Somberlain' by Dissection since you enjoyed Storm of the Light's Bane. 'Cruelty and the Beast' by Cradle of Filth as well if you want to hear the pinnacle of their melodic/symphonic black metal sound. Other then that I can't offer too much without seeing how you respond to FA's suggestions.

Obsequiae - The Palms Of Sorrowed Kings
Fall Of The Leafe - Evanescent, Everfading
Fen - "Nebula" (promo track)   ...sounds like Fen, which is great. Actually I bet @Grievous would like this track, you can find it on Bandcamp.

Some 90s classics might be a good place to start. I'm sure these have been mentioned in the thread, but to save you digging, here are a handful to get you going.
    Naglfar - Vittra

Sacramentum - Far Away From The Sun

Here's the opening track from Dawn's Slaughtersun (I have to be in the right mood for these guys, more repetitive and long-winded than some others, still great though)

Here's "Shadows Follow" from Rotting Christ's Triarchy Of The Lost Lovers. They moved away from playing black metal on this album, but it's my favorite of theirs. If you want to hear a less refined and more black-metally take on this sound, check out their previous two albums, Thy Mighty Contract and Non Serviam.

Ulver's debut Bergtatt isn't exactly "melodic black metal" but there's a good amount of melody and some black metal on it. This is one of my all time favorite albums, rough edges and all. Not to be missed.

Since you've been into Obsequiae you may enjoy this obscure Finnish band, Fall Of The Leafe. Here's a track from their album Evanescent, Everfading, which was apparently a big influence on Obsequiae when they were starting up.

Depending on how you feel about any of these, I could probably recommend some more, let us know what you think about it all.

Grievous gave a Damn to Requiem in Paradise Lost
I don’t know, they’re rated pretty highly in metal circles.
I still can’t really get into ‘Medusa’, but ‘The Plague Within’ is an amazing album and I’d say that it’s definitely not talked about enough in the world of METAL!!!

The other local landlord tyrants from families ancient and terrible are gathering for a work dinner tonight. I’m having a pre-dinner pint.
Gotta love the work dinner. 10 or so colleagues all getting together to talk about work. I’m just going to talk about black metal and see how it pans out.

Tis true (belief), I did mention this is an AOTY contender. Like you in your late teens however, I may have ‘gone a little early’ in all the excitement. I am loving it though.

Grievous gave a Damn to Balor in Most offensive metal song?
I think that they changed their styles over time, but, then again, I am also not an avid listener of their music.
That being said, I tend to think of their music as more humorous than offensive.  The deliberate extremism in content, when blended with live performances that are downright hilarious, make their music appear to be an attempt to make fun of prevailing standards of both morality and music.
I never heard of that documentary before, and it sounds really interesting.  I will have to look and see if I can locate a copy/place to see it.
