  1. oh- i wouldnt know, im not really up on my black metal, which is why im here. ive watched a few videos about mayhem, they sound pretty dark, but im not too bothered, and to be honest i dont really know why. i mean, now i think about it, maybe i should be? ig its just a case of i like the music but not the people, to put it bluntly im not really fazed by it. but one thing i gotta say is that i am not a white supremacist, and ive seen those ideas and beliefs in many bands in metal (and genral music) before, but i do not agree with that stuff. ive studied black slavery before, and its just so messed up. but, if you do listen to that, i dont consider you a bad person, its your musical taste and i dont judge you at all for liking that, and i dont belive it makes you a certain type of person, either. P.S cheers for the list of foundational bands, as someone whos digging into black metal it helps. 🤘

  2. I agree, Don't Break The Oath is a great album. But I can also get behind some of his solo stuff, and he tells a good story between Them and Conspiracy. Exodus - Bonded By Blood Dezperadoz - The Dawn Of Dying

  3. I think Utgard is great. It's up there with E as my favorite stuff they've done since Ruun. I found myself turned off by Herbrand Larsen's clean vocals more and more as time went on and I think at this point they're better with HÃ¥kon; I don't know if that's because of what he brings to the table or just different chemistry. I really miss Cato's drumming and tone but the new guy is a good fit. I don't think their more sprawling and expansive songwriting is always successful, but it works really well on this album. There's a lot of variety, each song has its own character, there's a sense of an overall "narrative" to the music, and the songs breathe a bit more than they did on E. I guess setting is also important - I didn't really click with Utgard until I took it out for a walk in the woods, and I gotta say it's a fucking perfect soundtrack. They meander, I meander; they turn a corner, I turn a corner. Enslaved has always been best listened to when I'm in motion anyway.

    Enslaved - Utgard

I've spent hours with Enslaved and definitely in a list of favorite metal bands, but Utgard was jus aight to me....enjoyable but not one of their best IMO.

    Enslaved - Utgard

Hey, we all start somewhere 😀 I've tried my hand at almost all eras of Enslaved and come to the realization that I just don't like them. They're boring, just like Sólstafir, no matter what genre they try their hand on. Fascinating how we can hear the same music and take away radically different things. This goes for FFDP as well 😉

  7. This is so weird... I know people exist out there that doesn't hear absolute trainwrecks when listening to Death Magnetic or Hardwired, but I just can't understand how that's possible. Both albums feels so incredibly tired and uninspired to me. There's riffs, but they're not those memorable, fun Hetfield mega-riffs that got stuck in your brain. These are more the kind that finds a hook, and then keeps hammering that one thing over and over til the horse is pulpy mush. Which brings me to the biggest problem: arrangement. Metallica do NOT know how to edit songs anymore. intro, verse, chorus, bridge, outro, they all either go on for too long, or seemingly stop before being fully developed. In every damn song! It's awful to listen to. It's not helped by the fact that every idea or riff or drum beat are seemingly recorded on the spot, they sound so damn unfinished, which is frankly inexcusable when you're talking about multimillionaires with their own studio and rehearsal and private chefs etc. Lastly, the lyrics since St. Anger has been awful and juvenile. Period. "My lifestyle determines my deathstyle"? Fuck of with that teenage bullshit!

  10. I'd say it holds up to some of their early output but not classics like The Legacy or my personal favourite, Low. The one modern Testament album that IMO actually blows a lot of their old output out of the water is Dark Roots Of Earth. Awesome album!

  15. Should TESTAMENT have been in the big 4 in stead of anthrax? I have always been less than impressed by their music. I think it should have been METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER , and TESTAMENT. It just sounds better.
