  1. Hello guys and goats, I have been totally slammed and missed metal forum-ing, and mostly lost track of a lot of posts and releases and such. But I do have a few notables I have been spinning and want to share! (I can hear the collective "Thank Beelzebub!" go out across the cybersphere) *Disclaimer! I did not double check the true release for all of these - but according to BC they are 2021s. Sometimes a re-release will sneak its way in or contradict MA, and usually I am a stickler for accurate posting! ALSO - I did not search to see if these were posted already! I also attribute correctly as much as possible and if you posted any of these then good on ya, mate! Stress Angel - Bursting Church, Blackened death/thrash from Brooklyn that is not poseury and slays. Stress Angel - Bursting Church | Dying Victims Productions (bandcamp.com) Oxygen Destroyer - Sinister Monstrosities Spawned By the Unfathomable Ignorance of Humankind, blackened death/thrash from Seattle Sinister Monstrosities Spawned By the Unfathomable Ignorance of Humankind | Oxygen Destroyer (bandcamp.com) Bloodspawn - s/t, Filthy tomb metal, yes I just made that up. If you want to know what tomb metal is listen to this. St. Louis, USA. Bloodspawn | Bloodspawn | Dismal Fate Records (bandcamp.com) Гробъ - Смирение (Humility), Melodic black metal, one-man act from Bulgaria. One of the better releases you will find on More Hate prod. Смирение (Humility) | Гробъ | More Hate Productions (bandcamp.com) ReDimoni -On the Brink of Existence, Thrash from Spain, vocals are going to be hit or miss but overall this is a great EP with a lot of riffs and some leads and changes to chew on. On The Brink Of Existence | ReDimoni (bandcamp.com) Cultum Interitum - Veneration Of The New Dawn, Ok, finally some evil gnarly shit. Hypnotic, dark and menacing blackened death doom from Poland. Veneration Of The New Dawn | Cultum Interitum (bandcamp.com) Prieuré - La foi des bourreaux, French black metal that is fairly raw but slays with riffs, tempo and some melody La foi des bourreaux | Prieuré | Vetus Capra (bandcamp.com) Ondfødt - Norden, Finnish black. 1 promo track but this is wicked good stuff here. Norden | Ondfødt | Immortal Frost Productions CRESCENT - Carving the Fires of Akhet, Egyptian blackened melodic DM. Not going to lie I tend to like the whole Egyptian DM thing, even if these vocals are a bit off. Carving the Fires of Akhet | CRESCENT | LISTENABLE RECORDS (bandcamp.com) Amnessia Eterna - Malditos, Chilean thrash/heavy metal that is muy caliente! And polished! Great sound and feel to this promo track. Malditos | Amnessia Eterna (bandcamp.com) Venefixion - A Sigh From Below, French DM. Promo track slays. A Sigh From Below | Venefixion (bandcamp.com) Sjenovik - Dissolution of Innocence, tortured, defiant and pretty good black metal from...Phoenix? Dissolution of Innocence | Sjenovik | Aphotic Sonance (bandcamp.com) PANDEMIC OUTBREAK - Skulls Beneath the Cross, Polish DM that slays. One of my favorite straight DM releases so far! Skulls Beneath the Cross | PANDEMIC OUTBREAK | Awakening Records (bandcamp.com) Shapeless - He Who Whispers Across All Dimensions, Raw atmo-black from Australia that is worth a look if only for the sick af art. He Who Whispers Across All Dimensions | Shapeless (bandcamp.com) Gautam Buddha - Rebirth Part 1, Shout out to my man Navy, this one is Buddhist black metal/noise that honestly I like in theory more than the actual listening, but it is pretty cool. Rebirth Part 1 | Buddha (bandcamp.com) UNIVERSALLY ESTRANGED - Reared Up In Spectral Predation, DM debut from Texas, If you like the last Tomb Mold this is sorta like that with more bounce and some 'spacy' effects. Nice and trippy at times. Reared Up In Spectral Predation | UNIVERSALLY ESTRANGED | Blood Harvest (bandcamp.com) Dungeon Serpent - World of Sorrows, to Canada for some more slay-acious death thrash. World of Sorrows | Dungeon Serpent (bandcamp.com) Beastlor - Galaxies of Death, Fair bit of wankery at play here, Thatguy is probably all over this, but its actually pretty cool. Post black DM. USA. Galaxies of Death | Beastlor (bandcamp.com) Militaria - Remains With Pain, One man Aussie Thrash that kills the throwback vibe, but with an un-ironically serious theme. Remains With Pain | Militaria (bandcamp.com) Exaversum - To Live And Die With, One man Mexican black metal. To Live And Die With | Exaversum | Marwolaeth Records (bandcamp.com) Plague Lord - The Silent King, Aussie DM that blends three or so main styles all of which kick ass. The Silent King | Plague Lord | Iron Blood and Death Corporation (bandcamp.com) Ok, that's part 1

  4. I like speakers better but I wind up listening on headphones more and more lately. They're good when I'm out walking and more convenient when I'm working around the house and whatnot. And yeah, sometimes it's just so I can enjoy music without an argument. My wife is fine with most of what I play but my son can be a little prince about it and it's totally not worth the oxygen.

  10. For a brief summary of my more recent proclivities in metal music I would direct you to my 3 month old post on this thread dated April 25th which can be found on the last page, #62. I listen to predominantly black metal, as well as death and crusty hardcore tinged metal nowadays, maybe just a smidge of sludge and/or doom. If I listen to any thrash it's most likely been blackened. You know what they say, once you go black you never go back. I tend to forget just how young some of the people I post with actually are. My daughter was born in 1990. She unfortunately did not grow up to be a metalhead. I still love her regardless. Being a native New Yorker I first ran across Overkill playing in the NYC clubs back before their self titled EP came out in 1985. They quickly supplanted Metallica as my favorite band and remained my number 1 for many years. I harbored resentment for a long time that my Jersey boys received so little respect and acclaim compared to so many of those dime-a-dozen Bay Area thrash bands of that era that were so clearly inferior to them. Now in my twilight years I've gotten past such petty concerns. Not too hard considering I really don't listen to a whole lotta 80's thrash anymore. To each his own. Probably not too surprisingly, I haven't kept close tabs on Overkill's more recent output from the last decade. I've checked out these last four albums once or twice each on Youtube and have been fine leaving it at that. Whatever magic they once had that made me love them for so many years from the mid 80's to the mid 2000's is clearly gone now and they appear to me to be going through the motions at this point just to earn a living. And I'm ok with that as we all have rent to pay and such, but I'm ok letting them go as a current band, I don't pop a boner every time I hear on the wind they've got a new album coming out. I do still check in with some of the older albums from time to time for nostalgia purposes but there are plenty of other newer better bands to keep me busy day to day. I'm aware that many people consider Ironbound a great album and some kind of return to form but I'm not of that mind. I only liked 3 songs on that album, The title track, The Green & Black, and SRC. The rest was garbage as far as I'm concerned. Again, to each his own, live and let live, you do you. I'm just not familiar enough to comment on anything that they've released in the decade since then. My favorite Overkill albums in order are as follows: 1. Taking Over 2. Horrorscope 3. Feel the Fire 4. Killbox 13 5. Bloodletting 6. I Hear Black 7. Years of Decay 8. WFO 9. From the Underground and Below 10. Necroshine 11. Under the Influence Ride high! Ride tall! Overkill will never fall Full moon! Sharp sword! Satan is your Lord Midnight! Dark sky! Overkill will never die Blood bath! Die fast! Overkill the Devil's wrath

  11. There's a ton of great thrash coming out from newer bands these days! My top few "new wave" thrash bands would have to be Havok, Evile, Warbringer, and Angelus Apatrida. A few of the more obscure thrash bands that I enjoy quite a bit, too, are freaKings, Terrifier, Traitor, Alkoholizer, Total Annihilation, Battalion, Warfect, In Malice's Wake, Chemicide, Objector, and Reactory. I've got plenty more, too, if you're interested! Stay heavy! Yeah man, they're very consistent and reliable. Glad to hear you really dig these most recent 3 albums! If you haven't spun "Ironbound" or "The Electric Age" in awhile, I'd highly recommend going back to them if you have time. I find a couple of the 90's albums enjoyable as well, although they're more groove-oriented, like "W.F.O.", "From the Underground and Below" and "Necroshine". Stay heavy!

  12. Absolutely, my friend! I consider the "new era" of Overkill to date back to 2010's "Ironbound" up through the present day, which currently goes up through their 2019 release "The Wings of War". The reason why that's the timeline I use is because "Ironbound" is the album where they really went back purely to their thrash roots after a long period of time where they experimented with a more groove-oriented sound. If you haven't checked out "Ironbound", that would be a great place to start, although my absolute favorite album of theirs of all time is the one that came right after that, which is 2012's "The Electric Age". In addition to those 2 albums, a few others I'd suggest are "White Devil Armory" (2014), "The Grinding Wheel" (2017) and the aforementioned "The Wings of War" (2019). If you've already listened to some of those, I certainly have a few other recommendations (my apologies if I've only repeated albums you've already heard). Let me know what you think! Stay heavy, my friend! Great choices! "The Grinding Wheel" has quickly grown on me. I honestly wasn't particularly taken with it upon the first couple of listens. But man, it's really become a favorite of mine, to the point where I'd rank it in the top 10 of their discography. It's all good! Everyone has their own taste. I was born in 1990, so I didn't get a chance to hear Overkill in their younger years while they were in the midst of recording classics like "Feel the Fire", "Taking Over" or "The Years of Decay". I've never been really heavy into Motorhead, although I enjoy their stuff to a decent degree. Who have you been into in more recent years?

  14. Hey Hungalicious, what's shakin' bud? Sorry to hear you've been so slammed with work lately but I'm glad you were able to make time to stop by and post some new releases for us. A few of these have definitely been posted already, Humility, Cultum Interitum, Ondfodt, Crescent, Dungeon Serpent...but it might not all have been here on this, the appropriate thread. Have to admit I've gotten lazy of late and taken on the bad habit of just posting new stuff on the WAYLTN thread most of the time. But I reckon as long as it gets posted somewhere we're all good.

    What Are You Listening To?

This band gets mentioned so little, guess because it takes ages until they release new stuff every time. So ridiculously good. Sulphur Aeon - Swallowed by the Ocean's Tide

  16. 44. Monstrosity - Imperial Doom I just happened to be listening to this album while reading through the thread and see no reason why I shouldn't go ahead and give it praise now. Most Metal audiences know about Corpsegrinder and his many years fronting Cannibal Corpse, but before that, dwelling in the infamous Florida Death Metal Hell, he was raging in Monstrosity and their debut album, 'Imperial Doom' is one of the best to come from that legendary early 90s era. I first heard the tune 'Ceremonial Void' via the life-changing (for me) Nuclear Blast compilation, 'Death is Just the Beginning 2', and shortly after I tracked down the VHS comp of the same name, sans the 2 (not an easy task in those days, folks), and that had a short interview with Corpsegrinder and Mark Van Erp before launching into the video for 'Final Cremation'. The rest, as they say, is history. Such fine stuff. As time has flowed, this has grown into one of those important Metal albums I simply couldn't imagine not having. The songs are all total ragers and each member's performance is pure aggression! You can't fake the real thing. John Rubin's guitar work is the best Thrash and the best Death blending together. Just listen to those riffs, the attack. The solos sound like moments out of Horror or Sci-Fi cinema. Van Erp's bass guitar sounds like it's being punched repeatedly and asking for more. The insane drumming from Lee Harrison that is both loose and tight, and has better blast-beats than most Black Metal records. And of course, Mr. Fisher's vocals are that which actually sound like a psychotic demon - something lacking from oh so many "Metal" vocal performances. Of course, a great album benefits from a great cover and Dan Seagrave's offering here is #3 of my top three Seagrave covers. (I shall save what numbers one and two are for when I comment on those albums. Whether I post about them or someone else does, both will certainly be on this list.) As far as I have seen over time, this album remains sadly underrated. I cannot recommend it enough! Mandatory Death Metal!
