Yes. It fucking rules. It's one of my favorites of the year. I enjoy the echoes of classic early 90s Peaceville 3 material. I know I've said it elsewhere but I really think they benefit from their moments of comparative lightness on this, although I can understand why someone who's looking for a more "suffocating" or "aggressive" vibe might feel underwhelmed the first few go rounds. I liked Atra Mors and I don't think it's a massive departure, but everything on the new one feels more focused to me, and there are brilliant moments worth waiting for.

Exactly. I think it added more to the album than it ever could have taken away (the lightness). I've listened to it three times consecutively since I got it and holy shit I am hooked. My favorite remains to be Antithesis of Light but only because it was the first Evoken record I ever owned. Atra Mors was really good too. I don't know man, I have yet to hear anything boring from them.

  2. Can we talk about how killer the new album is? I just got it a few days ago and it was well worth the wait. I found it to be much more expressive than previous works. Although Ban is right, they don't really have a bad album.

Premium, but only when it comes up with the offer of 3 months for 0.99p, (yes seriously.) Theres a reason why I have had 4 accounts :D

Just converted that into USD just for shits and giggles and it came out to $1.27. Not bad.

I use Spotify almost on a daily basis (on my PC and iPad) and it works like a charm. Unlike mobile's version, it is much more reliable. You can actually choose which songs you want to listen and ads only pop up once in a while. Streaming quality is pretty good too, so no use buying the premium counterpart unless you are very selective about that. The only issue is perhaps the fact album dates/titles can get messy (eg: they swapped two Immolation songs from Unholy Cult). Also you can't find stuff like Grand Belial's Key, Peste Noire or Arghoslent, but that's another story.

This was my main complaint but if it still functions to where I can choose the song I wish to listen to on PC I may return to it.

  4. Venom is one of those bands that shaped my enjoyment of heavy music in general. That being said I am thoroughly disappointed in a good portion of their more recent work. Storm the Gates was overall bland, tasteless and devastatingly boring. Such a shame.

My ideal meal would be salmon with mac-n-cheese and my favorite drink to go with it would be a strawberry daiquri ( spelled wrong, oops!)

Salmon and Mac and cheese huh? That sounds like a decent combination I'm gonna have to give that a try. True to form I am indulging in some late night Mexican food when my wife gets home. Debating between fajitas or shrimp rancheros.

Took me a couple listens, The Red and the Black, Death or Glory and Empire Of The Clouds are the highlights for me.

I'm gonna give it another attempt when I get home from work this evening. I will report back whether or not it clicks.

It's ok but it's not a masterpiece like some people claim.

I bought it when it came out as I caught the buzz and felt like this was going to be something special, but gosh it's so damn long and doesn't have anywhere near as many great moments as it should. 'Empire of the Clouds' is easily the best song on the album, and 'The Red and the Black' is also really good, although again probably three minutes too long.

While I admire the organic sound of Bruce's vocals - and it's clear that there isn't a lot of studio trickery going on - I tend to find them a bit all over the place and even strained in parts. For a guy his age he's amazing, but if we're calling a spade a spade I'd say they aren't all that great to listen to.

Why they decided to make the album so long is anyone's guess.

I think that's the problem I'm having too. It seems to drag a little bit.  It's not that it's musically bad it just isn't striking the way piece of mind is for example. If that makes sense.

Thanks--Good Grief, 300 mg is a ton of caffeine, I would be flying if I had that much caffeine!! I hope that you have much success when you do finally decide to quit!! 8-]]]

I do fly lol. I work in a call center as a telephone banker and trust me it's needed. There is a reason they supply is with it. Thank you very much for the well wishes.

Rob just edges it out for me, Priest are my fave band with Maiden being my 3rd/4th (can't decide between them and Sabbath) and I believe Rob is just a better singer overall, no shade on Brucie, he's awesome, but his vocals these days haven't aged as well as Rob's, in Brave New World and Book Of Souls however he sounds pretty damn good imo.

I want to like Book of Souls so bad, and it seems like I should because it has a lot of great moments, but it just doesn't grab me.

Even though I buy 90% of my CDs online I do still love going into a store and perusing the shelves. It's becoming a much more limited activity these days unfortunately considering the closure of music stores, but it's still a pleasure I pursue regularly. The only problem is that the store that do still operate have a limited metal section that is, laughable for True Belief and me, make up mostly of Deep Purple albums...

Hopefully not just the newish one they put out without Blackmore that sounds like what I wrongly anticipated Priest's Reaper of Souls to sound like lol.

  10. I used to use spotify regularly until they changed the way it operated. Now I default to YouTube if I'm on the go or my record player if I am at home. I definitely enjoy the ritual of going to the record store and to me there is no substitute for vinyl. However, to keep on topic, no I do not currently use spotify.

I quit caffeine after I got out of the hospital this past summer and it was not fun for the first couple weeks...but, I stuck to it and I have far less jitters now that I quit..occasionally I might cheat and drink a coke or a cup of coffee, but, I do not do this often cause it was very hard to come off of it!! =-O

Good for you friend.  I unfortunately am still addicted to caffeine. My work started putting something called Bang energy drink in the cafeteria and it has about 300 mg of caffeine per can. Needless to say I am absolutely hooked on them and consume at least one up to two a day. I'll have to give quitting another try.

  12. Not sure if I need to do another one of these but it has been awhile so what the hell. Hello again, I still dig death, thrash, doom, black, and many other forms of metal. For those of you that remember me I did successfully tie the knot hence the hiatus. I look forward to resuming my lurking upon this forum. That is all. Carry on.

Homophobia was as common as calling a bundle of sticks by its proper name back then. I don't think it really does much to call out a man for what nearly everyone was guilty of in that era.

Yes but he was a known bigot in many other realms. I also have profound disgust for his cult and its current leader so youll have to forgive me but my opinion of Hubbard will always be low.

  14. Today I had homemade chicken soup. Tomorrow I am going to have mexican food again.
