Found a stack of CDs in the recesses of my CD rack dungeon from 2015 or so and throwing them into rotation-that would include Phobocosm (not really Neurosis influenced as I had though, but definitely atmospheric, moody doomy DM), Belekor Inquisition and Panopticon albums I've been posted recently. Yesterday -Sun of the Sleepless/To the Elements-black metal/goth atmospheric project-quite well done IMO and Khemis/Hunted-I could have done without this one, but I gave into the hype as I often do with the "popular" albums. Still not a bad listen for Doom lite or dare I say power doom.
I've got DSO, Dark Tranquility, Foscor, Clutch, Craven Idol on tap....haven't heard these albums in few years.
Chopin is rad.
Ah yes, that old canard, is Neurosis a metal band. To me, absolutely, if not metal, I don't know what else they'd be. A quick search yielded progressive metal -avant-garde metal-which would not be my qualifiers. Some of their softer sounds like The Eye of Every Storm or A Sun that Never sets is debatable, but albums like Through Silver and Blood, Given to the Rising, Times of Grace sand Enemy of the Sun. OK, so post metal, but compared to say Isis or CUL, Neurosis to my mind defy and transcend the limitations of the post metal genre which of course they in large part created. More recent output, I'm tempted to call Americana metal or some shit-but definitely still too heavy to be anything else.
