Drudkh Blood in our Wells. This artwork, a painting by Vasily Perov, made me buy the album without knowing who Drudkh were. I love the desperation of it and how complements the music perfectly.

Attention YouTube posters!
We must say this about a million times a year but still we get YouTube videos posted incorrectly or labelled incorrectly/half-labelled.
When posting YouTube links simply copy and paste the link from YouTube straight into your post and hit return.  No need to paste it using the link button on the post toolbar. When you post a YouTube video you must label both the Artist and the Album/EP/Single/Demo title.  This is so when these links inevitably break (because they get taken down off YouTube) the moderators can repair them by replacing with up to date links.  If you don’t label them we can’t fix them then your post gets deleted and recommendations are then meaningless.  We are less precious about this in the What Are You Listening To? thread because it is so busy in there we couldn’t possibly keep up, but everywhere else the YouTube videos get labelled or the post gets deleted. Thanks everyone, let’s keep MF a well labelled place people can come to find recommendations and pick up new bands to listen to.

MF has been around for a while and we have usually seen or heard a lot of topics that first time posters eagerly place on the board.  Contrary to popular belief, chances are that when you join a forum there are a lot of common threads already established.  The message is clear, look for threads before posting, especially in this section.  We won’t take kindly to the following types of posts in Questions & Answers:
Recommendation requests - this is just lazy posting and catered for already by the “stickied” recs threads in most of the genre sections “What’s the name of a song I heard 30 years ago, I don’t remember the title, the band or any of the band details generally but I believe the singer bought a blue t-shirt once….” - we are not memory a bank service, if you want help give us details, lots of them otherwise you just look ridiculous ”What do you think of this?” - we have a promotion section, please put your creations in there  “What are your favourite (insert list format here)?” - look in the genre sections, there’s a million Top Ten threads in their usually. Thanks for your co-operation.

I need to listen to this again.  I was really unimpressed with it when I heard it last, as, from what I can remember, there was not very many dynamics?  There was just a new reissue, I think, so maybe someone will post it online again.

Der Stürmer- "Europa Erwache!"
Used to think this was very basic, thoughtless black metal. Well, some of it is, but there is a great energy to this demo which Der Stürmer would replicate and perfect in future releases.

Keep it real. Make your underwear out of patches too. Tired of seeing all these posers wearing screenprinted band logo panties to shows like they're some kind of elite. If Manowar can wear bedazzled speedo codpieces with bits of real animals sewn on, the least we can do is show a bit more commitment.

It unfortunately is interesting subject matter @blaaacdoommmmfan just shows the morbid curiosity of humanity! Well..to some of us anyway. Yeh seems like most serial killers have fucked up childhoods. Same with arseholes who abuse their dogs and wonder why they go and attack people.  And yeh, it no way excuses their abhorrent crimes but just goes to show... I saw a docu years ago and they did tests on criminals pickled brains and i'm certain they came to some conclusion that the parts of the brain that computes lets say 'empathy' was particularly damaged even hardly existing. Fred West apparently had some sort of brain damage from a fall I remember reading. I'd be interested to find out about Bundy's background. I'm sure he said he had a good childhood in an interview, then again he was a narcissist so probs lied most of the time. Unbelievable to watch him in court. Sick delusional fucker.

Yeh Ramirez really did not have a good start, his cousin as you say was a sick fucker. A Vietnam war soldier who raped, tortured and murdered during the war and took pictures which he then showed to Ramirez at 12 years old. There was also documentation of his dad abusing him and tying him to a crucifix as punishment. 
 
Obviously cannot condone or sympathise with his crimes but you do get an understanding that he is a product of environment, all to often abused leads to abuser

i wouldnt know, im not really up on my black metal, which is why im here. ive watched a few videos about mayhem, they sound pretty dark, but im not too bothered, and to be honest i dont really know why. i mean, now i think about it, maybe i should be? ig its just a case of i like the music but not the people, to put it bluntly im not really fazed by it. but one thing i gotta say is that i am not a white supremacist, and ive seen those ideas and beliefs in many bands in metal (and genral music) before, but i do not agree with that stuff. ive studied black slavery before, and its just so messed up. but, if you do listen to that, i dont consider you a bad person, its your musical taste and i dont judge you at all for liking that, and i dont belive it makes you a certain type of person, either. 
 
P.S cheers for the list of foundational bands, as someone whos digging into black metal it helps. 🤘
