I will have to check this out (and I look forward to the next installments of this blog series). I have been trying to get into Finnish bm lately, and appreciate any recommendations.

I started to lose Drudkh around 'Blood in Our Wells' to be honest - around the time that Hate Forest was put to sleep and the guys merged some of the Hate Forest elements into the Drudkh sound, evolving Drudkh into a more complex entity. They really only became more popular after that, which is great for them, but for me their last album that really speaks to me personally was 'Autumn Aurora'. Gosh that's a great album. Still, we can't live in the past etc...
"Autumn Aurora" is easily the best of their full-length albums, in my mind - thought I liked "Blood in Our Wells" quite a bit as well. I think that they express their desire to explore the sound of early Drudkh in their other project Windswept. I wonder if they will abandon the project in favor of other ones in the near future. It would be a shame, though, as no other band was able to capture the romantic picture of a rural past as well as they could.

As much as I love Drudkh, I cannot help but be a little disappointed with their latest album. I still enjoyed it greatly. but to me it lacked the power of their earlier material. It feels like the culmination of their movement away from ambient and atmospheric black metal to a more straightforward sound.

Never heard that, sorry.
Its Drudkh's instrumental, acoustic album. I think it represents some of their best and most significant work. You should definitely check it out.

How does it compare to Drudkh's "Songs of Grief and Solitude"?

From the clips I have heard, I really like the guitar tone on this album - and the voice of the vocalist is great too. I will have to check out more of their work. Thanks for sharing.
