  1. Members of Metal Forum, WELCOME TO THE FORUM! We all know rules are boring, but ask yourselves, what's a tyrannical dictatorship without rules? Chaos. And that simply won't do, because we mods rule with an iron fist! Please speak English in these forums. Breaking the rules will result in a caution and thread-lock. Repeat offenses will be met with a permanent ban. You have been warned. Strict guidelines:- DO NOT post racist, sexist or homophobic remarks. DO NOT bully other users or make physical threats. DO NOT post links to or discuss illegal downloads. DO NOT disseminate other users' personal information. DO NOT post pornographic material (or anything that could be seen as such). DO NOT post spam. DO NOT advertise services or products for sale (unless given permission). General tips:- Be civil and polite to other users, even when you really disagree with them! Mutual respect is important. Do not create huge signatures with lines of images. It means more scrolling, and that's not fair on our poor mouse wheels and trackpads. If your sig is any bigger than the one on this post, it's too big. If your sig disappears, it was deleted for being too big. If you repost it, you'll annoy other users and the mods. This will result in an eSlap. If a thread is clearly going to be locked, don't spam it with remarks like "This thread is going to be locked". You're just bumping a crappy thread. If you're not sure where something should go, post it in General Chat. You aren't a moderator, and acting like one isn't cool. You can swear all you like, but targeting abuse at an individual will be treated as bullying. Try to keep Rick-rolling to a minimum. Make your thread titles relevant to the content. Search the forums before posting news articles to cut down on copypasta. If you want a thread to be stickied, include "Sticky please" in the title. If it doesn't get stickied, it isn't worthy. Deal with it. If you feel your thread is NSFW, warn people in the title. Think before you do anything illegal. We will work with the authorities for great justice. Generally being excessively crude, irritating or attempting to troll for lulz may get you banned at the discretion of the moderators. Respect their decisions, they are only enforcing the rules. You can appeal a ban, but we will be checking logs to assess your offence, so don't try to lie about it. If you have any issues or suggestions, there is a place for them here. If you have any questions about the forums, post them in this thread but please, read the FAQs first! -Metal Forum Team

  11. I have a hard time picturing our beloved Marky Mark in a heavy metal getup with a leather jacket and pair of Doc Martens. I never saw being a metalhead as a lifestyle. To me it just always meant I was passionate about heavy metal music in a world where so many people don't seem to care all that much about music, they just listen to whatever's on the radio. And apparently there even some people who claim they don't listen to music at all. Yeah, I had the long hair and leather jacket back in the 80's & 90's and I even wore the bullet belt and occasionally a spiked leather wristband to shows, but that's not what made me a metalhead. It was the fact that I loved metal so much and that so much of my free time was devoted to thinking about and listening to metal and going to see it played live whenever I could. And yeah nowadays it seems the D&D nerd militia have taken over certain factions of the metal world, but that really wasn't the case 40 years ago. But I think it's pretty easy to see at shows that metalheads come in all shapes and sizes, all ages, and from all walks of life. There is really no such thing as the quintessential metalhead anymore. Like the dude above me said, now that your average metalheads have gotten a bit older and many are balding or whatever and have regular adult jobs there are probably a lot more of us who just look like typical citizens and don't feel the need to look the central casting metalhead part. The only common theme I've noticed about metalheads on forums over the years is that most of us (not all sadly) seem to be of above average intelligence. But who knows, maybe there could be heaps of other metalhead dummies out there who are just too stupid to type and use a forum. Or maybe they simply aren't interested in having any interaction with fellow metal fans unless that means throwing 'bows in the pit. I do listen to some rough sounding stuff and I've made jokes about knuckledragging music but I'm no meathead dimwit knuckledragger, I'm just a regular old guy. Now that I think about it the black band t-shirts do seem to be a common theme as well, and sometimes I feel like I'm the only metalhead in town who doesn't feel the need to wear one of them every single fucking day at all times. I actually wear them more frequently in the winter for layering purposes, but as the bottom layer of 3 or 4 or 5 total you can never see them. Which defeats the purpose obviously, but they're usually on the thick side and so too hot to wear in the summer, and they're not warm enough to wear in the winter where I live without something over them or under them. And in between on those 27 days a year when it's not too hot and not too cold I do wear them sometimes, but some days I just want to wear regular clothes.

  12. Metal is just so much more diverse now. There's a much bigger nerd culture that gets into metal these days. But then again, metal always appealed to the outsider/outcast.

  13. Hey there - we've had a few discussions on this topic over the years, I'd suggest combing through the forum a bit if you want a wider range of material. Here's a thread: I got into metal when I was around 10 years old, 1990-ish. I think it was the sound and drama and energy that drew me in. I needed the aggression of it when I was a teenager. That's when I got into the more "extreme" stuff - death metal, thrash, black metal - and it helped me process and express all that teen angst. Still helps with that sometimes. I've been an avid listener ever since, it's not all I listen to but it's always there for me. It's also a big part of my creative life, both as a musician and a visual artist. The look of metal art was part of what made me want to study painting and do illustrations. I suppose it's woven so tightly into most aspects of my life that I have no idea who I'd be without it.

  14. Well, I haven't done one of these review things in a long ass-fucking time. However, I put on this tape today, and I thought to myself "there is no end to what I can say about this album". Lo and behold, here I am. So firstly, these guys are from Finland and they are NOT an NS band, despite the implication in the name and some song/album titles; all references to NS subject matter are done in respect to history, not some affiliation of theirs. That said, the band is made up of two deranged men-- Nekroführer (guitars, bass, vocals) and Nekrokommando (drums). Together, this duo is able to get quite the traditional Raw Black Metal sound going. We're talking absolutely inhuman shrieks, blistering early Darkthrone riffs, and blast beats upon blast beats. Not to mention the somewhat unique atmosphere and pathos they capture in their music. This pathos I speak of is absolute pain, desperation, hate, and sadness. As you can tell from the title, these guys like to talk about suicide, and their music goes hand in hand with the topic; it is crushing yet also heart-wrenching with its lightning-fast minor scale riffs typical of such Black Metal. I would highly recommend listening to the full album for first-time listeners, but for those who lack the time I suggest the songs "Suicide is Only Way" and "End of Disgusting Life". They truly capture the essence of this album in just a few pummeling minutes. I will end with the youtube link to the full album, cheers all. https://youtu.be/EPMnuJeAkfs
