  1. The wife and I went out on an actual date last night and saw a pianist named Jan Lisiecki performing several of Chopin's Nocturnes, his "Ballade no. 1 in G minor", and a few pieces by Mendelssohn including his "Variations Sérieuses". I'd forgotten how much impact the dynamic range of classical music could have in person. We were on the balcony about 20 feet from the top of the Steinway and it hit like hammers. Some real shredding in there too, holy crap. Now I'm sitting here listening to Brigitte Engerer's complete Chopin Nocturnes and wishing I'd learned to play piano.

  4. Bunch of is it death or is it thrash stuff from 1987. IMHO these are all thrash. Necrophagia- Season of the Dead, Ohio 1987. Hadn't heard this one, sounds a lot like Slaughter to me, but not as good. Slaughter - Strappado, Canadian thrash 1987 Blood Feast - Kill for Pleasure, 1987 Bayonne, NJ Possessed - The Eyes of Horror 1987 Necrovore - Divus De Mortuus Demo 1987, Texas

  6. The HD subscription is $7.99 /mo and features HD and 'ultra HD' streaming quality, which is lossless hifi blah blah and since its Amazon they do have a bazillion titles and artists you would not expect - including very obscure satanic goat black metal, etc. So it has really kept me from buying albums on BC that I am in the fence about. I haven't been on Spotify in ages. From what I understand the streaming quality isn't tops, but the Playlist features are good and algorithms for finding new music are popular I think. Amazon is an adjustment but they are catching up with their stations. And I'm pretty sure the selection and streaming quality is as good or better than others. And they have deep catalogues, surprisingly deep in metal. Btw I pulled Смирение (Humility) by Гробъ from your BC (not on Amazon, that one). Good stuff!

  7. Found a stack of CDs in the recesses of my CD rack dungeon from 2015 or so and throwing them into rotation-that would include Phobocosm (not really Neurosis influenced as I had though, but definitely atmospheric, moody doomy DM), Belekor Inquisition and Panopticon albums I've been posted recently. Yesterday -Sun of the Sleepless/To the Elements-black metal/goth atmospheric project-quite well done IMO and Khemis/Hunted-I could have done without this one, but I gave into the hype as I often do with the "popular" albums. Still not a bad listen for Doom lite or dare I say power doom. I've got DSO, Dark Tranquility, Foscor, Clutch, Craven Idol on tap....haven't heard these albums in few years. Chopin is rad. Ah yes, that old canard, is Neurosis a metal band. To me, absolutely, if not metal, I don't know what else they'd be. A quick search yielded progressive metal -avant-garde metal-which would not be my qualifiers. Some of their softer sounds like The Eye of Every Storm or A Sun that Never sets is debatable, but albums like Through Silver and Blood, Given to the Rising, Times of Grace sand Enemy of the Sun. OK, so post metal, but compared to say Isis or CUL, Neurosis to my mind defy and transcend the limitations of the post metal genre which of course they in large part created. More recent output, I'm tempted to call Americana metal or some shit-but definitely still too heavy to be anything else.
