    "Where I Live"

We get a lot of black ice here in the winter which sucks, but I can really live without the white stuff. I might have to wear gumboots in the winter but gumboots and shorts are a fashion statement and no one can tell me any different

    "Where I Live"

+25C is right around what's uncomfortable to me, I'm much happier closer to 20. Today it's -10C and it's kinda rough since our bodies haven't acclimatized yet (been fairly mild up until now, around 0C). Come january -10 will feel quite pleasant.

Cave In - Until Your Heart Stops - 1990s metallic hardcore. Never heard this before. Not bad!

    What Are You Listening To?

The art is spectacular. Maybe I want to like the music so I can justify buying the albums for the art work!

That's the way I feel about them too. Always great cover art, always well reviewed, then I listen for a bit and I remember why I don't like them - it's all the reasons you listed, plus they just suck.

    "Where I Live"

Most November rain in Canberra since records started. Finally a sunny day today and it is forecast to get to 23C. Woohoo! I am really looking forward to some hot dry weather though. Bring it on.

    True crime

Also, I have a personal hunch that there are a lot more people would could do what these serial killers do, but just never had the right set of circumstances to provoke the behavior. There are so few actual serial killers, statistically speaking, that it is no wonder that so many warning signs/contributing factors appear in each case. I would be interested to hear what your brother might have to contribute!

    True crime

Balor good to hear from you again. It's complex for sure. It's so interesting what you say about some sociopathic traits being useful for some very competitive jobs. My opinion is I can see thats very possible. There's definitely some jobs where that can help. Maybe there's no easy answer to it. Perhaps genetics plays a part, certainly a number of them did alot of alcohol and drugs which imo can't help things. Jeffrey Dahmer was kicked out of military for as far as I'm aware being totally drunk all the time. Environment plays a key role definitely. When you read the biographies of these guys you think that sort of stuff can't do you any good and perhaps explains why they do these terrible things. But there's alot of people who have terrible childhoods who don't do what they do. I will ask my brother as he's mental health consultant. Can't spell the word 😁

RICHARD STRAUSS - Salome. I watched a production of this at the movies today. The apotheosis of late romantic chromaticism. The orchestration often producing an overblown wash of sound rather like metal but without the drums. It was indeed the most metal opera I have heard and it was a bleak and bloody thing to look at as well.

  21. At The Gates - The Nightmare Of Being As a longtime fan who fell out with "Slaughter Of The Soul" after my teenage years and felt consistently let down since the reunion by their placeholder riffs, simplistic songwriting, and seeming lack of effort, this album is a real pleasure. Not a gamechanger, not "showing every other melodic death metal band on the planet how it's done" or any of the fanboy/marketing twaddle I've seen around, but finally something inventive and fun that takes advantage of its own strengths.

  22. Archgoat - Worship The Eternal Darkness (2021) This album is really good, as expected. They're definitely drifting away from their pure bestial black/war metal sound and incorporating more 2nd wave-ish elements, which is perfectly okay with me.
