  1. Each to his own I guess. I'm not trying to be an annoying and contrary arsehole every time you say something might be Nu-metal, but to me they seem more groove-metal/thrash/metalcore (depending on album or song).
  2. I'll upload what I have now to keep the flow going. The theme is "Malevolence Barely Contained". I set up a framework for a song designed for the addition of solos (whatever instrument) to try to draw in some of the guys from this forum (wishful thinking), it's in the key of C#Locrian/E Dorian (or D major or B minor) and is at 140bpm. It's designed for eight or four bar solos, but if anyone adds stuff, feel free to do whatever you want. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3Qig96mjFpaV1RmUTBRN1d2MEE The intro solo is one of mine re-purposed from a collab that didn't work out, the tone was pretty boring as he was going to reamp it, so I had some fun with mulab effects (church reverb!). The drone riff sounds worryingly familiar but I can't put my finger on a song it belongs to. Both the backing riffs are a little plain, buy I feel if they were more exiting or complicated, they would be distracting and take way more effort to solo over. I might add a little more in the way of intros/outros/alternations within riffs and another backing riff as well as actually recording rhythm guitar and stuff if I get some contributions, I might add more solos myself if I get bored. Over to you, salmonellapancake.
  3. I'd second this. Or Indestructible.
  4. Cool track, can hear a lot of passion and attitude in this track, which arguably are the key ingredients of this particular black metal style. Can see some of your bluesy and hard rock/psychedelic influences in the lead guitar break (cool tone on that by the way). Toms come in a little loud for my taste in some parts (like at around 1:50 it feels kinda hard to hear vocals and guitar). Nice amount of guitar noise, (string squeaks, pick clicks, etc.) enough to make the track feel real and rough without detracting from the music. If you don't mind me asking, what are the lyrics about (I'm normally not great at understanding higher screams, throw in some audio clipping and I have no idea whats going on), Satan stuff? Eagerly awaiting more material.
  5. I would probably say that The Sickness is the only Disturbed Nu metal album and that Believe is more hard rock/alternative metal. Weirdly enough, I think I got Believe for $9.99.
  6. Sorry for the delay, uni is going pretty crazy at the moment I'll see what I can post tonight.
  7. Welcome to the forum, I guess we've already met. It's not that often that people who show up in "Promote Your Band" come back after tying up their initial promotion. Look forward to seeing you around.
  8. This isn't fair, I haven't owned CDs for 15 years.
  9. The point about intervals is that, to me anyway, unclean vocals sound intrinsically aggressive and harsh sounding, mixing that with something happy sounding like certain passages from a major scale seems a little out of place. I would have no idea on improving vocal tone whatsoever, least of all that of clean vocals.
  10. Well, if we're going to cheat like that, I could say that I'm taking the "extended family" of Joe Satriani. Through his pupils alone, I would get Stevie Vai, Possesed, Exodus, Metallica and Testament (Joe himself and Testament would probably have made my list anyway). On top of this I would get the catalogs of the artists associated with G3 and Chickenfoot (Van Halen, Red Hot Chilli Peppers) and Dream Theater (spoken lyrics on Repentance). Among many other connections I could make through Satrianis countless other collaborations (I love Wikipedia) Plus as he has toured as lead guitar for Deep Purple, I would steal all of your connections.
  11. I like a few of theirs songs, they have a nice style but I get bored of them pretty quickly. Been going through and revisiting some old stuff to slow down my rampant CD buying Crypt- El Nino Gorguts- Obscura Fear Factory- Demanufacture
  12. Not bad, some cool stuff in there. I'm not that familiar with metalcore, but I don't think that too many major intervals, passages or arpeggios go that well with "unclean" metal vocals (which seems to be the case with your verse riff), the section before and after the breakdown are cool (nothing against your breakdown in particular, they're just not really my thing in general). Really like the pitch harmonic tone and, of course the jazzy high hat parts that pop up in parts as well as some of the double kick parts and groove/industrial-ish rhythm parts . Not a huge fan of the clean vocal tone. I'm guessing that aside from Slayer and Trivium you also like some Disturbed and maybe Lamb of God?
  13. Welcome, you'll find plenty of black and death metal fans like yourself here. Any favorite bands?
  14. Fair enough. I think that this game still does somewhat have benefit in that it will cause me to write stuff. It kind of has a similar benefit to putting a gun to my head and shouting "WRITE MUSIC", I'm probably not going to write any sort of Magnum Opus, but at least I'll come up with something rather than doing nothing but adding to the ever expanding mass of my waste paper basket until something takes my fancy. Thanks. Are we going to do another round, wait for possible others or chuck it in (up to you, I'm happy with whatever)?
  15. I put together a vague outline for a song with this theme in mind, tried to record but ultimately it was starting to take up too much time and even after I took a couple hours on about the first 10 seconds just to be ultimately unhappy with the tone. Not my best work (plus I feel a few of my riffs are really unoriginal) but here's what I've got (MIDI export). https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3Qig96mjFpaVFZvdXpwenpwekU The repetitive section near the end was going to be a solo. I think next round of this game, I'll just contribute something small but make sure it's good rather than trying to rush a song in a day .
  16. Fair enough. Probably won't make as much of a difference when people play it through speakers.
  17. Listened to eye of the storm. Nice melodies in there, cool vocal and lead guitar style. I think for a lot of the song the guitars are panned too far to either side, like one side has more lows and one more highs leaving the mix feeling unbalanced (this could be my headphones though). Listened to Waves of Neglect, similar mixing issues to the aforementioned track. Really liked the harmonies and the heaviness of the vocals in some parts along with the real sense of direction and momentum this song gains. Nice feeling in the lead guitar parts. Really liked the drumming in this song, the blast beat and various fills were pretty cool. Also listened to 45-08-06, not really my cup of tea.
  18. Welcome to the forum, love the name.
  19. There seems to be a weird absence of State of Euphoria in this thread. I love it and, of course, Among the Living.
  20. Pretty murky recording but I think I get the idea. For this game should the next person make something to add to your song (and if so what key(s)/chords are you using?) or make something different but based on the same theme? I hope I can scrape together some recording time on the weekend.
  21. Last thing I went to was Golden Plains music festival (not small not ridiculously huge, mostly indy stuff), I got free tickets there as first fire response crew but then could see bands when not on duty. The atmosphere was pretty good. My favorite bands there were The Damned and Orb (psychedelic/hard/doom) the later of which I managed to be up against the front rails for. I don't have much experience with really huge festivals.
  22. Was at home frantically typing assignments but my brother (pretty cool guy) saw some stuff for 50c at a market that seemed like me and picked them up. Armored Saint- Revelation Kreator- Cause for Conflict That makes sense. I need to find me a shirt with a grey silhouette on it.
  23. That too. Which reminds me...
