  1. That Witch Vomit is pretty banging. Dead Kennedys - Plastic Surgery Disasters The Pixies are great. My favorite song by them by far: Gigantic

  6. Mulatu Astatqe - Ethiopiques Vol. 4 ...basically perfect music for simmering in my own flesh on a hot-ass summer afternoon. Or what our Florida residents would probably call a "black winter day", these things being relative.

  9. Nostalgia trip: King Diamond - Fatal Portrait Just finished Them and Conspiracy. Bandcamp has all King Diamond albums for $10 each. I presume King must have the rights to the downloads so this is a good way to get money directly into his pocket rather than Roadrunner or Metal Blade. I have my eye on a few original KD LPs on eBay but can't decide if 30 squid (at least, many are 50 or more) is really worth it. Either way I don't have any digital copies of any KD albums except Voodoo because I had all (up until The Eye) on cassette! Hail to the King baby.

  11. Top of the Lake Top of the Lake: China Girl Couple of interesting shows, that I remember being a little sick and twisted. One Lane Bridge, murder mystery with psychic policeman, pretty normal murder mystery but the main character keeps seeing ghosts.

  14. That song is literally on sub-conscious metal radio in my brain all day, everyday it seems and occasionally the monkeys that run things up there turn it up and I have to do the same as you and play the whole record.

  15. I'd give this to Bruce any day over Rob. The solo work of Bruce is testament to him being superior in the sensible ideas section of this debate if not necessarily him always winning in the vocal range department (depending on when in their histories you want to benchmark - it does vary). Having recently visited the solo outputs of both it is clear that Halford's have usually been around mid-life crisis releases/collabs whereas Dickinson actually focussed on getting in decent musicians to aid his sound and bring his ideas to maturity. That having been said, I rate Di'anno over Dickinson in Maiden though purely because I felt Paul's vocals offered more dimension to that grittier edge of the early Maiden records.

    Books?

The films could have been one, without all the extra stuff they crammed in. I like them ok if I turn off my brain and just watch them as a Tolkien-related fantasy adventure mishmash. I wouldn't introduce someone to The Actual Hobbit through them. I recently reread Reamde, just to see if there was anything I missed that connected it to the Neal Stephenson Extended Universe, but I didn't pick up on anything... weird. Also a book called The Dragons Of Babel by Michael Swanwick, which was fun. Poking at fantasy novel tropes throughout. I wasn't sure exactly what it was pointing at until the end made me laugh out loud. Good times.
