  1. I've been listening to Peste Noire a lot lately, some Marduk too. They played in my city a couple of days ago along with Jinjer and a couple of other bands. Needless to say, there was no competition. They played some their newest songs and a couple of ones from Frontschwein too.

  2. Nice thread. I rarely play videogames nowadays, but it has more to do with my lack of interest rather than a lack of free time. I’ve always loved Resident Evil 4, spent most of my childhood with it. Fallout is another great saga, but I didn’t like the last two titles at all.

  3. Today I dropped out of university. It seemed like the best thing to do. 90% of what I learned in life was thanks to self-teaching, anyway. I couldn’t really stand the “holier-than-thou” vibe most teachers and colleagues had, in addition to the overpriced textbooks and my generally low interest to the academic study approach. I’ll now take stock of my situation.

How is this?  I have one of their other albums, but never checked out any of their others.

It’s my favorite after “Ego Dominus Tuus”. I also feel like it was an improvement over “Death and The Black Work” and “Apocalypse Sun”. It might even be their best, honestly.

    Mgla - 'Exercises in Futility'

I've known about this band for a while now, and I've seen people post about them, but why has no one grabbed me by the collar and slapped my face a few times to get me to listen to them. Holy hell this is amazing.

I like their simplistic yet effective approach. Not overly atmospheric and I really enjoy the riffs.

  6. Much like FA, I’m not particularly moved by their music. I like the idea of slavonic chants but the music itself just seems too redundant to me. It’s the problem I have with most atmospheric black metal really. Feels more like a soundtrack rather than a progression of songs.

If I had to choose tho, Krzysztof’s OG “version” is much better.

I had the same impressions when I listened to it, but was more wondering whether you enjoyed it or not. I missed the density and complexity of some of their other stuff, but I also found several cool moments to hang my hat on.

I feel the same about the “density” part, but overall they didn’t disappoint with this album, I really liked it. Some of my standout tracks are probably 1523, The Fires of Frustration,  Renegade Ashes and Standing on the Work of Slaves. One thing I noticed through years  is DsO’s poor dynamic range. “Furnaces”, on the other hand, seems to be much better in regards of this aspect.

  8. Pretty much the same list I would write years ago. It’s becoming increasingly hard for me to find bands that leave some kind of everlasting bond:

    1. Deathspell Omega - K/A: Paracletus

    2. Peste Noire - K/A: Ballade...

    3. Immolation - K/A: Close to a World Below

    4. Baise Ma Hache - K/A: Le Grand Suicide

    5. Grand Belial’s Key - K/A: Judeobeast Assassination

    6. Arghoslent - K/A: Hornets of the Pogrom

    7. Hypocrisy - K/A: Virus

    8. Goatmoon - K/A: Voitto Tai Valhalla

    9. Mgla: K/A: Groza

    10. Aosoth: K/A: The Inside Scriptures V

    11. Svartidaudi: K/A: Flesh Cathedral

    12. Ulcerate: K/A: Everything is Fire

    13. Dissection: K/A: Storm of the Light’s Bane

    14. Teitanblood: K/A: Seven Chalices

    15. The Chasm: K/A: Deathcult for eternity

    16. Drudkh: K/A: The Swan Road

    17. Diapsiquir: K/A: A.N.T.I

    18. Funeral Mist: K/A: Maranatha

    19. Clandestine Blaze: K/A: City of Slaughter

    20. Angelcorpse: K/A: The Inexorable

Nice. I heard some high praise for this over the weekend, and I'm finally getting to it now. What do you think?

It’s pretty straightforward compared to most of their works, but there are some breather episodes too. It’s also a lot more black metal than Synarchy or Drought. I think the teaser track/videoclip didn’t do much justice if compared to the rest of the album.

  10. Deathspell Omega - Ad Arma! Ad Arma!

This really made my day a whole lot better. Seems like a mix Paracletus’s dissonance and Synarchy’s aggressiveness. The track itself comes close to Epiklesis I. I’m wondering what people think about this!

Have they released the other two live, acoustic tracks yet?

I don’t think so. Militant Zone’s Youtube channel posted 2 live songs so far, and one of them was “Casse, Peches, Fractures et Traditions” (a street live in Kiev). But their are going to release an acoustic version of “Duel Angoisseus” and “Amour ne m’amoit ne je li” very soon.
