I truly hate not just one but two colors, green and pink.
According to trve black metal, this opinion is FALSE:

You need thick skin to be a metalhead. The world doesn't owe you understanding and everyone doesn't need to agree on everything all the time. We owe you common courtesy but not respect, that has to be earned.
Doubly true for metal communities online!

So I woke up today in a mood for some black metal that I hadn't heard before, and came across Lutomysl. After a cursory listen to a few of the tracks online I noticed that their Ecce Homo album has both a version with vocals (2018), and an instrumental version. I've already resolved to purchase that particular album, but I was wondering if anyone here can tell me why they released the same album twice? Was it due to negative feedback regarding the vocals, which are admiteddly very weak? Legal trouble with former band members, maybe? Which do you prefer?
Both versions are playable here: Music | Lutomysl (bandcamp.com)
According to their Facebook page, it seems that it was just because they found the instrumental version interesting!
QuoteThis day three years ago "Ecce Homo" album was released, so I decided to share its instrumental version. Maybe, it will show music from a different perspective.

Do not forget the first three Ulver albums (and demos)!

I don't buy music frequently enough to have an actual backlog (though some items have gone unlistened for a while due to current difficulties in playing certain forms of media). Books on the other hand...

Varg played bass for Mayhem briefly (as Count Grishnackh) when Necrobutcher had quit for a bit. But he wasn't on vocals and he wasn't with the band long enough to make it onto any of their albums. At least he's not credited
I thought he played bass on De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas? I remember reading somewhere that Euronymous' family wanted his contributions removed, but that they were eventually retained to ensure the album would have kvlt status.
Regarding the thread: My eternally unpopular metal opinion will probably always be that the albums with Maniac as the vocalist are the band's best---in large part due to the vocals.

I don't even know more than 2-3 of those bands... I am so out of touch with new metal now...

Give them to your son. It's way cooler to own these things than sell them!

Balor knows all😉good to hear from you. Ok didn't know that about the un named black metal kvlt musician embarrassing themselves years later. I still embarrass myself but at least I don't advocate burning buildings down. When one of the members of emperor apologized for the church burnings they once supported. I decided to get some of there albums which I've liked. I would have got them alot earlier but that stuff put me off. I remember reading articles from 1990s and thinking not for me. Politics and music for me don't mix.
Indeed, my knowledge is boundless! haha
Yeah, it was other drama that I will not bring here. The situation was pretty much a guy from the mid 1990s underground turning up after a few decades of nothing and then starting to argue with the few people that still talk about his music (for no reason). Not just "embarrassing" kvlt posturing, but actual stupidity/immaturity from someone who had received longstanding respect in some circles.

I think everyone is entitled to there view but I'm not necessarily going to agree with them. When gaal was asked about church burnings he said he agreed 100% with doing this and he wanted more of it. This kind of response just puts me off listening to his music. Chainsawkikimbo(think that's name) said on previous thread on this forum said all the burning of buildings puts him off listening to some black metal bands. I'm with him on that.
At least that stuff lives up to some (albeit stupid) "kvlt" status! I was thinking more of people who reemerge out of the past to embarrass themselves (as a certain underground musician did on a different forum I am on).

My experience on other forums has led me to believe that many black metal bands (especially older underground ones) should probably not join forums/give interviews.

Cool that your keeping busy even if on other forums. I'm doing ok really. Obviously the Ukraine situation is bit of an unknown and being in UK how will that affect me. Hopefully I won't be called up. Paintball is one thing. War is another.
Yeah it's amazing how it can just click. I played bloodlust live to the mechanic at work who is a keen musician. It was too full on for him. He also discounted the motorhead comparison which I mentioned as theres a similarity to my ears at least. As he said they had more of a tune to there music whilst venom were just more extreme in approach. Good to hear from you
Yeah, that is in the back of my head too. I can plan my year as much as I want, but I still had to sign up for selective service!

Balor how are you.
Venom I did not like initially. It sounded like motorhead music and I was expecting more. However after more plays and especially after watching there live stuff on YouTube. Got to say it's very very good. I reckon it takes metal on to a new level of extreme definitely and it definitely sounds fantastic when it works.
Nightmare I liked, welcome to hell of course, I love bloodlust track so thrashy and intense. Have you got a favourite venom era or album.
Doing alright, thanks! More active on some other forums now, but I still pop in every once in a while. You?
It was sort of like that with Venom for me too. When I was first getting into black metal, none of the first wave stuff really clicked with me. But then, just like you, I happened to watch some Venom live videos and loved what I heard. I haven't spend much time with the album material, though.

I'm not the biggest fan of Varg's "post-prison" albums. Some of his more ambient stuff is pretty cool, but I remember reading a review of Dauði Baldrs that was like "40 minutes of a crazed neo-nazi, church burning murderer playing a toy piano. It's only half as funny as it sounds."
Honestly I don't really disagree.
But the prison synth has to be distinguished from the post-prison stuff too. I actually like those dungeon synth albums...

Hey guys, what can you recommend as the single most extreme/brutal/aggressive/insane Black Metal song that you have heard? For me, this award goes to Pandemonic Hyperblast by Anaal Nathrakh. What do you guy recommend?
Anything by Reek of the Unzen Gas Fumes would fit that description.

Well glad to see we're back on track and that I wasn't alone with my suspicions.
Anyway, what have you guys got for USBM? It certainly seen a bit of growth very recently (the Lamp of Murmur types). A few I like and connect with, but it seems very hit or miss. I did a deep dive into the classics last year and while there is no distinct US sound, there's definitely a vibe to older USBM that I don't get from most of the newer projects which seem to clone the Scandinavian sound almost exclusively.
Standouts to me from my research:
Absu
Black Witchery
Demoncy
Profanatica
Weakling
Early Xasthur
Cobalt
Recluse
Some Nachmystium
Krieg
Judas Iscariot
Wind of the Black Mountains
I'm sure none of those would come as a surprise to anyone here. That said, I know there are other scenes now that are drastically different, but are there any newer bands putting out music in the same vein as those above and not just aping the European bands?
Or, are there other US bands putting out interesting music that may not fall in with the aforementioned but still don't sound like European stereotypes? There are some obvious ones (Panopticon, Wolves in the Throne Room), but deeper cuts we may not be aware of. I know it's not a deep field, but I'm sure you guys have favorites I can investigate.
Black Mass of Absu is another great USBM band that does not seem to get discussed nearly as much as they should. They sound totally unique - almost doom with BM vocals. Slow, heavy, and drenched in pitch-black sludge!

Are advent calendars not a thing in USA then goatmaster. You open a door for each day in December up to Christmas day. All the good ones have chocolate or better behind the door. One had whisky but it was very overpriced. Bit of rip off in my opinion.
They are for kids mostly. The advent calendar I bought was alot cheaper than buying the product in a selection box. I got twice as much
Advent calendars are definitely a thing in the US. I have one for my cats!

I have only began to listen to Venom this year, but I like a lot of it. "Don't Burn the Witch" and "Seven Gates of Hell" are current favorites.

Sounds like you need to get involved in the noise/industrial scenes.
