  1. I do really like this one. Especially as most "super groups" just churn out trite I was pretty knocked off my feet. One thing I can't figure out is who plays bass on the album. Kinda bugs me that it isn't listed. Blasphemer is credited with "Guitars" so maybe bass is being included under that umbrella.
  2. It'd have to be one hell of a disguise tho. Now that I've been Beetlejuiced back to the forum I guess I'll do a quick life update thingy. -I've finished my bachelors and am now doing my honours degree. -I've started working casually at the uni as a lab demonstrator (like a science teacher that only does experiments) -I did wind up joining that local band I was trying out for as lead guitar. My brother also manged to land the role of drummer. -I'm in a new relationship with someone arguably more metal than me (although she's not allowed to know that I think that could be remotely possible). Sorry for disappearing, I just kinda fell outta the habit of posting as I got more busy. I'll have to poke around again later, peoples sad projects need someone to tell them why they suck.

  4. It was a joke. Admittedly, not a great one.
  5. Thanks. I tend to buy more Australian stuff as that's the stuff I'm more likely to see, my list will probably become a little more balanced when I have more 2018 stuff as I currently only have around 20 releases from last year. Cancelled at the Tote as a couple of regulars were upset. https://killyourstereo.com/news/1088219/whoretopsy-have-gig-cancelled-because-of-their-lyrical-content/ Cancelled at Geelong (by the FUCKING COUNCIL no less) seemingly just to follow suit. https://www.facebook.com/Wtopsy/posts/announcement-we-have-been-banned-from-our-upcoming-show-this-friday-in-geelong-a/2021296184589196/ From what I gather their name might offend or annoy some of the "SJWs". To be fair, I think they had it first. You should give them a cut of the money you rake in posting here.
  6. 7.5/10 Liked the bass and some of the riffs were really cool but the solo section come of pretty cheesy.
  7. David. I like his playing style more, he's on more good albums, I greatly prefer Megadeth. Glen Benton or a Hoffman brother.
  8. I haven't listened to enough stuff but I'll have a go. Some of these opinions are pretty biased. 10 Snakes Pure Evil A fun and memorable groove act. Full of character not nearly as try-hard as most of the other entries on this list. Really catchy with some interesting songwriting ideas and structures thrown around. 9 Rivers Of Nihil Where Owls Know My Name Stands out among a lot of progressive death metal due to riff ideas and dynamics that often seem to remind me more of indy rock than any of the styles that progressive DM often borrow from. 8 Psycroptic As The Kingdom Drowns Some interesting twisted riffing ideas that are somehow simultaneously instantly catchy. Higher energy with more jerky and exiting song structures than their last release. 7 Inertia Tetroma It's rare for me to like a djent album so these guys were working against a pretty hefty handicap. Techy and occasionally sour this album has some ridiculous noody riffs and sounds that endeared it to me on first listening. Uapologetically jazzy for significant chunks. 6 Requiem And The Earth Grew Dark An Ararat (Victoria, Australia) band who have gotten exponentially better with each release their third album. Effortlessly combines the agression of high-speed death-thrash band metal with the some of the darkness of a blackmetal release. Clearly taking some inspiration from Aussie blackened prog metallers Hybrid Nightmares (alongside whom they performed in 2017) in this release the riffing and solos reach a new high while also showing enough restraint to let the vocals cement themselves in the listener's mind. As much as en enjoyed this album, I can't help but wonder how much better the next album is going to be. 5 Aborted TerrorVision Experimenting with more interesting time signatures and song segments than any other release of theirs I've heard, Aborted add tech to the list of death metal sub genres in which they flirt with without entirely surrendering to. 4 Whoretopsy Take My Breath Away Checking these guys out after hearing about their unfortunate censorship at a couple of venues (Cannibal Corpse effect in full swing, take THAT society!) I was amazed to hear how characterful a slam band could be. With an array of interesting riffs with an odd sense of melody and groove and song structures that evolve seamlessly; slams are used somewhat sparingly and to great effect, often emphasizing a critical point in one of the album's disgustingly beautiful stories. 3 Golgothan Remains Perverse Offerings to the Void Australian dissonant DM with high impact moments scattered throughout sour landscapes of sound. Ugly howling vocals and a warm, modest (but not forcibly so) production add to the album's charm. 2 Serocs The Phobos/Demos Suite Dissonant, aggressive, melodic, brutal. This murky album varies from bleeding arpeggios to high impact churning groove riffing to aggressive patches that rip your face off while keeping a sense of sophistication throughout the experience. 1 Hadal Maw Charlatan Was there ever a contest? With some almost linear song structures that pull you spiraling into a murky void and a rougher production, this EP is considerably less listener friendly than either of their previous efforts but somehow even more characterful and memorable.
  9. Check out the range at http://shop.metaldevastation.com/Gauntlets_c337.htm Or buy cheap bracers or gauntlets and cheap bag of like 100 spikes on eBay and do it yourself.
  10. JAZZ III MASTER RACE. I tend more towards the regular jazz IIIs than the XL ones though, especially for tremolo picking or sting jumping stuff.
  11. I've thought about doing something like this as a short project. Mainly to get into local Rackabilly shows on a technicality and upset the audience. Nice execution. First bandcamp supporter.
  12. Boring people can't tell the difference.
  13. Atheist and Illuminati are two that come to mind.
  14. Never really thought of myself as a slam guy. Looking forward to seeing these guys at blaze festival.
  15. Everything I was expecting last year that didn't happen. Not only do I feel hurt and betrayed but I also have a dark emptiness inside the size of several albums.
  16. Similar to FA. I mostly use digital files on my phone or laptop, purchased digitally or ripped.
  17. I honestly feel a bit of a cringe when I see people trying too hard to create an image but on the other hand I can't help but think that people are more likely to remember and talk about someone who looks ridiculous that someone who doesn't. Sometimes it seems to work like the musical equivalent of pea cocking. Think of a mediocre band with an over the top image that is ridiculously popular. Slipknot, Ghost, Mushroomhead, GWAR. Now think of a great underground band with a "let the music talk" attitude. I can't prove a causal link but it seems that sometimes the audience doesn't always put the music first.
  18. Maybe give these guys a try. https://blood-music.bandcamp.com/album/timelessness
  19. Sure. The subject is interesting and the video is well done, I just found the horror movie soundtrack and some of your dark phrasing choices to be pretty amusing. Have you looked into any research papers on things that influence music preference or on the effect that extreme metal has on it's listener? I've read some stuff suggesting that adult music taste is largely influenced by what we listen to during puberty. I've also read stuff saying that extreme metal often does induce a state of calm or happiness in extreme metal fans (this just came to mind for me when you said something along the lines of "this music could never bring peace or calm"). I could see if I could dig those articles up if you like. Are you thinking of making a part 2 any time soon? If so, I'm looking forward to it.
  20. This is one hell of a dramatic video. Did you make it?
  21. Cool. Make sure you keep us updated.
  22. Unfortunately I'm pretty busy over the next couple of weeks and getting home too far after midnight is pretty difficult for me. Also, I've already seen them this year and will likely see them at Blaze festival next year in Ballarat. The way lateness can accumulate with more bands can suck but having more bands on a roster does have its advantages. In my case, it makes it more worthwhile to travel from where I live to the towns with scenes. For the bands it increases the likelihood of their material being introduced to people who previously didn't know they existed. Plus, these kinds of pub gigs are often cheap enough to make it viable to only show up for the band or two that you want to see (although lateness could ruin this plan) and also often let you leave and return as you wish. During stuff with a variety of bands we usually leave during the sets of metalcore or pop punk bands. Nope. Good to hear. Sorry to hear that. Sounds interesting, will we get to hear it at some point? In unrelated news, I'm getting started on a summer research project with the Institute of Frontier Materials at Deakin.
  23. 3.5/10 Nothing wrong with it but not at all to my taste (don't really like the focus on vocals and choruses). Did tequila shots with these guys at Melted.
  24. Will

    Hey

At the moment I'm mostly a death metal guy. A few of my favorites bands are Deicide, Death, Hadal Maw, Atheist, Gorguts, Testament, Megadeth, Crypt and Type O Negative.
