  1. Re: Who is the best out the big 4??? I prefer Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, and then Slayer.
  2. Who else is a fan of Iron Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name"? The lyrics are EPIC! My all-time favorite from that song has to be the line: "As the guards march me out to the courtyard, somebody cries from a cell God be with you. If there's a God, then why does he let me go?". You can't get any more philosophical than that with Iron Maiden.
  3. Personally, I enjoy lyrics because they add another dimension to the song. Also, it's always nice to hear the story behind the music. I just feel like the purpose of the lyrics is just to pull you in more besides just the music...unless if the lyrics are crappy, then it's all music for me. The only bands I really focus on the lyrics are Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Megadeth, and Black Sabbath. To me, their lyrics actually means something.

Re: Books? I'm an avid reader...to an extent. I like fantasy books, my favorite being Rick Riodan's fantasy series like Percy Jackson and Magnus Chase. (I finished all of them and are now reading his new series: The Trials of Apollo). I like reading fantasy and mythology (which explains why I am a sucker for Power Metal), but I also enjoy science fiction (H.G. Wells), a little mystery (Sherlock Holmes), and I'm now trying to "expand my knowledge" by reading some classics (literature). Right now, I'm also waiting for the new book in the Trials of Apollo series coming out next fall. ?
  5. Lately, I had developed an interest in extreme metal (specifically Melodic Death Metal), and I was wondering what bands I should listen to. I started listening to Amon Amarth, Scar Symmetry, Dark Tranquility, and Children of Bodom. Any other suggestions of bands would be helpful-anything to expand this list. Thanks.
  6. I love NWOBHM. Many of the bands I listen to fall under this style. Iron Maiden, Saxon, Motörhead, and Def Leppard are my top picks. What's yours?
  7. Re: I love listening to Helloween, Gamma Ray, and Stratovarius. Right now I'm trying to listen to some DragonForce, Sonata Artica, and HammerFall. (DragonForce is a pretty epic band, especially their guitar style).
  8. Everyone knows that Hard Rock and Heavy Metal was born roughly around the same time. There are people in the world that associates them as synonyms of the same genre, while others try to get more "technical" between the two. I know many people will have many opinions on this subject matter, so I thought what the heck? Just to lay down the facts, I remember watching Metal Evolution by Sam Dunn and his interviews with Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath and Jon Lord of Deep Purple, who we associate with heavy metal. However, during the interviews, both Butler and Lord called their bands hard rock. Geezer himself dismissed the Heavy Metal label. Even Led Zeppelin, whom people has credited aiding the developement of heavy metal, prefers hard rock and dismisses the metal label. On the other hand, many hard rock bands such as AC/DC, KISS, Van Halen, Guns'n'Roses, and Alice Cooper have been associated one way or another with the heavy metal genre. Although AC/DC, KISS, and Van Halen have considered themselves Rock'N'Roll, their style alone is characteristic of heavy metal (e.g. AC/DC's Thunderstruck, and KISS's God of Thunder). Many of the popular heavy metal bands (Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, Avanged Sevenfold, Rage Against the Machine, Dream Theater) draws inspiration both hard rock and heavy metal. Musically, both genres utilize many of the same techniques. Many people have even said that the line between them is blurred, which makes it easy for bands to cross between both genres-hence why some people tend to use them synonymously. So what's your opinion on the subject? Are they generally the same, or entirely different (technicalities)?
  9. Classical is my favorite music genre only second to metal. Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Wagner, Holst, the list just goes on and on. I love drawing comparisons between classical and metal, and I believe that they make the perfect musical pair! e.g. Metallica and the SFS, Deep Purple's Concerto for Group and Orchestra, and Yngwei Malmsteen.
  10. Two of the best (in my opinion) metal vocalists of all time. They both have immense range (though Rob may have a more massive range than Bruce's), possesses operatic vocals, and can belt out the most intense screams! Who do you think is the better singer? I personally like both of them, so my opinion doesn't count. What do say about the subject?
  11. Black Sabbath has been deemed by many bands as heavy metal itself. I love Sabbath despite whatever lineup (although I might disagree with the lineup with Ian Gillan, no offense, just a personal opinion). Their debut album and Paranoid really set the bar for heavy metal! Metal Legends-they'll always be the heavy metal band! Favorite Albums: • Paranoid • Masters of Reality • Sabbath Bloody Sabbath • Heaven and Hell • 13
