Interesting. I would say that if the idea of the Slayer shirt makes you nervous that you will be promoting Nazi style intolerance you had not ought to wear it. If you otherwise find Slayer does not put forward an agenda you are not in line with go for another shirt. I would not poo poo the idea that it's a reference to the Nazi symbol. but meant ironically. Alabaster, I think you under-annalize the connection. I'm imagining Slayer means it provocatively or ironically or some such, but I know nothing of their politics.

Try some of their older animals. I was just playing Ozma earlier, and my daughters were even getting into it.

Hmm. Having seen them live, and thinking about their influence on sludge and grunge, I'd have to disagree with you there, but that's not to say they have anything to offer you. For me it was more a matter of them clicking after I heard them at the right time and place.

I think that the biggest problem, by and large, is that genres are represented by the music media as extensions of the pop garbage acts that dumb down the sound of said genre until it's an almost unrecognizable pastiche of that genre's worst elements and pop dogshit. People think hip-hop sucks because they hear Lil Wayne on the radio, not A Tribe Called Quest. People think punk sucks because they hear Blink 182 on the radio, not Dead Kennedy's. People think heavy metal sucks because they hear Avenged Sevenfold on the radio, not Manilla Road. There is good stuff to be found in most every genre, but that's exactly the problem, you usually have to go and find it. Most music consumers are not music fans, that shallow easy to digest pap is what they want to hear, and since they're in the majority, that's what gets sold. Depth of music requires depth of thought and emotion to appreciate, and let's face it, most people just don't have what it takes to even make their own decisions, let alone analyze and decipher the thoughts and feelings of others through a sonic medium.

I have a real soft spot for Dokken, for one thing, and I own several Tesla CD's, recently I've been listening to an L. A. Gunns CD I bought about a month ago, and love the song Crystal Eyes. I just did glam stuff period, especially T-Rex. I think it's fun, even if it's soft commercial stuff. "What ever happened to fun?"

I don't get into a lot of what they've done, but there are a couple of albums I enjoy quite a bit. "A Senile Animal" is my favorite recording of theirs, and I also listen to "Bullhead". And they put on one of the best live shows I've seen, that fucking intense dual-drummer action was a physical assault.

Thank you all for the warm welcome
Yeah, I jumped into the deep end with vader Technically it was Maximum the Hormones song "What's up?" That turned my intrest onto metal, but VADER solidified it. I suppose Rock is the most verried genre, because Heavy Metal could be classified as a off shoot of Rock. Only Rock could have Pat Boone and The Rolling Stones under the same Roof.
Yeah, my taste is drastically verried, I'm in a love affair with Rockabilly and all things 50's Rock'n'Roll and I've even delved into Hip-hop/Rap and Brit Pop - Thanks to the Gorillaz - recently.I could talk all day about almost any genre. I'll make sure to check Bolt Thrower out.
    I love them.

    Thank you

Welcome to the forum. It's interesting that Vader were your gateway band. Glad you're starting to appreciate the genre. Personally I believe metal is the broadest of all music genres. Nothing else out there could contain bands like Iron Maiden, Dissection, Bathory, Blut Aus Nord, Dark Angel, Rammstein, My Dying Bride, Helloween, Devin Townsend, Electric Wizard, and Suffocation under the one umbrella.

Re: Metal Vs. . . . . . everything else I like lots of music genres. When I was younger I had the mentality of "metal rules, F everything else" but now I can listen to everything from house music to indie pop and think that it's good. It came to a point where I felt like I was limiting myself when I didn't listen to stuff because "it's not metal!".

Re: Metal Vs. . . . . . everything else There was one point my life where almost everything I listened to was metal and hard rock. Now I can't do that. My tastes are too eclectic and there's way too much good music out there to be close-minded. So, metal + everything else = win. It isn't better or worse.

Been a while since I was in the mood for Deicide, but the first three albums are classic. "Once Upon The Cross" is the best produced and most accessible, so I'd recommend it as a starting point, but I prefer the chaos of "Legion" most of the time.

I listen to a little bit of everything including some nu-metal. And no, i dont care what anyone thinks about it. When it comes to metal in general there are some good bands and some bad ones, just depends on one's tastes.
